Horizons The engineers - Just say no

Just sold all the engineers crap i had, over time, collected in my cargo hold. Needed the space for more important things, like actual cargo. After finally buying horizons and finding out more about the engineers, i decided i dont want to play this kiddie easter egg hunt . I realize this my result in my not being able to compete in the game at some point, but there is always NMS and Star Citizen.

What competition is that. Most of the materials you can get in your day to day space activities. The commodoties are easy to get with missions. Just choose a recipe you want to do. When you get the stuff with having to actively look for it (it is possible), go get your upgrade.

I can't see any problems.

I did a 150 jump trip to find something or other an Engineer wants... meta-alloy? Not sure the scavenger hunt aspect is all that engaging.

Don't worry my friend. You'll get stuff you can use to upgrade your ship just by playingthr game. Yes for the higher upgrades you'll have to do some hunting, but for the most part I've been able to upgrade parts of my ships without too much effort. Especially since they nerfed the needed mats for some blueprints.

but there is always NMS and Star Citizen.

Actually there is No Man's Sky releasing next week, but really there is no Star Citizen. That "game" is a massive Ponzi scheme that still has so much funding that it will probably take until 2020 before it finally collapses financially, but you will never see a "feature complete" version of Star Citizen. They have spent most of their money and have less than 10% of the game features finished, much less the dozens of ships/cockpits/etc. they were supposed to be working on.

Hey there Dr. Sunshine,

You know those things in your hold are commodities...
You can just buy them when you need them.

There's no need to horde them unless you want to. I sell em as soon as I get em.

Until FD decides to ADD STORAGE!!!!

When you get a fully-engineered ship, you realise that all that running around was worth it.

Fully modded grade 5 A rated python is well worth it, Yes it sucks doing the grind, but it is no where as bad as it was, and it is optional.

Thats not entirely true. Six of the commodities are mission obtainable only. Nevertheless I still agree with your statement, there is absolutely no need to horde any commodities as even the mission only ones are fairly easy to obtain.

Modular Terminals are probably the only ones that are a pain when trying to unlock Qwent with 25 of them.

LMAO! So you got rid of cargo that leads to improvements and replaced it with cargo that does what? Earns you a very mediocre profit? Makes total sense [wacky]

Don't worry about competing in the game, unless you are a PvP-er. The Engineers Mods are not required for PvE. You can beat all NPCs in a standard ship though some NPCs are quite tough when they have Eng Mods (mostly Deadly and Elite ranked NPCs). I've never encountered an NPC with modded weapons since the first nerf. They appear to have mainly manoeuvrability enhancing mods and maybe capacitor mods.
.
Most posters seem to think you object to the grind wall to get the mods. I interpreted your post as objection against the Eng Mods themselves. Anyway... I don't like them because I think they are cartoonish and over the top (too many, too powerful). I have the uneasy feeling The Engineers was a rush job to hide the problems the dev team has to come up with new gameplay ideas that fit in the Elite lore.

Don't worry about these added grind features. Just play the game. :)

Fly safe

Indeed. It would be foolish to actually release Star Citizen as long as funding keeps pouring into "development". Stranger than fiction.

compete - how so?

besides non-consential pvp, i fail to see how engineer modifications have any effect on "competition" (if there is one).

Well they also improve your ability to cope with npcs and your speed and jumprange for trade.
So for a fact they also make you less competetive for BGS and Community Goals.

You won't be saying that when you're up against the thargoids!

Yup...Farm countless hours trying to gain the prerequisites and mats for rolls that are equally likely to screw you as be your friend, just so you can keep up with the NPC's. Real winning mechanic they have here....
