haven't got a reason to play

i want to play elite dangerous but i haven't got a reason to play. i find supercruise slow and tedious, missions are boring and i don't find trading, mining, exploring, fun. i loved the combat but with the current ai i'm not good enough to fight it and i don't see the point of grinding for ships or faction rep cause it takes to long. i love being updated, watching youtube vids and livestreams but i just find elite dangerous boring to play. the only fun i have with the game is when i'm parked on a landing pad at a station cause i like the station ambience

Have you tried racing?

I'm not sure what kind of answer you're looking for... If you find it boring then set it down and go play something else. Or go racing. Or buy a VR Helmet and HOTAS and have your mind blown - that space station ambience will increase a thousand-fold.

Not yet, perhaps. But the way to get is by playing better opponents. I spent two weeks ad millions in rebuys after 2.1, and had to go back to first principles and learn to fight again.

If you just try to beat the AI by using bigger ships then it's just going to cost a ton of rebuy and you're not improving your own skill-set. I'd recommend buying something small and cheap and practising in protected Rez zones. It''s fun and doesn't cost much if you crash. You'll learn a lot! :)

absolutely this. get a viper, an eagle or something, and fight away. lots of fun, quite a challenge, learn a lot, and rebuys don't hurt.

and, as alec has said, do a buckyball race.

i want to play elite dangerous

Apparently you don't!

If I want to do something, I don't look for a reason to do it. The fact that I want to do it is enough reason.

If you think you want something but feel you need to motivate yourself to do it, then it means you either don't know what you actually want and just bored.

You even say you find playing Elite boring. Well, then.

Do you have Horizons?

If so, grab the fastest Eagle you can insure-rebuy some times over and go canyoneering on some ice ball. See how low you can go at top speed and boost. Post vids :)
Then do it upside-down and make your very own, personalized crater! ;)

Wait for 2.2 or 2.3 to be released. Get beta access for 2.2 if you want.

The Thargoids are rumored to appear on August 28.

May I predict that the Thargoids will require us to transport 6 million tonnes of Thargoid margarine from XXX station to YYY station in order to support their genetic indisposition to dairy products, such as butter?

I'm not sure that's necessarily true. I'm personally of the opinion that The Hunt may well not be connected to the Thargoid mystery at all. I think that binary code seen in the David Braben interview / Alien interruption sequence was an Easter egg within a reveal (the reveal being the arrival of the Aliens but the Easter egg being something separate, perhaps tied into the story of The Missing).

I think those stories are connected.

FD seemed to indicate separate storylines for the game, which wouldn't necessarily overlap but now they seemed to change their minds, probably because they realised it'll be easier to follow for the players if they came up with a convoluted narrative which connects everything together more or less.

This way, they have the opportunity to attract people's attention to other parts of the game through the story which hopefully will have politics (powerplay), combat (obviously), exploration (far away places like the Rift) and all the other activities through various CGs created in the theme of a galactic narrative.

This is all speculation of course, we'll have to wait and see. Anyway, I'm pretty excited for the event starting this sunday, wherever that may lead to.

-Something that helped me was finding a minor faction, an easy one, a low pop system with a station not far from the arrival point.

Search for a faction with a government you like for example, anarchy (lots of smuggling and "liberate" missions which are bugged as hell and have no sense at all), corporate (for some exploration missions and planet oriented)

The missions are repetitive and have no sense like staking 3 times exactly the same mission so you can do 3 missions at once.

-Another thing you can try is griefing other players, I think that is the most fun you can have in this game. No boring missions, no stupid mechanics like exploration point and wait or boring mining.

Lets see...

You don't like super cruise.
You don't like missions.
You don't like Mining.
You don't like trading.
You can't pew pew.

But you do like to sit on the pad in station.

Here's my custom made job, just for you.

You can be a security guard.
You can sit on the pad and watch for speeders. When you're done there- you can patrol the perimeter with the other security forces and maintain law and order.
All done in open. You get to meet other people and be free of the worries of getting killed... mostly.

See. All fixed.
Emergent and fun.

When I'm bored of something I stop doing it.

That's the best advice anyone can give you really. Don't force yourself to like something.

There are no security guards at stations, FD haven't coded any people into the game at all.
