Horizons 8 Months Horizons planet lighting still not fixed.

Planets darkside won't stay dark It's been 8 months for god sake., is it getting looked at ?, is it to difficult to fix ?, do you care.

Dexwel.

I don't know about the lighting, it's the phantom black squares and the stretched textures on non land-able planets that need fixing.

Your cockpit has light enhancing technology. Otherwise it would be pitch black and you couldn't see anything to land.

Its actually a bug, seeing as some planets are pitch black, while others suddenly light up. Are they passing that off as a feature nowadays? Certainly wasn't when it was first noticed.

People have cryed "it's too dark..buhuu...we wanna have nightvision" so they made it even more bright. It's same bright as on the site of daylight...meh
I wish we could handle that ourself

But maybe it has something to do with finding barnacles on tidally locked planets where on some locations never will be a sunlight

It depends upon the planet, some planets stay much darker than others.
Perhaps our build in light enhancers function better under certain conditions.
You just never visited a really dark planet.

To be honest I am not sure if it works as intended or not when the dark side of a planet gets brighter in certain cases.
I considered it a technical feature of my ship. I might be mistaken.

I'd prefer it if we had control over things like this like in Splintercell.
I love to use different types of vision.

I don't see this as a problem in a galaxy where we will have magic ship teleportation coming in a month.

Just close your eyes and imagine that there are magic fairies at the dark side of the planet.

What do you mean by 'dark'? I've been on plenty of pitch black planets, where only the lights from my srv made me see anything.
It seems to be properly simulated? as in planets closer to a star experience more of a swing between light/dark, where further away, the lighting by stars from the opposite side causes 'night' to be not that dark. Which is fairly well represented of RL?

Different vision modes are something I've been hoping for, for a very long time, completely agreed! It would be especially nice for a topographical wireframe to be super-imposed over a planetary (and asteroid) surface, to infer terrain-following technology. The game does this, to a certain extent, in a small map, when you're at a certain altitude or have landing gear extended, but I'd like to see it for the entire cockpit viewing area. The F-35 actually does this in the real world - pilots use it to look 'through' the skin of the plane.

A lot like the topography shown in the first two 'Alien' films.

Would also like to have the option of switching to 'Predator'-like thermal vision. Perhaps with little overload recognition outlines of ships and individual station components, 'Terminator'-style.

It's been implemented in older games, as you say. Would love to see it in here. Would have some great combat uses, too! We could see ship hulls suddenly go 'cold' when they activate the 'go silent' option. Although, primarily, it would be beautiful for navigation at dangerous proximities/altitudes.

I just assumed that the darkest place in the system is on the dark side of a planet, and while you are there, the ambient lighting of the galaxy is then that much brighter due to the lack of in system light pollution; which then seems to light up the night sky, enough so that its glow actually causes the planet surface to reflect it. You don't see it until your back there due to the light pollution from the systems star... At least that is what I assumed it was / or justified it with

It looks good to me.

The planet having very dark/light areas at a distance diminishes as you enter the dark side completely. Just watch any Apollo movie as they pass around the back of the Moon - it is not actually completely dark!

Elite handles this very well.

As for graphical artifacts/squares - that's your graphics card/drivers.

I have been on planets where the only light is from the station itself, how much light there is depends on what light sources there are around. If you are in a nebula then it's very likely you won't find a dark area anywhere. I simply see the brightening as you approach as your eyes adjusting to the available light as you move into the shadow of the planet. I don't think it's a bug myself.

'

I agree, that is more of an important issue to fix that the dark side of the planets. I have been to some planets that are pitch black in the canyons.
