Horizons What is your most wanted features for future updates?

For me it is simple. More things to do with friends. Multiplayer quests with a greater variety of objectives.

-Fly in formation.
-Quest sharing.
-Group jumping.
-Hire wing men (player/NPC).

QUEST variety.

-Defend outpost.
-Escort cargo transporters.
-Boss fights.
-Fighter support for HUGE npc capital ship battles.
-Scripted instance content. (Think wow dungeons in space)
-Air support for SRV`s.
-Planet base defense.

Here is an idea on being able to craft scripted quests. You know what the modding community did for Skyrim. Create a tool set meant to craft quests. The community will create the content. Create a separate launcher option to play scripted events through steam workshop. The best will be put into the game.

I think these are awesome ideas. Especially sharing quests with your wingmates has to be in.

I'd like a button to target new contacts. Freespace 2 had it. It would make sorting through the contacts in a res site easier.

So many very good ideas and suggestions above, I won't even bother trying to add to it. What I'd prefer to do with my post is let FDev know what the latest trajectories have done, the Engineers being a perfect example. So here goes. Forcing players to "keep up with the Joneses" through the RNG grindwall was just not the best idea, even on paper, but it's easy to see why the development wanted to go in that direction, as it would cause players to play more. But it's no fun. That's part of the problem.

The second part of the problem is that it caused player groups, e.g., just those who are friends, to stop playing together because everybody needed different materials and commodities and to get them had to go in different directions. Now I myself can't even get anybody to play because it literally became no fun almost overnight. As everybody is pointing out above, what EDH needs now more than anything is to make it fun for groups, and it really has to happen sooner than later. The fun part is of such paramount importance it can't be stressed enough.

And by the way, it's WAY fun to be able to mod your ship, and some way or another that has to be made to actually be fun, and I and everybody I know are perfectly willing to shell out Earth currency to do it. Introduce interior mods for Earth money and Frontier will make millions in a night. Do that, please.

I think some of the "Missions" need to be called "Jobs," since a trucker hauling milk is never on a "mission" but is on a "job." If you're being sent to assassinate someone, it's a "mission." People talk about quests. Nothing on these mission boards are "quests." We need quests. We also need "jobs, missions and quests" that can be accepted now by wings, without even needing the multicrew capability that is coming.

And since the update of July 30, RESs are a flatout joke, so much so I'm beginning to think FDev is trying to get us to stop going to them. In my eight months of playing I've never seen NPCs so weirdly docile. I can't seem to get FASs and FDLs at Master or below to even fire back, much less be tough. It's weird. Hope that changes, as RESs are always the fallback for something to do.

It's an incredible game, EDH, but it is blowing it in some ways, and those ways all have to do with forcing people to do things of which they're not in control. Make it a blast again and you'll kick some butt.

In the short term, I'm really looking forward to volcanism. That's assuming it comes with some great attendant gameplay. I really hope it's not just eye candy, there is so much that could be done with this. An example:

When I was a brat I used to read a comic called "Starblazer". It was like those Commando comic, only sci-fi; a different story every issue. This one story I always remember involved prospectors flying over volcanoes on an airless world. It was a special type of volcano that erupted jets of precious minerals from the lava lake at semi-predictable intervals. Their ships had scoops for collecting the emissions, and mining lasers that helped precipitate an eruption at the right moment to be collected. When their scanners showed a particularly large eruption was getting ready to vent, they'd all scramble towards it, lasers blazing, dodging lava bombs and boulders and ramming each other to be the closest to the geyser. There were pirates lurking around to try to steal big hauls, and IIRC a treasure map to a particularly lucrative, untapped volcanic world was a major plot Maguffin (read: explorers doing orbital scans to pinpoint valuable volcanoes).

It strikes me, looking back, that all this stuff in a mid-80s (?) comic seems like a startlingly good fit for the existing mechanics and gameplay of Elite: Dangerous. We sure could do with more interesting stuff happening on planetary surfaces, anyway.

1- A war against Thargoids (for once! stop teasing the inevitable!): Imagine all the crap that is going on in current space gone because of a massive invasion from them. That means, new enemy ships to fight and alien tech to craft or get (one can only dream at also buying some alien ships in the future from certain new illegal dealers...giving ideas hehe), massive chaos with the economy because of the war (black market also selling goods not just buying from us...great prices and great opportunities, special weapons, etc), a desperate union between factions ("a la" Mass Effect 3 to defeat the enemy, all against one common enemy), new threats everywhere, planets, bases, stations being invaded...etc.

2- Walking in first person mode (I want this so bad, if not for season 2 I'll quit): inside of the ship (hopefully re-modelled from inside entirely, not just the cockpit/bridge), on planets, if possible inside of some stations (most probably in the planets, they can make small "levels" by using not so huge buildings...massive stations like Coriolis are going to be difficult to model from inside with details, yet small outposts in space could be possible, similar to those current bases in Star Citizen BUT IN Elite Dangerous), getting out from the SRV (on planets) and ships in open space to search for things and look at our beloved ship with that perspective alone...(tears coming out...)

3- Landing/flying in other type of planets: of course those with atmosphere (not necessary those with life as Earth...water-worlds could be possible with just a layer of water and a decent cloud system), in those with volcanic/geiser activity (perhaps those are going to come soon), gas planets perhaps (pointless but cool at the same time...maybe Lando Calrissian is waiting in one of those floating stations, who knows [squeeeee]), etc. More lovely vistas to take pictures and maybe potential to include some cool gameplay mechanics related to physics with the flight systems and such. (races anyone?)

4- Flying in Wings with AI's: ability to hire commander NPC's to help us with trading, bounty hunting or going at war; that could be great (mostly for us "forever alone people"). Having some simple commands to give them (like defend/attack/arrow formation/break formation) could be enough. Also if we are going to have multi-crew...

