And you think FD hasn't thought about that? It doesn't take forum uproar for them to work that out. Hopefully in the stream they were just putting it out there to see what people would think. I agree a delay of some sort would be fine for me (say 5mins per 100LY would be a nice value). But any more than that and people can just fly there quicker. Any quicker than that and people will be saying its breaking the game.

Just sick of the crap people come out with on a day to day basis in this place thats all ... [Rant Mode off].

They could use the community a lot more, ask the question first, then we could have a discussion regarding that matter. Nope this is in the last minute "oh lets do this too"

I'm a big fan of FD and ED, but silly will be and always is silly.

I think Frontier is giving players options here!

No, it is actually taking away design and build options because... why bother?

Why bother balancing your perfect kill-ship with considerations of practicality and range? Why consider skipping on the military hull for your FDL because it wipes 2LY of the range?
Why bother building a dedicated 'long haul' combat ship for tavelling to distant CGs?
Why bother with anything other than the lowest grade FSD drive?

As to the cost: I doubt that it will be several million per ship. And if we're playing economics, then it should be that kind of money, because if it saves an hour or two of travel, that is easily the amount that can be earned to offset it in the time saved.

Transport - Very much "yes" and overdue.

Insta-transfer - Very much "no". There ought to be a cost based on ship size and time delay based on distance. The latter doesn't have to be punative; particularly if you are able to carry on doing what you were doing anyway, while you wait. I'm sure it would be possible to calculate how long it would take to personally jump the required distance at the maximum rate possible in the most favourably-equipped iteration of the ship in question (or even at a sensible fraction of that time). That would be fair, and to some extent prevent Cmdrs circumventing poor jump range of a heavy-hitter.

Instant is the quick and dirty solution. Update location in database, with some parameters. Advantage: We can have it in no time. Disadvantage: My immersion goes out of the door.

It´s the same un-creative approach to a problem like the galactic faster-than-light-roundcall to all pirates when you carry 1 ton of biowaste.

On the other hand there are very creative things like the unknown probe storyline.

Somebody said it already - it looks like 2 different teams are working on the game.

Disadvantages of the instant-ship-solution:

- Nobody will fly his expensive and maybe not-so-jump-capable ship through space
- Everyone will fly just 60 ly anacondas until he reached his destination, then calls in all other ships
- we will see 100s of ships wandering through the bubble, until the action is over. No home bases needed.

Not sure if "instant" ist the right way. I say no.

It should take considerably longer to relocate a ship than that, lest we have the bored wealthy relocating their battle corvettes en mass from point of interest to point of interest. Anyone who is a proponent of Open should see the terrifying implications of this. It basically nullifies the value of jump ranges on ships.

There is a part of me that thinks the community factor went into the decision. How to bring people into close proximity to each other more quickly.

That's not an advocative statement.

I'm pretty sure this is something they have been wanting to do for a long time, it has been mentioned from pretty much day 1, don't be silly with the whole 'last minute' thing.

Magic, instant ship delivery, hmm I would prefer to have it time based on distance plus more expensive the greater the distance.
It IS more expensive the greater the distance. And the greater the value of the ship, which at least partially negates the ZOMG EVERYONE WILL JUST SUMMON THEIR A-RATED STAR DESTROYERS TO JACQUES complaints.

This really breaks the engineer modding also. Ex. you go to Palin (Obsidian) with a 50 ly jump ship, then you insta recall all your ships and mod them all.

You need the location to have a shipyard to be able to summon, errr, "request transport" your ship.

Christ sakes .. Seriously this forum is a joke these days.

Ship transfer is what people have been asking for from the beginning (myself included). Now FD are adding it , suddenly its a 'game breaking' feature.

Get real people, jeezzzz ....

That ship transfer is coming is great and would be an easy highlight of the already impressive list of features coming in 2.2 if done right! Sadly, making the transfer instantaneous is the one big mistake they should have avoided! The money / fee side is much less crucial because money isn't a factor for many people in the game anymore, 2 years after release. But hand-wavingly just transporting your whole armada hundreds of light years breaks the whole illusion of a galaxy where distances matter.

How about

One light year = one minute and 100cr
IMO way too slow.

Someone mentioned 100ly = 5min, that would be a figure i would aim (or maybe even faster, 3-4min). Would still be waiting (and for example be realistic), but it would not be long wait most time.

let me dig up what has actually been said about this topic, the way THIS as been delivered is rushed for sure. Never did they even mention INSTANT delivery of you ships.

I would bet on the costs eventually being nerf to the point of it being cheap to teleport your ships to and from Jacques.

Right, it then becomes the game for those who grind their billions at the LRM and then look for people to throw their behemoths against. This may spell the end of Open Play for a lot of the remaining players. I'm certainly watching wearily and I have always and only played in open.

I'm going to offer some counterpoint to the "everyone running around in long-jump transports" thing.

If such is the case, the galaxy is going to be filled with low-hanging fruit.

Another nice addition is griefer and warzone avoidance ;)

Imagine your ship keeps getting destroyed by a berk in a Corvette sitting outside the station OR a huge alien fleet camped outside. You can now go somewhere else and then bring your ships to safety avoiding the alien fleet :) Hopefully having a taxi service we could also put our requests in to be transported too ;)
