2.2 Reveal confirmed for gamescom

Which is an attitude none of us would accept from our colleagues, friends and family in real-life, no matter how much we may pretend otherwise.

But sure, let's demand 100% perfection anonymously online. Because it's constructive.

And so?

You never had discussions with your wife, Girlfriend or friend about something you dislike?

It is exactly what we have here: some people are expressing their opinion.

Let's assume anyway the game is 100% perfect and there is no fault. Is this better?

I Don't think so.

Honestly, from what I have seen here on the forum I am not hyped from gamescom.

But.

Listening to David Braben I got the impressions that there are a lot of things FD is working on.

So, at the end: not hyped by gamescom (btw: why they didn't mention something in the newsletter?) but faith in DB.

People will find a way to talk down anything on this forum. You may try to talk down people having criticisms or simply speaking what they feel to be the truth but it is clear to see that there are those here who choose to defend blindly EVERYTHING simply for the sake of it. That sort of behaviour deserves no respect. It shows the person in question has no opinion of their own. They are on a crusade, so much so they view anyone who says something negative as being an enemy and needing to right every wrong. It is childish. There are a great number of concerns with the development in this game. Ultimately it doesn't really matter what we say or what our opinions are. FD will do what FD will do regardless. If they even read this and agree or disagree that is something we are unlikely to have any influence over. This is a discussion board. That is what it is called. I have to assume that is what is for.

Discussing.

When I want to join a religious cult where there is only one way to worship the 'master' I will let you know. Until then, I will assume this is a discussion forum and discuss what I believe to be both good and bad about the development of this game. I do believe having an atmosphere of high expectation to be 'constructive' as you put it. It sets a bar. If FD cares about what the public thinks about its game they absoutely that is constructive. On the other hand, when that bar is set too low with an atmosphere of blind acceptance what does that achieve? Does it achieve anything?

For me the interest for passenger missions will be finding out how much they pay for each variety. It looks like the only slider so far for reward is based on faction reputation.
If "proper" take a VIP to Thor's Eye and back in under 14 days types of missions come out, it will involve a bit of risk vs reward and ROI balancing.

I don't know... if in a post "space legs" version of the game, we will be able to leave the npc helmsman on the bridge and go and play 3D holo-chess against our passengers in the recreation room... will that be better, or just more detail?

The route planner by star type will be a blessing, but also lead to inevitable "When I were a pathfinder, we had to go to Sag A every morning, up hill, in the snow (both ways) and then a Thargoid would vapourise us (if we were lucky!)" posts...
Sometimes I think there is already too much to do in the game. I suppose that means there are options so people don't have to do it all?

A little closer to topic...

did anyone catch the science part of adding things like the funnel effect of black holes, pulsars and such... I mean I'd love to drop into a binary star system with a pulsar like this maybe :)

modern marketing is so silly

we already had an announcement that they will announce the announcements, now they have a teaser announcing that they will announce something

Meanwhile we`re still waiting to see things announced years ago in the first 40 newsletters and during KS...

xDDDD I Lulzed so hard that I fell from my chair. Couldnt agree more :D

I watched the livestream. The tourist beacons provide a real tangible connection to the history of the galaxy, as well as provide some lore.

Well done FDev :)

You are absolutely right, and you should continue to post your concerns, suggestions and comments as much as you prefer. I know you've spend considerable effort on helping improving this game with many actually constructive comments and thoughts, so dont think I am seeing you as a 'hater' or something. I dont even think we disagree very much on where we want this game to be, but I do think we disagree on where this game realistically could be, and the 'direness' of the road FD is travelling on so to speak. If I came over as jumping your throat or trying to 'silence' you for having a different opinion or a non-raving thought about ED, thats not my intentional at all. I have a tendency to shift into 'debate class mode' when typing in English, which doesnt always help what should be a friendly discussion. My apologies!

I really can't wait for something like that!

Regarding tourist beacons: I was annoyed at first that there's just that beacon thing - but I like the idea of showing a blurb about the location along with the suggesting commander name.

This community is toxic.

I agree that the person you're quoting was so far out of line he deserved to be called "toxic," but I really don't think the community is. In fact, I'd go so far as to say this is a "great" community as the people who are willing to offer kind words of encouragement and advice far far outnumber the people who denigrate you at the drop of a hat. This community reminds me of a very large and somewhat dysfunctional family:)

Why does IGN hate elite dangerous? Did Someone in FD insult them or something? absolutely no mention in their gamescom reporting and no coverage at all since like january 2015

edit: did find a post on the site that was a couple weeks after the other one i found as most recent. So updated above.

