I always get annoyed when computer voices are female in video games, that kind of pandering to the lowest common denominator is so obnoxious.

Will there be an option to have a male voice for computer voicing?

But your ship's computer voice is always female, they should definitely put an option for that or a DLC pack, how expensive it is to record 10 minutes worth of male voice?

As you can pick your sex when playing ED (or at least I hope so else my reserved names are screwed!) it would be nice if your ships computer voice could be chosen also.

If it was going to happen I imagine it would be quite low on the list of things to do mind.

I understand what you're saying however many studies have been done in both the military and aviation, and male and female pilots respond better to a female voice providing alerts than to a male one.

Hence why Siri is predominantly female.

It's (sexistly / misogynistically called) 'Bitchin' Betty' in combat aircraft.

Personally, I can't stand male computer voices.

It used to be thought that people reacted better to female voices under stress (for example in a dogfight): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitching_Betty . Although that seems to have been proven false.

All I know is that my SO really hates the "Breathyness" of the female voice on our car GPS

Yeah, but also I was savagely beaten by my mother throughout my childhood so I get aversion to anything female.

It doesn't matter to me what gender the voice is as long as it isn't grating. Mr. Braben's could be a good option for the computer.

christ dude a bit early for this sort complaint isn't it

1) its an alpha, LOTS of things are not finished.
2) really playing the sexual discrimination card because of the ships voice? That is pretty petty imo. Are you one of the people who sent a tirade of hate against the dev who made the castle doctorine by any chance?

what exactly is titillating about the ships voice btw? I dont get that at all.
