Play with friends

Topic probably should have been.. Blazing your own trail...

I uninstalled Elite some time ago, I was pretty surprised from that, but I did it.

Have they added any content in the game yet?

Missions are fixed? Or just GUI upgrades still? People are still speaking for example from "Robigo smuggling"?

There is something else than pure grind?

There is something to do with your friends, in a wing? Or still the game is a single player game?

There are reasons for PvP and wing PvP, or it is still just because?

Yeah have had a blast in a wing doing a hazardous extraction zone. wing PvP? apart from being ganked by the occasional player wing, who drop in with fighting kitted ships and then complain why you, in a trade vessel, high wake out before they can destroy you, not so much

Wing up and go to a haz res or conflict zone. Have a ball. Profit.

Why? So that he can complain about it not being a real group activity because he has to share profits with his wingmate?

His only reason for posting this here is to fill up some kind of negative thread quota, which seems mandatory on Dangerous Discussions (I guess the name suggests the wrong things for some people).

Content - Yes, always
Missions - Yes, major overhaul
Grind - Yes there is other things but if you want to grind you always will and its a personal problem with you not the game.
Friends - Yes there was before too, see player groups.
PvP - Still just because, bounties/earnings/piracy is still on the to-fix list.

Sorry for the short responses but as above this thread has a negative feel and I don't want to get bogged down in a discussion. I feel they are accurate and honest enough though.

Wing PVP is an exercise in futility at the moment. Before Horizons it was doable with a bit of effort. Intancing was still a chore, but you could get it done. Now though, you can expect plenty of disconnects and being thrown to main menu when changing instance (ie going to/from hyperspace, supercruise and normal space), even if just in a single wing, never mind multiple wings trying to get a battle going.

Wing vs NPCs in RES or CZ is ok from a technical point of view. In CZ it is almost a necessity as the NPC opponents can be quite fierce, especially if ganging up on you - which they will do - whilst spamming you with their smack-guns that got unlimited ammo, spewing out chaff and even the tiniest ships have more SCBs than a fleet of fully kitted Corvettes.

One of the more fun things you can do playing with a friend or more in the game right now, is base-raiding for some quick cash and get various data by milking the data-points. Sort of like a race against the clock to get to each data-point before the timer reach zero.

Apart from that, yes, you can turn the game into a massive grind-fest if all you are focused on is getting to that next ship, getting cash for module upgrades or maxing out an engineer for some extra module capabilities. If doing that all by your lonesome, it will get boring really fast. If in a player group you can always have some chat going, ask for help if stuck on something and so on. If it weren't for being in a group (well, founding one back in the early days of the game as it happens) I probably wouldn't be playing this game nearly as much as I do.

I think Ghost Giraffe shows the unending possibilities of having fun with in Elite:

True, I am a bit negative. Why should I not be?

I have a decent amount of hours in Elite, I do not have the engineer stuff, because I could not start the grind when it came out. Instead I was crushed from the extreme grind that they created.

RES sites? Grind, just shooting endless spawns.
Combat zone? Grind, just shooting endless spawns.
Trading? Grind, no?
Mining? Grind, no?

You can grind with your friends as well, like combat zone, but just shooting endless amount of spawns, I suppose that is content as well. It is just extremely bad content if asked from me. It is like MMORPG, where you go to a field to kill endless amount of spawns.

Surprise me with one thing that is not grind in Elite? PvP? Indeed, that is not grind, but it has 0 purpose. You just, attack someone, right? Content, a lot of content right there, you can attack another player?

My friend got Vive, he logged in Elite and said, this is pretty cool. Then he said, "I do not know, there just is nothing to do in Elite..." Then he docked again. I was unable to say even one thing he could do in the game, that would not be an endless grind.

Elite has never been without complains about content, and... Multicrew is coming... Well, if that is the same as Wings update, there is a high change that I do not install Elite to test that.

They have been told at least from January 2015, I believe so, that the game does not have content. I am still waiting.

So just wanted to know, that as they were unable to do it in 1.5 years.. Well, maybe something has changed?

