The Galaxy - Is its size now considered to be a barrier to gameplay by the Developers?

I do actually feel VERY sorry for them for that. Months of hard work, a lot of smart innovation and I bet they were really excited to do that reveal - I would be. They deserve to feel good about that work and what theyre achieving and all those unspoken names have their moment of glory. This has clouded it. But then, I do think its a big deal. It's one of those seemingly small things which is actually one of the bigger game-breakers. Other features are naturally in-world. This is the only one that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Either way, I do feel for those hard workers who may feel a little put out their due praise and workload has been a little lost to this one player issue.

Pure example of forum echo bubble - outside it everyone seems to be enjoying upcoming 2.2 news a great deal. Yes, people foam here, but on few threads and really with nothing much going on it is already tiresome tirade.

Why is everyone getting so worked up about the feature? Yes, it may be instant but no one seems to factor in possible costs. I bet moving an anaconda will cost you in the 10s of millions. Not a sum you spend several times a day.

No, Sandy has already covered it. He specifically said it's going to be cheap so that you can use it as much as possible.

I am very much looking forward to release 2.2 myself (as I tried to emphasize in this thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/281969-Update-2-2-So-much-light-but-also-some-shadow!). It contains a lot of features I have been looking forward to for a long time (passenger missions, NPC crews, CQC stations used in the main game and - yes - ship transfer). But if there is some announced feature that has apparent flaws in my opinion, I think it's more helpful to point those flaws out than uncritically praising and defending every announcement FD releases.

Criticism is all cool (and I hope FD absorbs this all). What I said that 2.2 is overshadowed by issue of instant ship transfer. It's really not. Don't get me wrong, people are right to express disappointment. Just saying that other venues don't debate so hotly about this.

Ignoring any vitriol - it goes to show that whatever side of the fence you're on - we all care deeply about the game.

Yes, we take note of what is discussed. If there was something new to post on the topic then we would, but I think Sandy has already covered it. If anything changes, we'll post accordingly.

Thanks Michael. The few words go a long way to reassuring that FD do listen to what people are saying on the forums, even if you don't agree with what people are saying.

This! Hubby and I are casual players so for us transferring big ships will be occasional luxury, and we're so giddy about 2.2. Then I saw the forums and holy crap, can't make anyone happy. Don't use transfer if you don't like it. For me and hubby it will finally let us play together different types of missions (his vulture, which he finally earned, is slow to travel in).

Did Sandro post something about this or is this another Sandy? Last post I can find from Sandro is 5th August, before GamesCom. I couldn't watch the livestreams at the time, did he explain stuff during the interviews?
Cheers :)

It has been stated that costs won't be prohibitive.

He talked about it on the Livestreams and in an interview with Laveradio, as well as with people at Gamescom.

Making a to-scale universe sounds like a great idea until you have to make a game in it. Glad ship transfer is happening. It's becoming soul-crushing to have to spend all my gaming time getting to the gameplay.

I am very glad ship transfer is coming, too, but I would prefer it if it wouldn't be instant - it would retain its very convenient function without sacrificing the meaning of distance in a game that features a 1:1simulation of the milky way.

Was there a comment about the availability of ships in shipyards?

Hi! Can I buy a Conda please?
We don't sell these.
Well, order one to be delivered instantly.

Meaning can be conveyed in different way, like showing how far ship is from you (giving sense of scale), while leaving time compressed for pure gameplay reasons.

Of course I don't know about other people, but for me such displayed distances in light years between ships and the differences between them carry little meaning or significance if transporting them to my location always takes the same amount of time (specifically: none at all)
