UAs, Barnacles and other mysteries Thread 8 - The Canonn

Hmm...just a random thought that just popped in my head, with the thoughts that 5c might be artificial, and the possibility of the Missing being involved: What if 5c is actually a Thargoid Mothership that's gone dormant, the barnacles are actually Thargoid combat ships growing on its surface, and the probes & artefacts are actually something created by one of the Missing colony ships after they passed through and interacted with a Thargoid diplomatic and/or combat unit? It would make some sense...the UAs all point at Merope in a 150ly bubble, almost like an early warning net. The UPs all point at 5c, which may be the threat the UAs are guarding. The sound picture is being referred to as a Key...so, is the map in that picture pointing at a particular location on 5c that, when you arrive and honk a UP, will cause something to open up or some event to trigger? As for the Missing...if we could just figure out where the UAs and UPs were broadcasting TO, maybe we'd find a Generation Ship out there, possibly melded with Thargoid tech, maybe even a mixed Tharg/Human society. Or is the location on 5c I'm postulating actually a crashed Generation Ship, or even a hangar that a Generation Ship was pulled into....*tinfoil intensifies*

maybe the tip-offs are glitched. or the alien ship they placed down a year ago has vanished in subsequent updates (just no-one from FD has realised/checked yet).

Michael, realise you're prob off at Gamescon, but can you get someone from FD to visit "the thing that can not be named" (in solo) to check it is still actually there? Just for our piece of mind

until we find "the easy place to get Probes" though, we can't check anything else, cos we have no probes. So speculation is kind of pointless at this point imo :(

I think that to some extent FD is guilty of making the GMing rookie mistake with mystery/investigation games :

chokepoints choking the progress. By going with an A -> B -> C -> D daisy chain, they have a built in potential chole point at each step.

If there where three different ways to solve each step, the chance of choking the investigation would be much lower, and the need to inject
clues and hints manualy to kick things up much lower.

A -> {A',A'',A'''} -> B is much more robust. (e.g. : find the UP spawning area 1) decode intel from audio 2) backtrack fed convoys 3) investigate nutters' rambling in local news and cryptic clues )

Hello Commanders. I am new to here and I have a question. As this threadname includes "other mysteries" I decided to try it here.
I a lonesome space cowboy, who made his lonely way to that interesting jacques station (i wonder if anyone of you is around here?). After a couple of days of mining for the community goal I started SRVing the systems landable planets/moons. Nothing interesting so far.
But I found something strange in the galaxy map. As I have not noticed that before I wanted to ask if this is considered a bug or if it might be possible that there is a kind of ghost star appearing in the direct neighbourhood of EOL PROU LW-L C8-197 B
I have recorded a short clip of my galaxy map issues. What do you think? Bug? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD6X0dDs0TY

No, I think that's because it's a binary. The gal map shows that (surprisingly). I'm not sure if it's a bug, but it happens on other systems as well.

Hmmm back to my original point UP has one head pointing at Merope UP has TWO heads ... One pointing at merope 5c .... Other Probably pointing out to UA shell. Hence dual pointing and only valid if UP is in between UA shell and merope ...... And like bitstorm argues .... I like the UPs in system ... And yes I'm probably wrong but my logic is sufficiently tinfoled so I'm not sure why I'm getting so much pushback

The UP Has already been taken very far out of the shell, and it still points to Merope.

Support just replaced the bugged UP, tvm guys. I am relieved. :)

I told you! Glad to know

Okay. So I'm going to go on a tinfoil rant here a bit.. Put on your hats.

Drew recently took down his lore guide. And he just recently put some back up. Go here to read some for yourself http://www.drewwagar.com/elite-dangerous-saga/elite-dangerous-lore/
Anyway. He basically said that anything in these guides is going to be canon from this point on, but should not contain too many spoilers. Spoilers are different from hints. One of his first articles is based on the generation ships. Talking about them, he says that:

Some are into their 30th generation. Those that are still enroute are travelling in ‘normal’ space, at relativistic velocities.

Collectively these travellers are known as ‘the missing.’
Interestingly enough, if you ‘do the math’, you’ll discover that due to the relativistic speeds, time aboard the Generation ships will have been compressed for the occupants. A further observation results in the conclusion that many of the ships should be reaching their destinations around about now if you assume they were targeted at stars within 100 lightyears (which seems plausible for 24th century technology). The maximum distance they could realistically travel would be around a 1,000 lightyears (probably much less), so both the ships and the civilisation that emerged, if any did make it, should be easily reachable by today’s explorers.

So.. My current tinfoil theory is that we are indeed looking for the generation ships. Or at least one.
Option a.) What if they chose Merope/Pleiades as a destination and are nearing it now? The UA/UP could simply be probes sent out to determine a place for them to settle.
Option b.) They have already passed the Merope system on their way to another and have left behind waypoints for anyone following them so that they can find them.

The spectrogram may be either a.) a map of their destination or b.) a map to wherever they went past Merope. Maybe they got to Merope and found it an unsuitable system and moved on. They also may have bioengineered some form of alien life that they found somewhere to create the technology in the probe. Or they are not constrained by our AI laws and are using one to create new types of synthetic life.

Whoooole lot of tinfoil here. But this season was supposed to be about The Missing, and we have only found some of the more immediate parts of that. The generation ships have been hinted at for quite some time and we have found nothing in game yet about them. Ideas? How far off could this be?

I like it.

Food for thought.

Thinking of the "missing" made me remember an older game called Homeworld. In it, a crashed ship is found on a civilization's desert planet with the "guidestone" onboard, with a basic map from Sol to their current planet, like a reference so they could get back home. Probably unrelated, but just a thought. Also, Homeworld may still be one of my favorite games of all time.

I think its reasonable to think the unknown probes or artifacts are related to the missing. They have had plenty of time to engineer or create different 'alien' looking technologies since leaving earth.

Homeworld is a milestone.
I'm still playing it from time to time!

About people ranting, getting bored and so on. Take a break.
It already happened a couple of times: in the exact moment all of you bored ones take a break, it's the time when we passionate players find the solution ;)

There was a FD comment that said they were space based. Sorry, dont have the quote.
I would certainly hope that Wild UP hunters are going into all (or nearly all) USS types and not just waiting for a Anomaly. I know I am. Cant say I would investigate every single Weapons Fire Detected, or Distress Call, but all the others I inspect religiously.
They have to be in some sort of USS, or they really would be impossible to find

Hmm on this.

You know I have this thought in the back of my mind that it is possible they are not detectable by default.

I mean the UP sits there idling with it's "strips" never lighting (unless right next to a planet/moon).

While a UA (strong anomaly signal source) lights up every 20 or so seconds.

UPs ONLY light up when there's an ADS fired nearby.

I think from now on, if I'm in an area I suspect then firing the ADS is probably worth trying.

I don't know.

Well I assumed it may be connected to the strange DBX scanning obsidian orbital. You never know in what way things are connected, after all it does say and other mysteries in the thread title.