And everyone who has been playing the game long enough and is not just defending the game just because, they should know from what I am talking.

Even mining and trading with friends in a wing can be fun, as you get trade dividends and a sense of teamwork.

Just chatting over voice comms and moving around together is fun.

You could also go find some surface missions and do those with a friend or two. For more fun, hit medium/high security. Try having two SRVs on the ground and one ship in the air for CAS.

Why don't you and your friend(s) find a minor faction, and work together to make it the dominant force in its sectors (and expand into others)?

Lots of stuff to do in this game.

Also, "grind" is completely subjective. If you regard it as a grind, it's going to be a grind. Free your mind and your ass will follow.

I really tried to hold my reply... but I failed.
So, with no further adieu, here is my pointless, vapid, nonconstructive, unhelpful and snarky reply.

Nothing has changed since you left.
As a matter of fact, it got worse.
It seems you have already made up your mind so you should just leave the game in it's uninstalled state and possible delete the bookmark for this page.
Nope, nothing here but us grinders....

This concludes my selfish post. I hope I did not offend, but if I did, then I will activate my RNG and see what it lands on.

Dear Commander.
There is nothing for you here. I've the impression you've already made up your mind.

Personally, in my 1000 hours of ED, the only grind I found was the first iteration of the Engineers- and they fixed that pretty well, if you ask me.
But then again, you're not really asking, are you? (Neither am I, that was a rhetorical question)

I'm having a god time, and I'm ok with instant ship transfer. It's just a game. If you don't enjoy it, either play it differently, or don't.

I have played btw. couple hours as well.

Dont worry mateys.. Not going to get angry or anything.. The forum has always been like this. Every person who I have ever meat in the game, or in any gaming community, outside from this forum -> They agree with me in everything.

Unfortunately, the game does not offer good content. On this forum, as the only place on earth, people are defending the game to the last man. Even got in multiple entertaining conversation with the "defenders".

Yes, I have made up my mind. I know exactly the grind, and what kind of content there has been and probably still is. Now, if recently there has been something good, I would like to know for sure. You do not have to come to defend the game, seriously, you do not have to do that at all. The guys who know from what I talk, they can say, if they still are here, has the situation changed or not?

As I get similar answers as long time ago, I believe that nothing has changed. Else the defenders would have something new to say, right?

I think the last time I had a long conversation, that do not defend the game from parts where it is failing, or it will never get better. Try to understand that many has quit the game because of content issue. Me + everyone in my gaming community -> +50 elite players. All have the same reasons to quit, but here on this forum, everyone has some bright ideas how awesome the content is, that does not really even exists.

I suppose this will never happen, as the forum is always filled with toxic defenders. Yes, I had even talk about this. That the defenders come there with their reasons, to defend to the last man, when they could just let the others talk. Many has got tired of you guys. So please, you do not have to feel urge to answer. If you do not understand, then just skip it.

The best reason ever has been, that what the game does not provide you can imagine that. Right matey, I can indeed.

One more thing, many of the mechanisms in the game has been done very well. Sad thing is that they do not understand to reap all the benefits from those. And no, I am not going anywhere, the game is well built, it is just missing the content. I am waiting.

Well, then I don't get it, raok. If you've logged in and played, then why are you here asking about content? Sure, lots of stuff has been fixed since 2.1 hit. As a matter of fact, missions are not only much more intuitive, but have about a 99% bug-free rate. For some missions, there are multiple paths to victory. There are fun community goals, and the BGS is much more responsive to player actions (IMO).

The fact is you wrote your original post in such a manner as "This game sucked, so I uninstalled it. I'm sure it still sucks, but if you can give me a reason to play it then maybe I'll play it."

Well, nobody on this forum owes you a justification for liking or disliking this game. If you have a limited imagination and find it too grindy, then leave it uninstalled and don't play it.

Otherwise, suit up, fire up the engines, wing up with some mates, and go have fun.

...I said "mates" like I'm an Englishman or something.

