Gamescom 2016: am I the only one disappointed?

Hi,
I've seen all the streams and I agree that the 2.2 is a good step ahead, I'm not crazy about the "passenger stuff", but I'll appreciate a lot all other features (carriers, route planner, ship transfer...)
My disappointment is coming somewhere else: at Gamescom 2015 we've seen the Horizon trailer, it was great and now we're playing with this great expansion, but this years there's nothing about 3.0/season 2017
What's next? Walkable stations (IMHO: meh)? Landable worlds (IMHO: great!!!!), but first of all: are the new things at least at alpha stage?
I'm a lifetime owner, so this is also impacting my spent money....

I just wanted to share my POV

bye

There's plenty of threads about this. And I agree to a certain degree, but that's not gonna change things. Space legs and other landable worlds will come when they're ready.

Well, while i'm too excited for 2.2 (despite a few iffy aspects of it), i think the fact that GC was all and only about it doesn't make up for the long radio silence on development.
I got that they had so little that they had to keep all of that for the four days of streaming, but i can only conclude that they are in a really bad place with the development of ED.

You not the onlyone disappointed.

They reveal something that was well known from a half year from now. We all know that 2.2 will by a passenger missions (and evryone know that it would by normal cargo missions with new cargo holds) and evryone known about fighters. For my all that gamescom elite reveal was a massive disappointed. Ive looked at starcitizen presentation on gamescom and wow ! That was something. Maby that guy on twitter who said "I have images on my screen right now that'll blow @elitedangerous ... Faces off" was thinkig about starcitizen screens ?

If they had shown next-season "content", then what good would it have done? Some concept art, even more "maybe", more "we cannot say yet"… IMAO that would've been one worthless endeavour to fill five minutes and an expectation management nightmare. Some more info about a release schedule for this season might have been nice.

I should imagine you are one of a few. There will always be those who feel they are entitled to what they want NOW because, well... money.

I would point out though a rather large contradiction in your post:

Meh = Walking, worlds to land on.
Appreciated = Carriers, route planner, ship transfer.

This leave me confused, again, as to what your actually trying to say in your post as there are more things in 2.2 that you will appreciate than things in 3.+ that you only feel meh about but still feel the need to have been given info on these 'meh' features! :D:D:D

TL;DR: Meh

I need moooaaar Infos about the future of ED

The Infos about future Content or upcoming Tech is very rare in the last months. The Gamescom was a blink of the game future so I am scared why they don't Show more ?

I wouldn't go so far as to call the OP out for his opinion.

Frontier kinda laid themselves a steaming egg with their schedule for the season, which by now clearly was a bit overenthusiastic. If they'd been on plan, then yes, there might have been some more concrete elements of the next season to show off. So… yes, it's totally valid to be disappointed if you looked at it from that perspective.

I saw it from the perspective of just wanting the game to become better, more accessible, more convenient, and just grow, and I think the last four days were really good from that point of view.

watched the videos, plus a few streams (fast forwarding a lot). most of the things coming in 2.2 are great but yes, it's very little content, specially considering the time passed, and no insight whatsoever into the future of the game. felt a bit embarrassed for ed, adam and sandro filling 4 days of streaming with waffle and repeating themselves over and over again. the actual news are no more than 20min.

david's interviews pretty interesting, but as always i got the feeling he is talking about a different game.

looks bleak indeed.

on the upside: galaxy is being revamped. yay!

So true. Hes interview is cool but i dont know what game is he talking about, maby elite in 10 years.

Considering the delays we've seen so far mean that update 2 of 4 planned for season 2 isn't happening until October when I imagine most players thought 2.4 would be out at Christmas with season 3 following, I think they would have been making a rod for their own back by trumpeting anything that may be planned for it at this time.

I'm sure we'll be told penty about season 3's intended content well in advance because they need to encourage people to buy it. If anything the fact that their focus at the moment is clearly on season 2 content is a good thing in my opinion.

Maby that guy on twitter who said "I have images on my screen right now that'll blow @elitedangerous ... Faces off" was thinkig about starcitizen screens ?

You unintentionally provided a great example of what I mean there since SC is setting the benchmark for 'reveals' 2 years + before anything resembling the content is actually created. For an example of the danger of that approach (well, another example) see the uncontrollable hypetrain that existed around NMS and how that panned out.

I'm happy with the amount of stuff that's planned for 2.2 and we're getting all of the season 2 content no matter how long it takes, then we'll have a decision to make about buying season 3 and before then, we'll know what's in it. From that perspective, nothing has actually changed.

I always prefer developers who promise little, talk about the future sparingly and then deliver more than they hyped.

I'm fed up with those who do the exact opposite (looking at you CIG or RSI or whatever they are called this week).

Look at how NMS turned out. Exactly how I said it would but there were those up in arms against me, claiming it would blow ED out of the water when it launched. Well, did it? No, of course not.

The best course of action for FD now is to hype as little as possible, talk only about the things they are absolutely sure are release-worthy and keep on building trust for the future. Not by talking and marketing but working and delivering.

The product should speak for itself. It shouldn't need developers talking it into high heavens.

They don't show stuff they aren't ready to show.

This year with all delays they have to deliver and sell Season 2 - they might want to show Season 3 (*cough* art book *cough*), but they won't. If they would, people owning Horizons would say "hey where are our content we bought?"

So while it is ok to feel disappointed - I don't - I didn't expect them to show more than 2.2, also they strongly hinted aliens arrive in the game - and that's already big on itself.

I kinda got the impression they were struggling with the streams. They did not have a lot to say and spaced over 4 days it really did not help. Everything was announced by day 2. The following two days were just repeating themselves.

OH and Paintjobs!

Did we mention paintjobs?

Of corse you right. But FD need to work at marketing and advertising. Its a very hard thing i know but they lack in it. Community can create fantastic youtub videos about the game and FD cant do it. Look at SC comercials.

You are right and that is exactly what they did. I am no developer, but I f I were to compare what has gone into 2.1 and compare it to 2.2, I would hazard a guess that there is more in 2.1 (at least from what I gathered from the streams).
