Horizons 8 Months Horizons planet lighting still not fixed.

Your ships canopy brightens things up so you can see. This has been established since beta. Some planets are also lit up really well by a moon, nebula, or the milky way itself

That's the nebula lighting the darkside up. The transition just was bug so it wasn't smooth. You also changed graphics quality, which obviously changes lighting quality...

It's not a bug, helmets probably have some sort of night vision

I fixed it by turning SLI off
So your "fix" is to cut your performance in half?

I never changed any settings (I merely showed what settings I am running at.) Regardless of if the nebula is lighting up the dark side of the planet or not, it should be phasing in and out from pitch black to lit up all the time.

Planets darkside won't stay dark It's been 8 months for god sake., is it getting looked at ?, is it to difficult to fix ?, do you care.

Dexwel.

19 months and they still don't have instancing working...Or this forum either...
It's been more than

it took them a year to fix the astroid lods and they are still very spartan at the moment. (but nice , just not as good as alpha)

Anyway , I have seen dark sides , they are rare however.
It seems that the milky way brighten them up. I have no idea if thats realistic but I dont know.

I mean last time wear and tear functioned was in 2014 , now we get a tiny amount of dirt and some paint removed but no paint faiding or half the ship being black :(

Server work is way hardr than you might think.

Even if you have a good conection , it can suck
Even with a bad conection is can be great.

It depends on more things than just ''it being bad''
Its not perfect by any means , but its good for a p2p system that is only as good as the weakest of conections in the instance

I don't experience the 'blinking in and out' of light over a surface, as in that video, but I do get it suddenly blinking into existence at a certain altitude. It would be far more believable to see it either constant or gradually phasing in.

Also perplexed that landings are still being hyped as 'seamless', when they're anything but. :)

As for graphical artifacts/squares - that's your graphics card/drivers.

My card and drivers are just fine thank you. This issue has been in the game pretty much since Horizons was released.

This looks good to you?

I think that particular bug is partly that when you are in shadow then so is the rest of your environment around, including nearby planets and surfaces. As soon as you crest the edge of the planet back into star light, then pop, it all becomes bright. It's a bit jarring but I think it's all a bit wrapped up in how their lighting system works, which isn't the best to be honest.

For example I've been leaving a planet on a dark side and have looked up to a nearby planet which is also dark and in shadow. But it shouldn't be, light from the main star should be shinning on the face of the other planet that I'm looking at. Then as I get further away from the planet I'm leaving and break out from under it's shadow, it's like the lights are suddenly switched back on. Not just for me, which you'd expect of course, but also for the other planet I was looking at. That too suddenly gets bathed in light from the main star, when it should have been illuminated all along. It's as if the light for the entire system is calculated based on what the conditions should be for you and you alone. So if you are in light or dark then so it is for the other entities in the system. It needs a bit of a rework really.

As for the light levels on the dark side of planets, then yes I have been on some quite dark ones and others with a fair bit of ambient light. I suspect it's calculated from a lot of features like the distance from the main star and the light given off by other stars in the system as well as the ambient light from the rest of the galaxy. It does sometimes brighten up dark sides quite fast, but you have to remember that you are also very likely moving quite fast too, so that as you head down to a planet surface at speed, the ambient light reflected on the surface becomes noticeably brighter quickly too. I suspect if you made entry at sub super cruise speeds then the effect would be a lot more subtle.
