Specialised legacy firmware, going nuts!

Specialised Legacy Firmware. Please help me find the stuff! INARA has it listed as very common, mission rewards, surface data scan and sign... something something that can't be read as it goes of the end of the spreadsheet.

The ED forums and the Wiki list Kini, Hip 10716, Alpha Fornacis as systems offering SLF as a reward but despite being allied with most factions I've not been offered any in two nights of searching.

Surface scanning sounds good but I've no idea what to do. What base do I head for? What's a security level? What's a terminal look like? What's a skimmer? Why doesn't it want to be my friend? Why am I staring at the rebuy screen? 😢

Easy way is to scan low security planetry settlements (Low Security +++), scan all the data points, you get Specialized legacy, cracked industrial and others. Also core terminal will give you 660k.

Much better than flying around planets in the hope of finding satellites.

Not sure about hope, as I got 21 in 20 mins as well as many other very rare mats from encoded, high grades etc....

But, whatever floats your boat and when you're blessed by RNG

I flew round earth for 2 hours and got nothing. Maybe they have upped the drop rate since I tried, was a while ago now

Hello CMDR'S,

I revive this thread because the Topic fits so good.
I was looking for Satellite USS around Earth and Capitol/New World in Achenar.
Before 2.2 this was a sure thing to get Specialized Legacy Firmwares quick.
Now, nothing! 2 hours circling the ELW's and not a single hit.
Is this still a thing? I know that they are in Data Points planetside but I always preferred the ELW USS method.
Was there a change or is it just bad luck with RNGesus?

It's both a little bad luck with RNGsus and a bit of tweaking numbers by FDev I reckon. I had the same issue with the tried and trusted surfing around a high tech system ELW. After an hour I gave up. Seems FDev want us to go raid some surface bases...ever the focus on combat activities of course [sad]

As I'm always down in LYR space at my adopted home of Hip 20019...Spocs 208 is usually where I go since it's the nearest one to me.

Sol/Earth is a decent source of satellites... or any one of many in the bubble

There are satellites stationed around many of the capital ship docks and CQC installations added in 2.2. Every time you re-enter their instance you can scan them for data, including S.L.Firmware.

Try Jefferies Port in Ugrivirii or Evans Port in Parutis for cap ship docks. Leopold-Heckman ring in Malaikudi also has one, where I've had up to four satellites spawn, all with Spec Leg Firmware.

They can be found quite easily at Encoded Emission signal sources around the Founders World (if you are Elite)

Just stay REALLY close to the planet (within Jameson"s orbit) and Encoded emissions signals will have satellites that you scan.

Specialized legacy firmware is one of the things the satellites can give you.

If you ignore all other signal sourcea and only drop in on Encoded you should find several in less than one hour

2.2 seems to be the answer to every "where the hell is X" problem. Need cash? Passenger missions. Need rare data? All the satellites moved to cap docks. Arsenic? It's all over the place at fumarole fields. Need Exquisite focus crystals? Well, 2.2 broke them. :p

It's almost as though some invisible hand in the universe were pushing us where it wanted us to go...

When the permit locks come off Barnard's Loop and all the science nerds race out there? Lock and load.
