UAs, Barnacles and other mysteries Thread 8 - The Canonn

My thoughts on this are that the UAs are like an early warning system. They site in a shell around Merope and when they detect a ship they scan it and transmit its image back to Merope (hence, why they point at Merope).
The UPs however, wait for a ship to scan them first and then send it a message. My guess would be that they have been sent out from Merope (why they also align with it) in the direction that ships have been detected by the UAs, i.e. towards the bubble. If they are to be found free-floating I would assume they'd be somewhere on the Merope-facing side of the bubble.

Oh btw.

I did have a theory that they were orbiting somewhere in a radius around sol. If uas ate scanning ships add an early warning, ups could be scanning our home and reporting it back to Merope 5c. Maybe the image is stored from a scan of sol.

Sadly no dice looking in Sol or around in uncolonised systems.

Thinking about the Voyager probes. They serve two purposes, firstly they are going to specific locations to scan them for information and send it back to their creators (UPs looking to find the source of the ships that the UAs have detected?), and secondly they contain information about their creators for anyone who finds them (the main part of the image the UPs transmit to us when scanned?).

Ok, i have to say that. Cannons.. What you did in low orbit near Earth was.. incompetently, rashly, foolish, blindly and it was not science. What you did is big mistake.

I am calling Doctor, so he can call Shepard. To save us all, if it is not late yet..

The UP is OBVIOUSLY SCANNING sistems for some purpose and then transmitting all data to Merope. The UA was scanning our SHIPS for some purpose and then sending it to Merope. You just let UP scan the Cradle of Mankind and transmited all data to Merope.

So you call yourself scientists?

oh oh.. :/

hold on.. it was the feds doing this "science" all around the bubble!!!!!

In systems like ADR GW-W D1-52 that has no planets, it's always easy to find UA's. Mostly within 1000ls of the star. I usually get about 6 UA/hour there.

In systems with plenty of planets, you can search hours without seeing one.

That is my observation too. Others disagree.

Add: Although if there are plenty of landables, you will get DE0s

My usual hunting ground of <redacted> is a star-only system, but I'm lucky to get two in an hour. I sit at 75% speed going in and out from the star in an atom-like pattern and stick within 100 LS (as over 100LS puts you in deep space).

Hmm.

Maybe that's the issue? What's your techniques?

Also, huh... UPs are double-headed... is it dumb to think they could possibly be acting like a retransmission post between the UA's and Merope (Not that they necessarily have to be relaying the UA message...).

Hmmmmmm

Apologies for jumping in if this has already been dealt with...if the UP deteriorates in space and then explodes how can it function as a probe in space? also this would mean there are no freefloating UPs I would have thought. So its just a surface based probe?

Because the game mechanic is to decay jettisoned cargo. UA's do exactly the same thing, but the shell exists. All jettisoned cargo decays.

Just my opinion, but it's completely unrelated, and just an artefact of the game mechanics that isn't worth creating an exception for.

I also travel everywhere at 75% nowadays. I go out to about 500ls, sometimes more and flip back towards the star.
In my experience about 300ls is the most likely to spawn a UA. My average was about 4 per hour, but our numbers are so low, the real average could be anything, the best distance could be anything.

I think you may be in a to small volume. I usually go out to at least 600ls, before I turn. They spawn out to at least 1000ls in star only systems. I think that if you don't go into deep space, you are staying in the same USS zone the entire time.

About every third USS will be an UA.

I have a little trick I use. When I get a USS that is not an Anomaly, I still select it. I don't enter it. Just approach slowly. Often a 'twin USS' will spawn and chances are it's an UA.

I can't 100% confirm the 'twin USS' theory, but it works for me.

just throwing this out there

Ground rules...

with the Jaques Station being so far away and ..
1. being known as a tourist location
2. having a CG aimed aiming towards it staying there
3. It being in a nebula
4. EOL PROU AA-A being a black hole
5. EOL PROU AA-A being 142.66LY from Jaques Station

A. is it at all possible that we're looking at a black hole/worm hole scenario?
B. The Maia black hole being door number one
C. EOL PROU AA-A being door number two

the "key" spectrogram (picture by sound) is showing the following

1. top right = nearest black hole (worm hole) can send and/or receive
2. bottom left |-- and right --| is for orientation purposes
3. the centre of circle with horizontal/vertical lines is Sagittarius A*
4. the line from Sagittarius A* to the bottom right is the current location
5. the two lines coming from bottom left are showing direction to nearest nebula destination black holes/worm holes (with Sagittarius A* being the starting point).

i have followed these threads for a while and don't remember seeing anything along these lines so am merely putting it out there so to speak.

any one else think we may be looking at worm hole travel to curve the boredom of long-distance exploration (for the ones who don't like it anyway). I can't see how Jaques Station is a tourist attraction considering how far away it is. much better for the tourist to go through a worm hole, visit the station and be home again in a short amount time??

Love this idea. Hope its true....

Worth to emphasize that this is the same for all types of cargo canisters. Not UA and UP only.

Just an interesting observation on educating Ed last night I noticed the UP Ed dropped was labelled a canister by the ships scanner...I thought it a bit odd for an unknown item.

but...

ross 47, why ross 47 ?

can someone explain me the relation between that system and the UP please ?

Because, and don't quote me on this, I believe it's where the first one was found and a few more after that and, due to their rarity, it's best to focus on a system where we know the convoys might spawn, even though it's quite possible they will spawn in many other systems.

Because that's where people have continued to look since the initial find. I think that and the surrounding systems is just confirmation bias, since who would look somewhere for (up to) days or weeks when they know they've been found in certain systems. But, it would take someone getting a convoy far elsewhere to prove that. Won't be me, since I hate that mechanic.

EDIT: What WOLFx288 said :)

you probably misunderstood my question.

i mean... why ross 47, why the convoy appears there and in few other systems in that zone ?
there must be a reason. or it's totally a random choice ?

Nope, understood loud and clear.

It's simply because people aren't looking elsewhere. Why would you when there's confirmed evidence that it occurs in that system or those nearby.

I honestly don't think anyone has given enough effort grinding the RNG elsewhere yet.... UA convoys appeared to have no real reason for where they appeared, same with the medical transports in threat 2 signals. I don't think UP convoys are any different in that regard.

As Jmanis said, it more than likely is just confirmation bias, we found them there, so we keep looking there, the system itself might not be relevant at all.
