How many CMDRs sign up to CGs but don't take part?

Just to satisfy my curiosity really.

Since the implementation of the sign up at any mission board, at any station for Community Goals in 2.0, CGs don't function as they used to. Community goals count you as a contributor as soon as you sign up, not after you make your first contribution. Apart from giving false readings for the number of participants, it essentially makes the lower reward brackets redundant, a single ton delivered in a trade CG will guarantee you place in the 75% bracket, and a couple of runs into the 50% bracket. It's quite easy now to do one afternoon play now and sit happily in the 10% bracket for the remainder of the CG.

Personally, I would prefer it to only count those that have taken part. Despite being community based, they used to have a fun competitive edge to them as well. It also was more rewarding as you stated off in the lowest bracket and as you moved up it felt like you had achieved something.

So how many, for whatever reason sign up and don't take part?

I've not signed up for any that I have not planned on taking part in.
It's just added mess on the transaction screen.

However, the latest bounty hunting CG, I signed up to, and got side tracked with a newbie.
By then time I go back to the port, I only handed in 14,000cr.
And then I've been extra busy with work since then, which I didn't know when i signed up.

If I dont get any free time before Thursday, that will likely remain all i ever contribute to the CG. Lol

For trade and bounty CGs, like Ambika, I tend to bring 1 full load of cargo for the trade CG, while I'm on route.
Then do the bounty hunting until I accidentally become wanted, or need to high wake for repairs.
Then I'll go grab some more cargo, bring that in, cash in my vouchers, and repeat.
My contribution to the trade CG is basically dependent on how many mistakes o make bounty hunting. :D

Those that sign up but don't take part make it easier for me to get in the top 10%

So thanks to those that do :)

I would love to participate more often in cgs,
but i have a slow connection and play open,
thus i don't go to "cg-slaughterhouses" to participate.

Never done that, If I sign up to do something I'm gonna do it! A man is only worth as much as his word.

Now, should it be possible? Yeah, signing up from somwhere else is good, tough the people who don't contribut shouldn't be counted by the CG just be a able to take a look at it.

Yep, the signing up bit I'm fine with. It's intended function was raise awareness of the goals. The contribution bit is wrong IMO.

Usually I'll sign up as I arrive with a contribution, but there have been some exceptions. I signed up to the first Jaques cargo CG but it finished early before I could get there.

I used to be ok signing up to these, but since 2.1 I am mostly interested in getting my combat rank up, but have been unable to due to having to dump my cargo.

I used a CG for exploration when I returned from a long trip, and this was very welcome to double my income, so I signed up intentionally. I would say I always sign up with the intention to play...

The last CG I entered was back in 2.1. I chose the Empire side in a conflict between the Empire and the Feds. I had to transfer to a small ship just to register at a pokey outpost in the middle of nowhere. Having signed up I made my way back to the big station, sold my small ship and switched back to my battle Corvette. Jumped into combat, and got utterly slaughtered by a Fed Capitol Ship. The take-up of Fed players Vs Empire was also 2:1, so the Feds had the upper hand and I realised Id chosen the wrong side. What I should have done was go fix my ship and register for the other side (if thats possible), but instead I limped off to fix the ship and vowed to not get involved with CG conflict zone goals again.

I've only signed up to ones I've taken part in and contributed. I sign up on the way now, so there's a chance that in the future my commander will be killed before they have a chance to contribute. I've had ones die whilst contributing to CG (Leopold Barrington died at Wyrd CG).

I have a look on Thursdays and usually sign up for everything that I'm interested in, even if I'm not heading straight there. It means I won't accidentally hand stuff in without being signed up.

although I've signed up to a couple and never got around to it. I like to think of it as helping other Commanders. :p

I wouldn't sign up to a CG if I wasn't intending to do it. Usually I still just sign up at the station the CG is running at, the only exception was the 'Repair Jaques' one where I signed up before leaving the bubble to keep track of progress on the way.

Personally, I think that to count as a contributor to the CG you need to actually contribute something, even if it's just a single ton of cargo, single report or one bounty/combat bond.

I always take part in the CGs I sign up for, and I try to go for the very top of the board, managed it twice (top ten) since ED was released, came close to the top for Obsidian Orbital CG when that was built as well! ;)

So yeah, if you sign up try and take part - they can pay quite well at the higher tiers as well!

Are we actually certain that the listed number of "Contributors" isn't the people who have actually contributed at least 1 of the required unit of [insert commodity, voucher here]?

It's simple to tell, go to any CG with thousands of contributors, sign up and deliver 1 tonne. You will be placed in the top 75%, ergo 25% of CMDRs have delivered less than 1 tonne.

Besides that I have been the first to sign up to many CGs (in both the current form and old), and it will list 1 contributor, despite me not actually delivering.

That's exactly when I screen grabbed it and giffed it, whilst waiting for the mission board...

Get Sandro to make the board open instantly, this waiting business has just got to end!

Back to the topic? I'll sign up generally if I am involved. It's rare for me to sign up to a CG unless I'm involved. Given people can and not do anything, the numbers of actual participants is tossed under the bus from a statistics standpoint, to make it easier to access. The offset is that artificially pushes down the bar and so more people make more money for less effort.

That was probably the intent?