*edit*

What I'm saying is, don't type up what appears to be a troll-post and then get all butt-hurt and start defending yourself when people react negatively to it.

Sorry, but absolutely no butt-hurt here.

You guys dont have to defend the game in every post. Right?

If someone says something negative, let them say. Negative feedback is more important than "Everything is awesome" feedback. The negative can be fixed, everything is awesome cannot.

So, has it got better or not?

If you are from the group who thinks that "Everything is Awesome", please do not tell me your opinion. If you know and understand the content issues that have been in the game always, are those still in the game?

Yeah, they're all fixed. Everything is awesome.

If you are looking for an instant gratification game, this is NOT the game for you. This game is supposed to be a sim, and real life (I know, I know) takes a long time to achieve major goals. Example, you don't become a millionaire without working hard for it. I guess you have to ask yourself what do you want to do in this game? Almost every game has a grind though, FPS games you grind to rank up and get better guns. etc. I have found that finding an active group of people, that participate in their own player made content and objectives. There is plenty of content, you just have to be willing to put effort in to find what you want to do. If not, try something else.

This "content" issue though is partially Frontier's fault. By creating a solo, private and open mode, they have effectively split all the people that play the game up, therefore limiting peer to peer contact. As a result, you just aren't going to encounter that many people in the game unless you go to a CG or other hotspot. (This is NOT meant to incite the Mobius play as you want rants) I'm simply stating a fact. With multiple modes you separate players. I suspect had there only been one mode from the start, no one would have complained. In the end, it may be their undoing. Its a shame it went this way.

Still unsure where this thread is going... OP has my "-ometer" reading 3 and my doubt-detector flashing warnings but I'll bite again...

At the risk of being labelled a fanboy:
You (and your VR friend) need to decide what you want out the game. If you want the game to hold your hand and tell you what to do and where to fly then you are going to get bored within about 10 hours. Ditto that if you just want to fly the biggest baddest ship.
My personal advice is that you want player groups. Check out some youtube videos like Hammers of Slough or Fuel Rats or Elite racers. None are instant gratification but in no way can any be considered grinding. And thats just 3 of the presumably hundreds of groups.

Sure you and others have argued this isn't "the game" making content this is the community so I'll address that in advance with a rather sarcastic post I was going to send earlier but decided not to:

RES sites? Grind, just shooting endless spawns.
Combat zone? Grind, just shooting endless spawns.
Trading? Grind, no?
Mining? Grind, no?

GTA V, boring, all you do is grind shooting endless spawns
Need for Speed - Grind, all you do is drive and avoid endless spawns of police
Blacksmith simulator - all you do is grind... Wait what?!?

Yes levity but hopefully you can see where I'm going with this, most of the best fun to be had in games is when you just mess around. Getting friends together and trying to get a bike to land on top of a big rig on top of a plane is stupidly good fun.
As is trying to make your own roadblock in N4S and seeing how far you can back the traffic up before one of your friends starts a police chase through that area.

Edit: Yup you can be negative but the OP sets the tone for the rest of the thread so starting with a bullet point list of "This is crap, any better yet?" kinda gets peoples backs up. And following that up with the "white knight" and "Fanboy" theory without mentioning the labels doesn't help.
For the record I'm personally surprised that you didn't mention connection issues. That sits above all your valid criticisms in my book (yes some of them are valid). Whilst I love the game and the community (mostly) I'm not one of those that will defend things that are clearly bad but I'm not going to be one to put a downer on everything as if everyone did that the Developers would read it and decide they can't be bothered to continue updating it.

I somehow like this thread to be honest...

It is very interesting to see how people assume things. Well, not playing the games you listed btw. And yes, I have couple more hours of ED behind than just couple. Also, ED is pure grind, unfortunately.

Well, I am playing at the moment Naval Action. It has zero content, but PvP is so well done that keeps me playing. I wish Elite had equally good pvp content, but I suppose we get multicrew and some Thargoid grind in the near future.

Anyway, thanks guys.. Will be waiting a bit more before reinstall.
