One fighter at a time: why?

We recently learned that no matter how many fighters are stored in your ship, you'll only be able to use one at a time. My question is pretty simple: why? I mean, if this is a balance issue, they can simply nerf the fighter ships to make it more balanced. Besides simply making way more sense, I think it would be more fun to be able to use every fighter at the same time and then micro-manage them. It would also allow for "carrier" builds, bringing more variety to the game.

It's more fun, and it makes more sense to be able to have one fighter out at a time. So why limit it?

Because it will be game breaking for the pilots that don't like big ships, and like being a pirate.

Fighting 2 of those fighters, AND the mothership, is impossible. It's gamebreaking impossible for that particular player.

With only one fighter you as a pirate have a good chance on succes regarding the decisions you make, and the T9 pilot you are about to pirate, also does have a change to win regarding the choices he makes.

Its balanced this way.

and decreasing the DPS of those fighters is not fair for the pilots that can only carry ONE fighter instead of 2,3,4,5 ect.

And, NPC's will be deploying fighters as well..

I dont want to fight 1 elite Gunship, and 2 elite fighters the same time..

yeah, as much as I'd love to fly a Clipper with 10 fighter drones giving me an armed escort, that is totally overpowered to the point that nothing short of a capital ship would pose a problem. And if you have no challenges, what is the point?

Dont understand why ? Its normal that t9 cant fight with warships. Imagine that awsome carrier builds, add multicrew to that and you will get the dream game for my.

> Implying the game isn't already breaking when it comes to piracy. [sad]

if this is a balance issue

Of course it is a balance issue, lose the 'if'.

Also, it's a control scheme issue because you'll be able to issue simple commands to the fighters and the control scheme of multiple fighters will add a new 'which ship?' layer to the command interface, which is a nightmare for ED's UI. Fighters are a very dynamic part of the game, the UI is simply too cumbersome to overcome such a twitchy control scheme.

They opted for powerful but fragile glass cannons, which you can command to some degree. They have to cut the confusion ceiling somewhere regarding the issue. Even one more fighter will complicate things a lot, and if you don't believe this is the exact thought process behind the decision, try to email FD and ask. I'm pretty sure this is it.

Solution is to nerf a bit fighters. It would by a diference between war ships with ability to deploy multiple fighters and civilian versions where you can deploy only one fighter.

You can adjust the DPS of the fighters on a scaling level. The more fighters deployed at once, the greater the nerf to their DPS, as each fighter dies the DPS is increased on all the other remaining fighters until one fighter remains and its DPS is back to 100%.

As far as I am concerned though, if someone wants to take on a ship that's 2-3 times their size, they should be prepared for the potential of that ship having multiple fighters to defend it and they would need to plan accordingly; such as bringing a wing of friends.

More than 1 fighter at a time:
a) more awesome battles,
b) more tactical awareness required,
c) more thoughtful decisions required,
d) potential for increased multiplayer experiences,
e) greater role requirements for when player-crews is released,
f) more awesome battles.

Edit: If it's really needed, then just limit it to 3 fighters - meaning a player-pirate would be taking on a wing.

100% agree
Dont forget about that awsome battles !

Ok, so whats the point of ships taht can carry two fighter bays ? Ie corvette ........ If you can "Print" new fighters on the fly, then no need for a 2nd bay ?

It's to cut down on the cooldown. Printing the new fighter will take minutes, it will not just poop out a second one as soon as the first one is destroyed.

If you have a two fighter bay, your second fighter can be out as soon as you lose the first one.

How can people not understand this very simple fact? No offense on anyone's intelligence.
