Well, its pretty obvious isn't it?

If the probe wails around planets with barnacles, then you can use it to trace back where the barnacles came from! (Even if they are unrelated to the UP story)

Soooo... If someone has an awful lot of time on their hands a UP and a resistant cargo hold then they are all set! (((-;

As someone pointed out, it looks like it wails around life, e.g. Earth, where there are no barnacles.

Concur, but there is little or no life that far out, so it shouldn't be that hard to figure out, just very, very tedious.

I'd recommend to someone crazy enough to try it - that is - to use a UPs life detection ability to try and team up with someone else with a UP. Get on out there, and locate the source of the barnacles. Pretty soon. Because we don't know how long we will have them for.
At each probable planet in a system you will have to drop the UP and listen to it...

I'm sure the canonn will provide free whiskey and biscuits.

Why would there be letters and numbers and a month (written in English, regardless of our multicultural player base) if the more obvious part of the message is restricted to dashes and bars. And regarding the faces: The human brain is conditioned to recognise faces, and often does so when there is no face. As Allant told you, it's paredoila.

Interesting. So I wonder if we can use the technology in the probe to modify our Detailed Surface Scanner to detect life on planets. Future Engineer mod? Is this the purpose of the probe?

And look...You don't have to do it forever...if we have a rough vector to follow, then that is a hell of a lot more than we have at the moment. One could go to the California nebula, one in the Pleiades and we could triangulate.

Would be a little ironic to use it as a testing ground since someone was doing some wild hypothesising in the previous thread and somehow came up with a PLANET in 73 Pi Tauri as the answer lol.
