2.2 Reveal confirmed for gamescom

Me this morning:

"Hmmm, perhaps I've been too hard on Frontier over the past couple of days, ship launched fighters was a bit of a meh! However the initial stab on crew and experience for crew looks great! the new station interiors are nice, I like the CQC structures being in game, doing stuff with the UI is a bit 'deckchairs on the Titanic, but OK!', Ooooh! New stars - Shiny! Zoom in to planets on the system map? Really cool (as long as it loads quickly!) And ship transfer - it's... INSTANTANEOUS!?!??! What the...? Once again Frontier snatch defeat from a modest victory... Gah! :( "

Some really good additions this morning. Especially imo the actual rendering of planetary surfaces inside the system map when you click on a planet. No more wire frame outlines.

I'll update the blog when I get home, currently sat waiting for garage to fix my airbag.

Also ship transfer, and remote selling of ships.

Neutron and white dwarves modelled better in game allowing players to supercruise through them and get a one shot increased jump. Trade-off is risk of damage to fsd.

Looking forward to ship transfer but not a fan of instant transfer. It should take time for your ship to arrive depending on the ship and how far it is located for example.

What!!! Instantaneous?!?!

FD ... STOP! You've screwed up here. Ship transfer MUST not be instantaneous. Seriously.

FWIW Sandro said they realised it was handwavium, but thought the gameplay advantages outweighed the lack of realism. He said if you wanted to take part in a community event, or dip into some PvP or pve then you wouldnt want to wait to get involved.

I kinda agree.

I would have prefered it to be based on distance/time, so if your ship is only 30ly away then its with you fairly quickly, but to Jaques, it'll take some time to get there.

?! Yes it should be instant. It's a game. Instant is good! The game has been crying out for this since day 1.

Yes, it's a game, but there's a spectrum along the way from arcade/'casual'/convenient <----> realistic/simulation/'boring', and this is one step too far towards the left-hand side IMHO.

Think about this. If the transfer allows cargo to be moved with the ship as well, then you can pretty much invalidate CGs. Why worry about pirates when you can 'teleport' stuff long distance. Having instantaneous movement, and universal storage systems is a far cry from the original 'game' being discussed in the Kickstarter, where ships were to be registered to home ports and even multiple ownership of ships was debated.

Heck, why bother with hyperspace jumps at all? Is the logical next step is just fast travel everywhere? Which kinda removes the whole point of Elite?

Yah - I'm slightly overreacting at present. At least all of those people dismissing NMS as arcade don't have a leg to stand on now. ;) :D

What else should the python be able to do? It can land on a medium pad it can carry as much cargo as a large pad ship, it is pretty good armed for a medium sized ship...

If at all it doesnt need a fighter bay additionaly it is already a pretty good deal for a medium pad ship. The BEST for multipurpose...

The python in 1.0 was a bit OP and the python we have now got so heavy nerved that you cant stand any fight with trading outfit and without MODs against an elite NPC. For me it would give the python the long needed buff.
