Hooray for the Eagle!

So, kitted up an Eagle for combat with pulse lasers and took it into the local High Intensity CZ.

What a hoot! She's actually so nimble that even with no pips to ENG I had trouble at times slowing her down to keep her on target. She did great, but in the end I made a bad decision and took on a Cobra III who was otherwise unoccupied. He turned on me took me out with rails or PAs while I was trying to high-tail it out of there.

Great time though. Heading back in. Here's a shot of us waiting on the platform for the next sortie...

Fun isn't it? I threw a few Suicideagle's together for CZ a while back. Loading them up with Torpedoes and upping the mass as much as possible. I'd wait on the fringes of a CZ waiting for a large ship to get to low hull, launch all 3 torpedoes, wait a second, then boost boost boost into them.

Fun times.

Speaking of Eagle glory stories:

The Place: Durius
The Date: December 2014
The Situation: Senator Patraeus has launched a military campaign against the system as part of debt collection measures. I and 2 other chaps I know are pootling in Eagles killing local forces for the glory of the empire.

A player python (pre-nerf) jumps in. We chase him out of the conflict zone. He comes back after repairing, and they bring anger in their heart, accusing us of being given 'ganking griefers'. We finally kill him with no casualties and minimal damage.

Good times.

Love it, a Kamikaze Eagle. I hope you shouted "Tora! Tora! Tora!" as you went in :)

As my avatar suggests I'm a big eagle fan myself, trying 2x rails + multicannon atm, with enhanced drives. Needs some tinkering with the PP right now, but it's doable. Plasma slugs help with ammo problems, but it is a bit fragile.

I love my Tea-Interceptor.

Soooo, anyone looking forward to the F63?

Not really as unless it gets some unique mechanics to make up for its limitations, you're survival time is going to be less than a unshielded type 6 at a trade CG (same with the Imp Fighter as well)

Even if it's just something simplistic like that gimbles/turrets can't track unless you're in a certain range, and you get a speed buff to make it on par with the i-Eagle.

How did you fit all that in on the PP - those 3A enhanced drives just take too much power for a reasonable load-out from what I can see, had to switch back to 3A and live with 50 m/s less boost ...

While I am looking forward to the microfighters I am holding my expectations back as I don't yet see how the will make the things useful (well, maybe good if they can land on outposts where the mothership can't. May also be of use in base assaults).

Wouldn't it be cool if you used ship launched fighters not just for fending off an attack, but to board an opposing ship? Aaaaahhh.... /dreams

I'd like to see The Interplanetary shuttle and lifter brought back for these sort of roles, ah but to dream.

Very nice!

The Eagle, especially the imperial version, is an awesome ship. Sometime i undust it, when back from a long exploration trip and floor the pedals for an hour or two... Fast canyon runs rock.

And actually, i really love, that the smaller ships now have more to offer as fast and agile fighters. In my opinion, this was really missing. And i have no problem with the fact, that small agile vessels, especially in a wing, proof great danger to larger vessels.

The much favored more-cash-more-better-everything concept in modern games is finally broken in Elite and thats good by all means. Ship purpose over other aspects is, what is pretty much missing from every other game. Ship pricing doesnt need to be balanced... It must make sense.

Love my unmodded, painted and bodykitted Eagle 'Blue Uncle'.
There is just so much fun to be had in a light weight combat ship.
Maybe I am a combat fighter pilot at heart, thinking 'bout trading on the commodities market can give me a headache ( hell just trying to plot a economical route during BB missions is a right royal pain in the butt for me ) .

Yes, actually. The Keelback should be fun.

Can you explain a little further why adding a single combat ineffective jolly boat to your uparmoured freighter will make it more fun? What mechanics are you expecting that'll improve its worth?

Note: I'm not knocking your viewpoint, I'm just curious why you think something that's going to be probably weaker than a sidewinder being spat put of a T6 with a few guns bolted onto it will be 'fun'.

I mean I could see the point with a support carrier type ship and mechanics to support it, but not so much the Keelback.

A little bit of this, a little bit of that keeps me happy. When I get tired of fighting, I find something else to do for a while.

Trading and running the mission board for supply missions gets a lot better if you use inara.cz. You can augment your missions with trading cargo. Makes it quite fun, IMO.

eagle + buckyball = :D

this little bird is so quick and has a sweet sound to boot,
hitting the back of a station to brake is not advised however.. ;)
