Horizons Possible Idea for a combat Update

Today I had an idea while using my boring type 9..

I'll try to keep it short so:

I'd like to see a bounce mechanic: In other words, it would be funny to see shots bouncing on angled armors.

It could be like this:

Bounce possibility at 30° angle:

Missiles: 0%

Lasers: 20%

Railguns: 10%

Projectile weapons: 25-30%

and so on...

A bounced shot could still hit other ships. I would like to see it implemented only on armors, not on shields as they absorb the shot anyway.

This is only an idea, the numbers i gave are pretty random and no calculation was done.
What do you think about it?

Err, I'm no expert but I think that might be time consuming to code.....and they have bigger fish to fry first!
Would you also penalise a ricochet from target to System Authority Vessel by the way?

No I would not penalize a richochet because it's obviosly random.. and yeah, it might be time consuming code, after all this is only an idea, I don't really know if it's too hard to implement.

Interesting idea, possibly something for a year or two down the line.

There is a part of me doing the classic "nooooooooo" as random effects are the death of competitive gameplay (PvP + others) in many cases as it takes away from skill and adds weight to "who gets lucky" -> See some strategy games like COH2 which has spent the last 7 or 8 patches lowering the randomness to ensure the best player wins.

Yeah you're quite right.
But I would like to see ricochet differences form different weapons so that the fitting is even harder. After all, fitting is a crucial part of the game.

It has got me thinking of the other implications however: that is, (and again, like your OP, just on the armour front) - does the existing game mechanic take into account the angle of the strike on the surface of the Hull/ Armour when calculating DPS......?
Because clearly a "perpendicular" strike against a slab side should penetrate more than an angled shot onto the hull, and if that angle is then increased by the angle of the hull then it should be even less, right up to the point of ricochet you mention.

I don't think so.. never heard about an angle mechanic here
