Personal bases, Storage Garages

I've seen some cmdrs complaining about storage. (Ships, cargo, ect) So I had an idea. The galaxy is HUGE and now with Horizons you can land on a planet 1:1 scale. So there is plenty of room. Same as buying a ship, cmdrs can buy there very own base on a planet surface. Small in size with one docking port and base defenses. Possibly you could even buy items and they could be delivered by other cmdrs to your base. Like a Galaxy FedEx. In future updates when players can walk around ships and ports it would be cool to be able to walk around your own base also. Maybe have a separate SRV to take out onto the planet. Maybe these bases could also be like bat caves. You fly into a tunnel of some sort and the base is under ground.

Yep, this would be a good feature. I think it would be better if we constructed our bases using materials and commodities though (rather than buying them), maybe via a construction-focused SRV. Certain base modules could be directly purchasable then, such as defense weapons and power-supply modules etc.

I like the idea of storage because if you're doing a large mining run for a mission, it might take days, so carrying around half a mission worth of ore is a bad idea.I would lean more towards a mobile base, a large ship with storage capacity and defenses, so you can dock unload and leave anytime, of course it needs defended, so maybe an npc security force to keep it safe or jump away when needed.Nothing fancy maybe a big freighter. Oh, PS by freighter I mean a real one I don't count the ships here as a freighter, in every game I ever played a real freighter was large, slow and defended, but had a cargo capacity of 1000 or more sometime super freighters up to 10k, so the body size of an Anaconda with docking for smaller ships and a huge cargo area, and probably its own refinery.

This would be the real sandbox-crafting i was hoping for.
-mine the mats
-buy the mats
-deliver the mats
-build your base (planet surface/small asteroid in a belt/etc...)

+ reps reps reps

Having personal bases has been discussed many times.
Most would like to have them. I think it would be a good idea to have underground bases as I presume that it would lighten the load for the engine although I am not sure.
I would like these bases to be modular. We would have to buy different types of modules to create a functional base.
Possible modules: living quarters, command module, armoury, infirmary, atmosphere module, docking bay, storage, defense systems, etc, etc.
I think building a personal base would be an incredibly cool time sink and credit sink for the game and most people would love to create a place they can call home in this huge and hostile universe.

However I do not think a personal base can be a sole solution for module storage or engineer commodity storage for the following reasons:
Engineer commodity storage needs to be at the bases of the engineers, because when you want to upgrade a small vessel without cargo hold the goods need to be at the engineers base already. You need to be able to transport them there and then go fetch the ship without storage to be upgraded.
It would also be very inconvenient if we could only store modules at our base. We need the ability to store them strategically at any station, in an area in which we are active, because this is the biggest game universe ever created and to have to travel hundreds of ly because we want to swap a module would be a terrible mechanic.

having to travel hundreds of LY to get something from your base is why I mentioned a mobile base ship. Maybe costing 2 million for a smaller one, it docks 1 ship at a time with maybe 250 cargo capacity. It has light weapons in turrets or missiles depending on how you set it up. You could even fly it into a sector where you are going to do some work and hide it or take it mining with you. either way a small mobile base that can be wherever you need it to be and carry loads of materials until you need them, and with a size small enough not to cause any recessions from it..lol.

I'd like to second that motion. In regard to having storage, jobs could be created by movement of said property also. CMDR ** you have paid for movement of property to *** system. Said cargo shipment has arrived.
Thank you come again.

Just went through my mind...
Some commodities should be prohibited to store if we get this. Otherwise it would only take 2 or 3 days when one commander sells 1000 UA's instant for a bomb

I like the mobile idea. but not having my ship just floating out there in space. Maybe your base have an option to have 1 of the 2 or both or even have your ground base modular like someone said and also transportable. you pay a fee and it gets transported to whatever body you want.
