Quick question to people involved in the UA/UP/Barnacle mystery; Are any of you planning to side with the Empire or Federation in this small war for one of the systems in pleiades? Do you think one of them over the other should 'own' any of it? Or are you more likely to stay out and hope we can make breakthroughs on our own?

Well I reset m y save. (I already miss my 200m credits and king rank) but i might work my way up with the feds to get a corvette then help the war on the empire side.

We in Lab 69 are siding with Imperial Inquisition temporarily for this operation. They are promising to "FREE THE BARNACLES" for all of us, from the grip of the Federation!

I'm siding with the other species.
I'm giving up on the Pleiades, personally. I find nothing but broken barnacles there anyway, and no matter who wins the war there independent explorers and scientists will be muscled out. In in the Eagle nebula, heading for Jaques. Must be a reason the UAs dumped him there.
I'm torn between fighting for one human side or the other for more immediate developments. Wish there was a CG to fight on behalf of the barnacles. Turning in both Fed and Imp combat bonds to some secretive agency or something.
Canonn are hoping to establish a presence in the area to keep an eye on what the superwpowers are up to, and raise awareness of any wrongdoings. Fighting over who gets to pillage these creatures is barbaric and unsurpisingly human in nature.

I don't know if I would get involved. I consider myself loyal to the people of the Federation, but not the government. During my brief stint with powerplay, I was pledged to Winters. I stopped because I was fed up of being hostile with Alliance and Utopians, both of whom I sympathise with to some degree.
Winters has now spoken out against the current warring overtures, and I'm with her on this.
However, if it came down to it, I would side with the Feds.

I think the "globe" image from the UP is a nav beacon. I just got up close to one and they look very similar, with textured markings and antennae. Are there any known "closed" nav beacons?

I'm tempted to head out to Jacques and see what's what out there. I have an Anaconda with a large hold. Maybe I'll take some things he needs with me and then help build a bubble out there without the Feds and Empire's involvement.

Additional: Yeah, I'm decided. I'm leaving the bubble and heading out to Jacques. It doesn't feel safe to remain around the squabbling major factions when we have some potentially-dangerous uncertainties on the horizon. I think it is better to up and leave and associate myself with honest, hard-working expansionists. I have no ammo spare for aliens.
Additional 2: I still cannot shake the idea that Black Holes are important. Perhaps ECM now, too. Really wish I had my own UP but I wouldn't even know where to begin looking.

Seems to be no doppler effect on the broadcast, travelling towards the ship does not affect the image.
And no broadcast can be heard external to the ship.

So UP disables parts of the ship, ship's audio systems interpret what's being broadcast. There is actually nothing audible?

I took a recording external to the ship, another internal, spectrograghed with a view to diffing them.
I am no expert at this but it looked pretty fruitless in that I couldn't get it to show anything new.

When you say external do you mean debug camera?
Given that it is a 'debug' camera, I'm not 100% sure we should rely on it for any testing but I could be wrong.
Have you, or anyone you know, tried listening to it with an ECM module equipped and active on your ship?
Going pure RP here.
I personally will do everything I can (and will urge Dr Arc to advocate the same) to ensure that the Feds and Imps, or any human 'organisation', fail in any attempt to instigate conflict with any aliens.
If we are attacked first, then I'll be looking for a reason why. If we attack first, then I'll join any CZs on the side of the Aliens. Simple as.
