Private groups - immersion controls?

First of all apologies if this has been mentioned before, if it has I have missed it.

With all the discussion around ship/module transfers being instant or not, AI being too hard (or easy) and the choice of more 'gamey' elements over a more accurate simulation would a possible solution be for more controls for private groups? There seems to be a split on a huge number of issues in the ED community and it seems to be based on people available time, personal preference or something else, so instead of alienating X group of people why cant private groups be given more control over a number of things like AI difficulty, in-game time for things to happen (e.g. ship transfer, death respawn, AI loss) etc?

I know a lot of people will be thinking but X change will mean X outcome long term, but the fact is every decision FD has ever made has changed how the game might have been from instant death respawn times (so you can kill someone and they can instantly respawn in the same system and then kill you whilst you are at reduced hull) to Engineers that have made my ship and may other near invulnerable against any n0n-horizon players and many, many others.

The thing I love about this community is how passionate the majority are about experiencing their version of a space game, and instead of losing people because they find it too hard/easy, or because they dont have the time others have (or more time), why cant we have something like this to enable something for all. I dont mean we should have a private group where you can turn everything into instant easymode and create unbalance (Open would have to be the minimum standard), but allow some private groups to make things harder and let them experience the game they want. I dont believe there is a perfect solution, but I would really like one where we keep the maximum amount of players and get even more ED experiences.

To be clear my personal preference is for less waiting times, but it really isnt a deal breaker for me. The concern I have is that some of these will be for other people and our community will only shrink.

It's been discussed before but only in the context of PvP/PvE rules. There are no tools for a group owner to set PG rulesets that are not the game rulesets.

Dealing with different game mechanics would be a significant coding challenge, and there would still be the 'flip to solo, use non PG thing to do stuff faster, flip back to PG' issue.

Posters below here - please don't turn this into another epic about why instant travel is the best thing ever, or the worst thing ever.

But you can, just not forcefully. There are PvP groups, no-PvP groups, RP groups, all kinds of groups. If you want to make a private group that has wait times for ship transfer and commodity loading and repairs and no combat logging and all that stuff, go for it, it will take minimal personal management to do it, you just play how you think you should and trust that other members of the group are doing so as well, otherwise why would they be in the group?

In fact I've never quite understood if there are so many people that despise combat logging (both Alt F4 and to menu), etc why they haven't created a group for all the apparently numerous players that want FD to do something concrete about it to play in. Then they would never see anyone combat log. They could even call it Suibom and agree upon a suitable in-combat logout timer, or a no high waking rule or whatever.

We have the tools to do it, with minimal effort. There's no need to impose the rules via a game function when you can just implement them by playing with like minded people, it's the beauty of the private group system.
