Elite Dangerous storyline discussion

I don't see the 28th being anything other than a date, especially given the lack of alternative solutions. I could be wrong, but we have nothing solid to suggest otherwise.

The cockpit shot in the preview video shown in the DB interview appears to be shot from a Viper. This may be relevant as the BH's ship, or that could maybe be the Cobra, or something else entirely.

Anecdotally, an Emperor's Dawn / News from the Void guy spammed every story-line based thread with the message, so they clearly think they know something, or that it concerns themselves to a degree. I note that their own site is running a 'woooh something is coming and we know *things* story' [ here http://www.nftv.co.uk/#!Winter-is-coming/cjds/57ae3aa60cf27510b26be2bc ], but the story itself is vague and insubstantial woo-woo. Nothing solid at all, just the usual 'we're mysterious and KNOW THINGS' stuff.

I'm not for a second swallowing the idea of a nebula looking vaguely like something. Been out in the Rift too long and heard too many 'it looks just like a man' false alarms. If you squint you can see anything you want in the stars.

I would like to point out that some of the engineers were once bounty hunters. The message may be referring to them.
I know Todd "The Blaster" McQuinn is a bounty hunter, not sure of any others though. I haven't unlocked them all yet but I have been working towards it. Do you know which others are bounty hunters or ex bounty hunters?

Good observations. I couldn't tell what ship it was myself but I haven't spent a lot of time in a Viper so I will take your word for it.

The cockpit being a Viper is probably relevant. It's worth thinking about anyway. It is a pretty common ship for a BH so that in itself doesn't help much.

A Viper isn't a long range ship generally so if the BH is flying one they may have limited range, which could help determine their area of operations.

Also gets me thinking about something in Michael Brooks book - Elite: Legacy. I will put in spoiler tags for those who haven't read it. This is describing the very very last part of the book in as little detail as I can to try to avoid spoilers, but I still put it in tags just in case -

The last part of the book describes pretty much exactly what you see in the video. A pilot in a viper with a single canister of biowaste that he is going to dump. That is where the book ends and there are questions left hanging. I'm pretty sure the book is considered lore as it is a tie-in novel, and that is how I imagined that last part of the book when I read it - exactly like the video clip.

It is probably nothing, but I might go check out the station from the book if it is in the game just to be sure.

Edit: I'm not entirely sure how to take that Emperors Dawn group. I have been reading up on in-game history and the group "Emperors Dawn" is featured but I don't know if they are a player faction just role playing or actually they should be considered part of the story like Salomé character? Doesn't matter too much I guess, even if they are just a player group they are playing the game their own way so I can respect that o7

Emperor's Dawn as a story element is a story-line that pretty much predates my time playing, so isn't something I know too much about - I only caught the tail end of it. They were finally thought wiped out... then re-emerged, making a 'last stand' in several systems as a CG. CG was about 50% successful, so it's safe to say that some probably escaped. Doubtless - as is the way with such groups when they are dealt a hammer blow - some became terrorists for hire, and so perhaps became involved with the recent attempt on Mahon's life, not really caring about the politics of it. They would make convenient patsies.

Some of the player group seem interested in the 'mysteries' and are pro Dark Wheel. I don't recall much activity from them on these matters though, and they don't seem organised in their approach: Just 'sign up, become allied to the Dark Wheel faction and go look in the Rift/Heart nebula'. They *might* have found something that evaded the notice of others, and so get a nod by FD during the wider emergence. Anyway... pure conjecture, and not very useful conjecture at that!

Considering they have a history in the game I am reluctant to discount them completely, so will do some more research and keep an eye on the posts.

The system and station from Elite: Legacy, the book I was talking about actually is in the game now I think about it. I have been there too, but wasn't looking for a bounty hunter at the time. It is called Freeholm station in the Artemis system. I will go and have a poke around tomorrow when I get time, see if I can notice anything unusual.

So Michael just said the message in the video refers to the 28th of September. Looks like we all have a bit more time to wait than anticipated.
Edit: Ok Michael had his months mixed up its still 28 Aug

One thought I had was destabilizing the system and earning rep with the anarchy faction. My thoughts on this were that taking out the fed and alliance faction ships would give me a bounty, making the bounty hunter want to come for me. I do not trust the feds or the alliance and I think having them in charge in a system with significance to the mystery could possibly impede progress.

Before the lockdown, the anarchy faction was the only one to have missions that were not donations, they had smuggling missions worth 2-3 mil but only available for commanders who have rep with them. There were no missions for them except for those, usually we see little ones to help build up rep but with this faction all you could do was bounty hunt their enemies ships.

