Colour in SPAAAACE

I know its early yet, but I hope that realism takes a backseat (in the cargo hold?) in order to give us systems out there with notable use of colour. So far everything has bee lovely orange, red, brown, gold... but all with that general hue.

I'd like to hope that we'll see some systems bathed in blue, green, purple, et all to better give us variety in our travels.

Presumably you mean the planets and not space itself. I think this will definitely change for the better soon especially if the latest newsletter is anything to go by.

Dust clouds. Wierd particle fields. Flying through planetary Aurorae.

Visual effects caused by FTL travel (yes, I know that's logically nonsensical :p)

Binary stars interacting with each other's corona, through their shard gravity well. What does a pulsar actually look like? Why can't it be colourful?

I think there's scope for eye-candy whilst staying within some realistic parameters.

I agree that there does seem to be an orangey theme going on in this game at the moment. Space is black sure, and that's how it should be. Though of course black isn't actually a colour anyway. Perhaps it will be better when (if?) we can change the cockpit hud colours.

In addition to the orangey cockpit theme though, many of the planets (but not all) seem to have an orangey brown thing going on. Top marks for the station exteriors/interiors though. Not a whiff of the orangey brown there.

There are like 3000 space games where the backdrop contains more vibrant color than actual black space, I am so glad that in ED what we see is actually out there, not some rainbow space fantasy.:D

Perhaps when you are close to a colorful nebula? Although I have no idea how that would look to the naked human eye.

As this is not a limited sector based spacesim in which you can color backgrounds on a per sector basis I would would say this might not be practical. Anyhow I would like space to look quite realistic myself. Rumors are it is most beautiful as it is. :)

Just look at those stars in ED.
I do hope though that not all asteroids are orangy-brown. :)

Look up what is actually visible in space versus the pictures you see from the likes of Hubble and what wavelengths they are using ;)

I'm certain all this kind of thing will be added further down the line as the game nears completion in a few months.

If you want realism, build your own ship and fly there. This is a game, deal with that.

In the same tone one could reply that if you want colored space you might buy another space sim like X Rebirth and play that. This is a different game, deal with that. :)

Like this idea of more color in stars.

Well Looking from Earth is a totally different. Cloud cover, Haze, City light can make stars look White. If you go in area where there no light you would know this.

It is ofcourse worth remembering that Elite was by its nature (of technology) monochrome (unless it was the later 16-bit versions.. er.. duplobrick colourscheme) - whereas Frontier was awash with colour.

A happy medium would be nice. The importance of colour cant be overstated in terms of retaining interest and inspiring mood.

Let us remember also that by its very nature, this isn't a simulation by the common definition. I just worry that Elite Dangerous will be remembered alongside Quake and Quake 2 in the brownzone :D

This has been asked for before and we received a fairly categorical 'No' from one of the devs.

Can you give me a link?
Because there is official art with different cockpit HUD hues in one of the newsletters.
So I think we will get customizable HUD colors.
