Huge Turrets?

Was just wondering if huge turret weapons will ever be introduced or even large multicannon turrets, would they be unbalanced or something? I prefer running with all turrets and to me it seems a waste in putting a large turret weapon in a huge hardpoint, especially on the corvette. I would like to see large and huge multicannon turrets the most as atm your limited to only lasers unless you want to use cannons which imo the projectiles are just too slow and are too limited in engineer upgrades.

It was asked in the livestreams after 2.1, iirc the developer answer was that they were ridiculously slow and ended up hardly ever firing due to the turn time, even gimbals tracks very slowly. In addition I believe there were major issues with clipping and other problems.

So unless I'm remembering something entirely different (possible) I think the answer is no we won't see them anytime soon unless FDev decide to jimmy the figures to make them turn faster and do pathetic amounts of damage.

I think a large multicannon turret may make it in at some point but huge and turret are kinda cross purposes.

If this is the case, it just speaks to the maneuverability issues the game has currently. A huge turret should be a great weapon for firing at large targets, and should rarely fire at small targets because of tracking speed. If large targets like Corvettes are able to move so rapidly that they can stay out of firing arcs of huge turrets, then they need to be reduced in acceleration and maneuverability to compensate.

Good thing capitol ships only use gimballed weapons, they would never fire unless there was another capitol ship as a target.

Hmm, maybe they could add a dual turret (2xmedium) for those of use that don't want huge fixed or gimballed weapons. I'm not thinking two separate turrets just dual barrels. :p

Thanks for the info, I was never sure if this topic had even been discussed by the devs. :)

Maybe they could add C3 and C4 defence platforms with like you said 2xC2 MC's or maybe one c2 laser and c2 one multi-cannon... or even 4x C1 weapens for anti SLF.

Would be nice to see some more variation for the larger hardpoints. so you can make them more role specific ie, anti-fighter and anti-large. I'm a bit annoyed atm the only choice I have for my huge hardpoint is a large pule laser (large beam is too power hungry and like the cannon its engineer upgrades suck).

You can be sure that there will be everyone and their cat trying to get them for PvP and griefing along, fire one of them in the slot and it will cause LOADS of damage to all on their way through.

if you nerf the agility of the corvette then it's literally worthless

Not if you make it ridiculously tough with high damage potential. My opinion is that the big ships are forced into a small ship role; too maneuverable and too easily destroyed. Let them be lumbering behemoths that will burn out Eagles in seconds if they get clean shots off. The problem now is that they encroach into the territory of the small ship, which limits the potential of the combat model.

Honestly, Corvette isn't really built for being turret boat. That kinda role goes to Anaconda. Corvette on other hand is more of hard strike ship, that being dictated by hardpoints and their location.

Big ships should be fulfilling that role, ie. be slower with massive firepower and strong defensive capabilities, while small ships are the opposite, ie. limited defense and less direct offensive capabilities (but torps, missiles etc to take down large ships). Cruiser type in the middle. That'd make more sense and would also prevent Anacondas from spinning around like a ballerina....

I agree, it would make for a far more interesting combat model, especially now that several large ships can bring along fighter escorts to supplement their small ship defenses.

The biggest ships in the game are cruiser sized though. They're almost corvettes I guess.

also if all large ships are to go "heavy behemoth" status they'll need one hell of an offensive and defensive buff. Right now, the Corvette has less firepower than the anaconda

That's because they made the Anaconda into a fighting ship when it was the most expensive ship in the game, rather than a multirole like it should have been. Could be solved by increasing the damage delta between hardpoint sizes so that huge hardpoints deal more than currently, making 2 huge hardpoints more effective than 1 huge and 2 large. Or, it may be that in the future they plan to add a new class of ships in the "huge" category that will get a damage reduction against large hardpoint weapons.