5- Economic reward system per rank: I mean, why not? It takes a lot of time to be Elite, why not give us some good credits and/or a ship, weapon upgrades or something. And same for the rest ranks having in consideration how low or high those are of course. Imagine ranking up with Empire "You made it up to Elite, in regards to your hard work and commitment you'll be rewarded with this *insert whatever here*". (better than a lonely pop up message and a logo, right?)

6- Mobile real battles from Capital ships: yup, want to see those beasts moving around while fighting...also shooting not just ballistic ammunition and lasers, but some missile batteries doing its job as well, that could be incredible to watch. No need to say that it could be awesome to fly those as well...no no. [uhh] And land inside of them, walk inside of them...nah, another bad idea. [wacky]

The rest is going to come sooner or later, and some other great things that people want, could be possible as well. Crossing fingers...

A thousand times this! It'd even be a good start if they'd just add more action with SRVs around surface bases: NPC SRVs patrolling, going about their business, etc. It would give something of the feel of actually engaging with and exploring a real installation or settlement, and could even be achieved using the existing environments. SRV battles would surely be more exciting and challenging that fighting weakling skimmers and stationary turrets, and might even give those elements the support they need to be actually effective.

I understand itmight be a challenge, though, with having to develop a driving AI model that can handle driving and jumping and combat on any terrain and gravity combination.

I m new to ED and I have tried some exploration and Bounty hunting, also watched some videos for other activities.
I would say, I want to explore and very much like the idea of landing on planets.
So in short terms I would like to see more variety of stuff on the planets surfaces, something to explore on them, which will give you fair amount of credits. Currently I see no point of loosing time to lend while I can do some more jumps/scan(which also need some variety) by this time.

I get bored very fast by just jump/scan - jump/scan/fuel scoop..... and exploring something interesting on the surface will be huge improvement for the exploration..
Also I thing there should be more events in the deep space and it should be more dangerous...

1) been able to walk to your ship looking at your avatar on a spacestation launchpad like in the original elite dangerous trailer.
2) been able to walk around space stations and meet other players in the bar or on the space station or moon or planetary base.
3) some mapping of your face in realtime like snapchat so when you talk or give an expression your avatar does the same.
4) a real proper big storylines not people going off and creating their own fun cause they are bored.
5) Some proper dialog with missions like in fallout 4. you have to talk to people well NPCs and know what to say.

I do love this game and everyone I have showed my videos of playing it are in awe of it. "is that a real game? "yes its elite dangerous" "it looks amazing, wow like your in space"

ok have a safe trip cmdrs. I will be back playing it when it gets the next big update.

Better AA. Star Citizen (AKA Space model viewer) seems to have nailed this and it's something that could improve visuals across the board.

Just these 2 would be AWESOME. Some depth in missions would be a lot appreciated. I´m repeating a lot today in another post but I think ED needs more immersive mechanics like the Flight Control added recently, not more combat or action stuff like ships upgrades.

EVA for exploration of ship wreckage, hull repair, getting knocked about by the rotating section of a starport. I don't require walking yet. Just let me float. And weld broken stuff.

Yes!!!! Eva for ship hull repair and possibly other occasional ship maintenance gameplay. This could make ship integrity a little more meaningful and add another layer of gameplay for people taking long journeys outside of the bubble.

Persistence.

Not having it, damages the game experience in so many ways IMHO. Such as....

* A player pulls you into combat. You nail them, take 3 of their cargo pods and jump out. Their remaining pods should be available for others to plunder. But, the players ship, and its pods will be shortly pruned from the game.

* You defeat a ship in combat. Its hull floats in space, ready to be picked up and repaired or scavenged for resources. Except you cant do this, as the ship will disappear as soon as you jump out from the combat location. POOF, Anaconda hull gone.

* You discover a base / mine /crashed ship on a planet. It should then be available for all others to find. Post the coords, and others can find that same location.

* You arrange with a friend to drop 40 tons of gold, in a canyon on planet x as payment for their services. So you do. They go there, and the pods are gone.

Anyway, you get the gist.

To this end, a work colleague pointed out this new game sub-engine. Its called spacialOS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7RCFoY2d-k

Its goal is to allow for such persistence in shared environment games. So I guess lack of persistence is a thing, to the extent these guys have tackled it...

To expand on this. One of the things I really liked in Civilization is the phase of the game, where the whole map is black, and as you move around you discover hills and rivers, and resources, such as diamonds, gold, silver etc. Now ED features SPACE exploration, you can find solar systems, planets, moons, and these all persist. And on airless planets you can also explore, but.. everything you discover right now, apart from bases, and barnacles, are ALL ephemeral. Just think how much more fund exploration would be, if you could discover items, on planet surfaces, and those items persisted, and could even be rewarded for discovery!! Im thinking about, again, super large gold/copper/silver etc veins, nuggets. Large outcrops of diamond. Crashed ship hulls, ancient alien structures.

Lets have planets be blank, before we discover them, with procedural, and PERSISTENT locations to be discovered.

And a grappling line to play with various moving / rotating objects.

Hiring a novelist and writing a very good solo scenario would be interesting.

Be able to:
Land on unoccupied or sparsely occupied planets/moons with atmospheres.
Dock with Capital/Large ships. Why is there no super sized (freight, traveling markets, construction, etc...) ship traffic?
Use all resources & materials for either crafting items or building ships/structures.

More ships!!
Walk around planets/moons & stations.
Extra Terrestrial LIFE!!! (sentient & not)

My own little modular base, either hidden away on the surface or orbiting my secret moon. I want to have built it from parts I brought from a space station, and I want to store my bits and pieces (yes storage!)
