Well, with those prices, the whole idea of ship transfer is pretty useless and there is no need to implement it at all. Neither with some artificial delay nor without it.

Wouldn't be surprised if those prices come down sharply once they've gone beta and then onto live, they're probably just using dev figures for now until they've got a better handle on what kind of numbers would suit appropriate distances. I'd expect sub 200LY stuff to be relatively cheap, really long teleports will probably be nosebleed territory though.

i rather *like* pottering about beteen places and enjoy the travelling, so I'm totally ambivalent about teleporting ships.

But instantly?

Heck no.

Taken to the logical conclusion (as it will be), everyone will have a stripped Asp/Conda, with G5 engineered drives and very little else, which will use as a shuttle, allowing the impractical hulks with 10LY of range - which had been a strategically limiting and balancing factor in the case of some ships - to be anywhere in the bubble in about 20 minutes. This frankly wipes its backside on the whole 'space is big' thing, and removes one of the balancing factors of ship design / outfitting.

Way to destroy the entire concept of travel, or making any concessions in ship design for increased jump range.

Part of the fun of distant CGs is sometimes not using the perfect ship for it because getting there is a chore. So we compromise and use things with a bit more range sometimes, instead of Ultimate Killing Machines - or just buy something cheap and cheerful while there, even though it won't be engineered as as capable. And y'know what: It's fun to do so. It adds variety. Free instant transport kills that idea.

Minute a Light Year sound reasonable? That way we'd hike over to CGs or distant place we want to visit and -depending on how much time we had and how desperate we are to use our uber-ship- we could either poke around the local system and do some sightseeing, get used to the place, run a few missions or maybe take our shuttle into the CG. We'd have maybe half an evening of that before the combat ship turns up, which to me would add to the game, rather than dumb it down.

Instantaneous ship delivery is a very, very bad idea. I can't see a single reason to outfit more ship than one ship with a good FSD anymore. I'll just take my exploration Asp to some warzone hundreds of LYs away, magically beam in my entire fleet - all just having 1E FSDs - let them loose upon the conflict zone without having to worry about FSD at all anymore. Hell, I could probably even forego installing FSDs on the rest of my ships at all. The last bit of strategy by positioning your ships around the galaxy goes out of the windows. Hell, perhaps I'll just travel to Jaques station, beam in my 20 ships in an instant. This will surely improve the feeling of vast distances in the galaxy...

This is one of those examples of design mistakes that will be very hard to rectify afterwards, when FD sees it was a bad choice but people already got used to this "quality of life" improvement. Fun gameplay over realism everyday, but this is a developer design invitation for exploiting the whole system.

Because they didn't think this one through, I can take one of my ships that can jump very far to any location and then teleport my whole armada of ships to the location, where are the planning, where are the tactics, what this new game mechanics does, are making the game even more like a arcade game, if that is what they want then sell as such a game, then I'm out, this is just poor design if you ask me. I can't fathom they went for that easy decision.

Indeed. What a terrible decision. There should be a delay per jump (as well as a price). Insta hopping like that is ridiculous.

Another lore explanation:

There are costly portals which can be used to instantaneously move stuff across the galaxy, but it doesn't work with living beings. This way you keep the same ship (not reassembled).

So why do we get paid to haul cargo?
Why do we even *exist*, except to move passengers?

We have been told repeatedly that there is no such thing in the science of the game. It's gamey nonsense.

i don't understand where is the problem.

consider it as a sell on the place where you left it and buy a new one where actually you are.
there is no 'magical trick' at all in this.

The prices are not fixed yet - as they said on the stream, any figures and text you see in the videos is placeholder only at this point.

I personally want them to be sky high prices.

Also, how about random damage? Not every flight goes without problems, maybe add some RNG to the mix for 'unexpected events'. No ship destruction though.

And I would like to have it arrive in real time, and have a message pop up as it moves.

YEs, this guy gets it. The game are now caving in for the instant and I want everything now crowd. Why do we even bother with fuel? no I want infinity fuel! the list can be very long.
It's a can of worms.....

Frontier probabaly looked at the NMS sales figures and went green-eyed.

