About how much does it cost to "buy" Rear Admiral now?

Hello!
I've been playing elite for a little over a year now but this is my first post on the forums. I stupidly missed out on federal ranking up pre-2.1 so I'm suffering now. I'm currently LT. Commander, and it seems like the "cost" of ranking up via donations scales up geometrically. I was not digilent in keeping track of cost for each rank, and I can't find this answer anywhere. Does anyone know how many credits it would take to go from LT Commander to rear admiral? Does anyone know how much you have to spend from rank 0 now?

Thank you in advance for any responses.

If your in a position where you wouldn't notice sneezing half a billion away then go for it....I'm doing it with empire.

A little tip...get 19 missions at whatever fed outpost/station your in....then refresh through MB until you get a good charity donation....accept it but font do it yet...then accept any other mission on the same screen...it will say it's full...at this point cash in the charity mission you took and then quickly accept a mission again...a server mission refresh mission message pops up as you go to hand in....bringing all the missions back including the charity one.
Rice and repeat.

Varies. The amount of reputation gain depends on how many missions you do. Expect an increase of anywhere between 1-2% for every mission you do. Meaning there is no set amount you can "pay" for the rank since donation missions aren't a set amount and can vary wildly between 20K and 700k.

Ultimately? I would guess somewhere in the billions.

I'm afraid I don't have that much to spend 😂 I have like 120 mil left and I've already spent around 130 mil. But thanks for the advice!

Billions for just the last three ranks? But for my last rank I spent like 50 mil only?

I don't think the amount of cash is directly proportional to the amount of progress anymore, so there isn't a fixed cost per rank. Two 50,000 credit missions work better than one 100,000 credit mission. So I think, for cheaper rank progression, take a whole bunch of tiny donations rather than just a few big ones.

This.

Just for some perspective, I just recorded my results for each mission (Currently at Chief Petty Officer):

$25k +1% rank increase
$50k +1% rank increase
$125k +1% rank increase
$200k +1% rank increase
$300k +1% rank increase
$450k +2% rank increase
$575k +2% rank increase
$750k +2% rank increase

Spent 23 mil ranking from Chief Petty Officer to Warrant Officer (Rank 5 to Rank 6 out of the potential 14 total ranks).

The only charity missions that i do are those that cost 50K and below, other than that i think it's just a waste of CR since you get the same amount of rank increase for higher amounts (450K donations or higher gives you 2% rank increase, too expesinve for me).

I'd rather stack up on courier and delivery missions that go the same system and/or station. This way you get rank and credits. A good place to do this is in Sothis/Ceos, they are just one jump away from each other (~9LY) and the stations are only about ~1000ls away from the arrival point. I did this for several hours and got my rank from Midshipman to CPO (so i can get the FAS) in no time at all :D

And while you're at Sothis/Ceos, might as well do some long range hauling for some cash injection

Here's how I did it, if you're interested.

went to duke in fehu a few weeks back. looking back the 5 ranks did cost ~50mil per rank.

i don't think they did all cost the same ammount, but the result is the same.

if you want to rank with donations bring cash. maybe wait for the next morai :)

Time and again I think that the simplest solution, rather than only rank-locking, is a sliding surcharge related to rank.

Zero rank, 100% surcharge of cost of vessel. Half way up the required rank, 50% surcharge.

...or some similar mech where the amount of money required roughly equates to the amount of time/effort required for the rank.

Hiding juicy missions behind 'rank' would still provide incentive for ranking-up?

tbh, the ships are not an issue for me as I doubt I'll ever get near enough money for the big ships any time soon, and besides, I enjoy docking at outposts too much to give that up!

I spent about 60mil just doing any old amounts at 17 draconis from 2% Post Commander to 68%. It also scales, eg 4 25k missions = 1% or 1 1mil cr = 1%. Its cheaper to take the smaller amounts but its takes an age. Some chap on reddit confirmed this.

Navy ranking in general is pain, progression is deliberately capped what ever way you look at it. Your best bet is to blend in different roles in getting different mission types done. So do some donations, some hauling, some smuggling some shooting things like that. Even if you have the credits spare burning through 300M in donations is not quick.

Also be on the look out for very rare materials as you are churning through missions, so when you get around to engineers you're not having to go off and find 10 exquisite focus crystals by going through another 500 missions.

+1 Donation missions just don't cut it, there are way too few now even at Tun. Ceos/Sothis is the way to go, do the data courier roundtrip (stack missions via relog for an additional boost, 20 is the limit) and there you are. As a side effect, you get engineer commodities of all kinds in no time, and don't forget to stack some biowaste long-haul missions on the way back to the bubble, even an AspX can make 25m on the return trip [noob]