Considering that getting hit by one of those funnels is considered a global extinction event even if the pulsar is thousands of light years away, I don't think they're going to do a full implementation of it... it would be insta-death. Shields and hull gone in less than a second.

I am not a hater despite what some may think. But I am a realist and while i see a great number of things that FD has done an amazing job on and lets be honest, even the bad isn't that bad, I do have a serious problem with the design decisions that are being made or at least the order in which they are being addressed.

I understand the building block approach they are taking. I can see they need to implement some things to make putting in others at a later date possible, but where my issues lie is that there are major problems that need serious attention at the same time. What I see are numerous updates passing us by while still these issues go completely ignored. It is all well and good to see ship launched fighters and multi-crew as hard hitters that can be flogged to the media and promote the game. It is all well and good to see these as stepping stones toward other features down the road too. However, it is my belief that FD needs to be adding small steps toward fixing these other major issues such as interactivity with the environment, exploration and the BGS at the same time. These need only be small steps toward an eventual goal.

The problem is that each update takes so long to come out and when we are hit by things like power play and CQC that turns a a 3/4 month wait into an 8 month wait for something to actually move the game forward. Then we find yet again these problems are not even mentioned and we are given even more ships that while flashy do nothing to make the game more playable. That is a big deal when you consider you are trying to maintain interest in the game. Of course what one deems to be important is subjective, but I consider the BGS and a means of having a deeper way to interact with your environment the most important issue in this game. It provides goals and meaning to the game beyond upgrading your ship. It brings groups of players together toward a common goal and most importantly provides a sense of purpose this game so badly needs.

If you take the Horizons season as an example you can see that while these headline features are very nice, they do little to solve this problem of purpose. THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM. So we find ourselves another year down the road playing the same game we have been since before launch - The ship buying simulator.

When we see these issues ignored over and over again you cannot help but feel FD is missing the biggest oppertunity to create a brilliant game instead of a shallow flashy lightshow. Nobody is saying that they need to drop everything and work on only this, but it should be an element of every single release. Otherwise, they will never get there. Each and every time they ignore it more and more people become disillusioned, complain on the forum about the lack of depth and pretty much get bored if we are honest and find a different game to play.

The flashy flashy only sparkles for so long until something else sparkles brighter. I would hate to see this game fail to become what it deserves to be.

Ok i am not going to throw an excuse in here from what i said prior, with the words "this community is toxic" because if i meant to say something i usualy meant it in the direct way i thought it and not like some others here, around three corners packed full of cynical metaphors. Maybe i should have said "some parts of this community are containing poison" which is a german synonym for toxic or intoxicated. Also if i meant the whole community i would have included all my negativ-pessimist-comment dark knight friends what would be very unlogical (sarcasm).

But i say sorry for my bad english as german native speaker.

PS: And if you search in old post i made you would also find comments like "Best or most and mature community i have ever seen".

+1 Absolutely right

overall a nice live chat this morning. not much we did not already know but cripes the small fighters are deadly!. I am guessing with no 2.3 or 2.4 stuff talked about yet the chances of season 3 announcement are now slim... not that i mind either way, 2.2 is looking to have a lot of improvments, and if npc crew is done well that will be the best addition to season 2 for me, again, if done well, better than planetary landings even.

A nice post from Orfeboy (top of the page), I am not quoting as I am writing this on a phone and quoting is a pain, but I like his post even though I think we might be missing something.

When people, like the poster at the top of this page see the work being done by FDev but lament the lack of work on the depth and BGS, can you not see that the two are inextricably linked? IMO

To interact with the stations and people on the stations many elements need to be put in the game to host that interaction. If you are lucky enough to have seen the art book recently released, showing the various station designs. Much of that design was carried out to allow players to walk in areas currently out of reach. These recent releases of different types of station interiors is another example of this work being done.

I don't think FDev are ignoring the back ground sim or shying away from dealing with the depth that so many people are crying out for. On the contrary, I can see the bricks being put carefully in place to allow just that, with every update they release.

I also can agree with those who have seen planet coaster and the crowd mechanics. All building blocks to a wider and deaper elite experience.

Sadly, as it cannot all be done at once we have to go out there and collect the rarest of all commodities..... Patience