I made a possible lore explanation here:

The only plausible explanation is that the ship is replicated (rebuilt) at your current station based on exact data. The original ship is disassembled.

This is some super-advanced 3D Printing, replicator technology that's also extremely-fast, instantaneous.
Sold like that it would make sense, nice way of putting it
I agree. I see no sense in sacrificing fun for the sake of 'realism'
Nobody's gona be doing this constantly especially with big ships with the ship size*distance=cost.
For the sake of the few times folks are going to want to do this why break the fun?
people already complain about grind in this game so let's not add to it eh?

Except that in your current place you could not buy the ship.
Flawed logic.

I think Frontier is giving players options here!

If you want the old way of ship transfert and you have lot of time then do it like old times, plan your travel and bring back your ship. It's up to you!

If you prefer the new one (pay and instant) you can use it, if you don't have a lot of time, again it's up to you!

For me it's the same old thing as open/solo for CG. You have the choice, use it, play your way and don't try to change the way other would want to play.

My reaction to this is simply it will have to go through beta first so they will yay or nay it before us, having a daily fee will be a nice idea but all those who have loads of ships all over the place its gonna be expensive. Also what would happen if you dont have enough to cover the fee do you get a fine on your head that grows daily for unpaid storage fees, do they sell the ship or impound it till you actually have enough to pay the impound fees to get your ship back?

Instant transfer for me wouldnt be a issue I can see why they done it as ED isnt a facebook game where you have to wait x minutes for another life its a game that you want to keep playing, for me 2.2 sounds like an amazing addition and I will still reserve judgement until I have played it for at least a couple of months.

How about this as some additional tweaks.

Station A has something that needs to be shipped to Station B (we do not need to know what it is). You have a suitable ship at Station A, and you have put in a request for it to be transported to Station B (not knowing at the time of the background shipment). Station A contacts you, asking if you would permit them to use your ship to transport that item (flat rate, payment is linked only to distance travelled). They will guarantee your ship will be cleaned and serviced upon arrival, and will (if required) cover any insurance pay-outs. It may well be that the payment would cancel out the transport costs, and leave you a small profit (not as much as if you had done trading the full length of the run, but a profit).

Transporting a ship will (obviously) cost you a fee. Using simple numbers, it might be 1,000cr per 10ly travelled (less if your ship has a fuel scoop, as the transport pilot will be able to scoop along the run, instead of docking and having to pay station fees and fuel costs (and scooping could also reduce the time taken to deliver your ship)).

Might it be possible to build up a rapport with some transport pilots, as you learn to trust them (and they learn that you are a reliable client)?

You can´t buy any ship at any station. It depends on the type (industrial, high tec, etc.). So, following your logic, if you can (re)buy your toprated conda at any station, this would also mean that it doesnt make any difference anymore which type of station you are at in regard of what they offer.

THIS!

Mixed feelings about it.
I thought there would have been some wait time for it, something like a minute for 50ly.
However, i'm not sure there would be a point for it.
If you make it too short it'd be pointless, if you make it too long, it'd be useless.
I don't know, still more keen to have a delay, but not sure how it should be balanced.

Modest delay would be great. Not hours but minutes.

Any delay will have the same number of fans and dissenters as instant so I guess they loose nothing by going straight for the instant. Super cruise, hyperspace these are all 'believables' now because we have accepted them not because they are realistic.

I like the instant so that the game can be played for short periods, without you feeling like you are being punished for not being able to put in the hours.

Nice feature, but they need to put a timer on it based on ly distance !!!

How did they come up with that seriously. Getting the "wanted" tag of a ship takes 5 seconds but transfering your gear over hundreds of ly is instantaneous ?[rolleyes]

Christ sakes .. Seriously this forum is a joke these days.

Ship transfer is what people have been asking for from the beginning (myself included). Now FD are adding it , suddenly its a 'game breaking' feature.

Get real people, jeezzzz ....

Module storage needed implementing,no problem with that, but insta-ship tranport?

Stupid,just stupid.

The day that this patch goes live will be the last day anyone ever performs a manual jump in a Corvette. If anyone thinks that is not game ruining then they must be mad.
