Question to the naysayers about instant: is it due to realism, or due to inbalance? If due to inbalance, is there a price scale you would consider as rebalancing it? For example if sending a ship to Jaques cost 10x the rebuy.

Yes I want ship transfer - 145 votes : 73%
No, I do not want ship transfer - 2 votes: 1%

Last time I checked 145/147= 98% (not 73%)

What gives?

Either large fraction or at least as long options for me. I don't see why the game needs to be made so easy.

Is no one else bothered by the fact that this throws away any kind of previous frameshift drive balance? Just build your superjumper and travel around the galaxy, then simply summon your sluggish FdL or whatever, wherever, whenever.

I mean, will no one think of the children? The ganker children at Farseer? No one will need to mod FSDs now, what are they going to do?

Ship transfers are great, but it should take a large fraction of the time it would take to haul that stuff manually.

Instant transfers just sounds meh.

There should be a timer on the ship transfer.
First, because Insta transport is immersion breaking.
Second, because it can be exploited by ships with small jump capabilities.
Optimal time would be equal to the time needed for that ship to get there manually. Count the jumps needed, add 30 seconds per jump, and that's it. Cost should be equal to the fuel needed for the full trip plus a small fee dependant on ship worth.
There should be a maximum distance allowed for this service, say... 1000LY.
That would be convenient for us, realistic, and very useful if planned ahead. It would add another layer of planning to the game.

Now imagine this: I get a txt from a mate who says he has some free time and wants to go shoot some stuff. I am however at the other end of the bubble. I would like to say:"sure, I'll be there in a few minutes!". I dont want to say:"Sorry pal, you should have planned better, it's gonna take me at least an hour because ship transfer is delayed to increase your immersion."

In the first case, we'd have fun playing ED. In the second case we'd have fun playing civ5 instead. I'd hate to sound rude, but I actually care more about being able to have a proper session of ED with friends than keeping your immersion intact. ;)

It means 73% voted yes, 1% voted no, and 26 didnt check either one. Its multiple choices allowed, and the different questions arent grouped together.

Yes I want ship transfers but it should take time to get your ship to you.

instant transfers is not only beyond dumb (and goes against what FD have been saying they want in the game) but also it would be a tool for griefers.

FD already abandoned this when they decided right from the start that you can load/offload cargo instantly, repair your ship instantly and refuel instantly simply by pushing a button. Instant ship transfers are no more "immersion breaking" than any of the other "instant" game mechanics we already have.

but also it would be a tool for griefers.

How could a griefer possibly use instant ship transfer to "grief" anyone?

Okay, here's my idea/formula for transfer time, cost and how...

I think you should be able to transfer ships and modules from any station to any station whether or not you are there...
That meaning if your ship/module is at station A and need to be transferred to station B you can do that from station C (and maybe later from your ship)

Cost: 250 x (ship/module value) / 20 000 000 x (Light Years) = #Cr

Time: 10 seconds per Light Year.

Just a quick thought... Play around with those numbers and tell me what you think...

You cannot teleport yourself to your friend's location, you can only teleport your ships to the place you're currently at (provided said place has a shipyard).

You're already ahead in the next step after "cast summon ship" is implemented: players requesting to be able to fast-travel to any location.

If FD wanted to keep the game as realistic as possible, they would have created a "cooldown formula" for ship repairs. Yet you can take an Anaconda form 1% hull to 100% hull and repair all the modules instantly. FD is simply not interested in incorporating realistic CD mechanics when it interferes with gameplay.

Transport - Yay
Instantaneous - Booh

Agree 100%

Instant ship transfer is so bad idea that is just stupid. This is immersion breaking monster. FD please you have time - change it. Give i 1 minute for 10 ly of distance. P L E A S E !

Realism. If instantaneous transfer is possible, why would anyone bother to use ships? It simply makes no sense.

Did not vote but how about ship transport being free of charge if you wait for it. I'd be ready to wait 24h for a full fleet maybe.
Then if you need a particular ship instantly, you could pay for it.

If people want to wait, let them pretend like they already do with so many other aspects of the game. I have no interest in having to physically wait 8 hours (or some other ridiculous amount) for my ship to arrive somewhere. There comes a time when gameplay and/or "fun" is more important than trying to shoehorn in some terrible "realism" that only a select few will appreciate. This situation reminds me of the artificial wait time the developers of Subautica added. It adds nothing to the game other than some perceived magical realism and tedium. Tedium isn't good.

As I said, it's the inconsistency that grates with me. I can pretend to wait, but there's the nagging doubt of 'why can't I teleport anything else'. If waiting is an issue, why not have a 'add 1 billion credits' button for example. Working through the game to get there is SO TEDIOUS.