I couldn't find another location for that faction to build up rep via missions/trade/exploration data either, so maybe that faction is the significant one in the system? I have max rep with the other 2 factions and no permits or special missions popped up so the only other alternative for that path I can see is to start working for the Anarchy faction maybe?

Actually he ment august, hes just rectified it on the UA thread. Also the video with the crashed nav beacon? On a moon with what looks like a planet in the background, could that be the pre logistics gamma system and the moon orbiting the ammonia gas giant??

Sorry didn't mean to quote you bluwolf

It could be, but that moon is a large place to search and I dont know how it relates to the other clues (except pre logistics support) so I personally wont be searching for that location from the video. Not until it can be narrowed down.

Dont get me wrong I am thinking about it (I think about every minor detail I hate it but I cant help it)! For example the moon they kept showing in the live stream when talking about the new planetary views grabbed my attention. The one in Sol (will get the name shortly). Also it being in the newsletter further made me think about it. Drew Wagar also gave a recent hint
You may want to ensure you have a 'Sol' Permit in the next couple of months.

Cheers,

Drew.

So could be possibly related?

To do with MB hint in the canonn thread, afterwards he was asked if we could progress the hunt now and he said -
You can't progress the hunt yet - you need to wait until it starts.

Michael

He is very particular with his wording I have noticed, so I suggest not to take this as "there is nothing there until the 28th". Rather the actual hunt begins on the 28th, which we already knew.

Simply put, we can't progress the hunt because it hasn't begun yet.

We can still keep on trying to solve the riddles and mysteries, but on the 28th something quite obvious will happen and the hunt will begin. Who is hunting who we do not know.

Or I am completely wrong and there is nothing else to discover until the 28th. Seems to be the popular opinion.

Anyway, this thread hasn't helped evidently. The canonn thread is still a circus, last I saw they were arguing about splitting the discussion between multiple threads. Some think it is a good idea, makes sense to try and keep things organised. Others enjoy the popularity and feelings of self importance too much to even consider the benefits. Couldn't see much science or anything going on but maybe one or two posts in between could possibly have some good info.

Anyway, I honestly cant be bothered with it anymore. I am not a people person, but I have tried to be because I absolutely love the game and story, and it can't be worked out by one person alone. Elite Dangerous has been really helping me through some pretty rough times in my real life, so I keep on trying even when I get discouraged, despite the obvious dislike some have of me. There are commanders on these forums that are polite and always helpful but unfortunately the bad is now far outweighing the good.

I am sorry, I really did try to help and join in with this amazing story. I think its better I just read about it once the book is out and in the meantime I can just fly, explore and play my favorite game.

Wish you all the best of luck o7

*Mods feel free to lock the thread, apologies for wasting the space.

I'd say keep it open Bluwolve. It doesn't hurt for us to have a separate place to speculate away from the judgement and clutter of the other thread.

Although this thread may not be a visited as the other one, it's already been 10x more polite and easy going.

As far as quitting goes, I'd suggest perhaps only taking a step back. Maybe do something else for the next few days in preparation for the "hunt". I've felt like giving up as well but couldn't bring myself to do so at least until we see what the truth is. Even though we may not have the correct theory who's to say yours or anyone else's won't be the one correct idea? We have no way of knowing until the truth is revealed. Look at it like this, consider this mystery the super bowl lol, wouldn't it be better to play your hardest for as long as you can then sit on the bench for a break rather than leave the stadium because you don't think you've helped enough?

At least, if you try to participate you can say you took a crack at it.
Let's be honest, I'm pretty sure my theory is the most tinfoil in a long time but I still enjoy at least being a part of it and trying to make sense of it.

Don't give up CMDR! o7

This. @bluwolf I think keep it open as well, after all, all we're doing is discussing the story. I don't really like posting on the other thread bc its to easy to get shot down or dismissed bc, who am I. We dont need to have all the facts down and science converted, just a general "story" related discussions away from the norm that has been, I think will be refreshing. I also love this game immensely, even though I don't know everything and all the lore but I have read reclamations by drew and obviously watched hours of vids on the elite subject and read alot of these forums. Also played the game nearly everyday since I originally got it back in January. Horizons blew my mind and still does :D. Im elite rank now, which took an age and so it should. So let's leave it open for people to bring mad theories and as long as it's just story based as the title suggests then why not. Just my opinion
