My impressions

This game is hard and unfair. I came into an asteroid field with no bounty. A player named Beerye in an eagle shot me down. I came back with just what I could afford, he shot me down again. I went to the outskirts of the field to continue getting resources. Then I saw another player named #51034 in ANOTHER EAGLE SHOOT ME DOWN. BeeRye then flew past me before this and I believe they were working together to make this game completely unfun for me. I wish there was a PvE element to this game. These mechanics favor those who only want to prey on others.

I think you just experienced some bad luck here with these people. When i play i dont see many people that shoot on sight and sometimes i can go for an hour or 2 hours with multiple people in the fed scenario and eveeryone just shoots the ai and dont even do any kill stealing.

It was nothing personal offcourse you must realise, its not that they aree trying to ruin your game they just want something else then an ai to shoot at probably. Keep practicing tactics and flight controls and you will get better and better and then you can give them a nice fight back. Reemember this is still beta, alot of mechanics have to be added still. For now just try to have as much fun as you can and test all the features. If you die just hop in your sidewinder and of you go again!

Best of luck to ya mate!

Which ship are you in? Fighting other players isn't really a good idea unless you either have a decent ship to fight in or have developed your combat skills to a point where you can compete. The basic Sidewinder you start with only has one measly pulse laser and isn't going to get you anywhere other than frustrated if you take it directly into combat as the basic modules it comes with are rubbish. They aren't even sellable at a station because they have a value of zero credits, which should give you an idea of their expected effectiveness. ;)

I would recommend you just run around trading for now, keeping out of combat until you have built up some cash to buy a decent ship with some proper weapons. If you get interdicted out of SC, just run away until you can re-engage SC; don't waste time fighting - even basic NPCs can be quite hard if you're not used to the combat model. Also, stay away from the combat zones in systems as that's where other players will be looking for chumps to turn up and be laser fodder.

Remember, the game isn't supposed to be easy at the start. If it was, there would be no feeling of achievement or progression as your skills develop over time. Elite games have always taken both time and patience to get into properly.

In short, you can't just jump in and go running around expecting to be able to take people on from the very beginning. Take your time and learn the game's flight mechanics whilst making cash from trading to upgrade your ship and modules. :)

I now how you fee, I'm new to ED got my sidewinder looked at the market and spent 950 credits and headed out to another station, being new, I wasn't sure on keys etc so didn't know how to jump etc. just before jumping I got shot down by 3 people, who I think were working together and it wasn't far from the station. I died and had started back in the station with a free sidewinder, and only 50 credits. Now what? I exited out deleted the save and started again, guess what, they killed me again. restart... managed to jump out. I've managed a couple of trade runs and now in profit of about 400 credits. Woo. though I nearly raged quit, I'm glad I didn't.

you need to find the best money earner for where you are at - asteroid fields are NOT for starters ;)

takes time

This is a good opportunity to test the bounty dynamics and how they work, will players police the area?

Is it possible to sneak into the area on silent running?

In the final game you will be able to play solo anyway...

Your correct ELITE has always been hard and somewhat unfair.

But sit back take a rest..

Try coming back and taking baby steps.
Do the single player scenarios or the first few at least. just to learn the basic controls.
1st thing I would do in multilayer is practise docking. Launch fly out request docking and land again. do this till you are comfortable..

Don't worry about crashing and burning as you get a free replacement ship

Once you have that down fly around outside the station. get used to turning fast and practise combat manoeuvres. use the station as a point of reference, when you feel a bit braver make DUMMY attacks on ships flying round the station. but DO NOT OPEN FIRE! or ram them. after you pass them try turning back onto them as fast as you can.

When you feel happy with the basics then its time to go out into the black.
actual combat takes practise and patience.

There will be a lot of PvE but this is a very early unpolished build to test basic functions of trade and combat.

Kinda wish there were coms and non random server placement. Otherwise I would be more than happy to fly with you and have a play dogfight trying to keep on each others tail.

As for trading you should be somewhat safe but the sidewinder is not really a viable trader ship due to the tiny cargo hold. That does not mean you cant do it though. Just run when intradicted from frameshift. Put full power to engines throttle to 100% and keep using boost. you should be able to get away 9/10.

They definitely do not want this game degenerating to EVE online levels. Bad Word of mouth and forums posts will kill the new player base before it even gets started.

Sorry your experience is already leaving a bad taste. Before the *******s try to post to counter your post OP they need to know what their actions do in relation to bad word of mouth and a just developing game.

EVE online has been around, barely surviving for a decade, they had a yearly month average for the first 4 years of 45k people, the last 6 have been less than 25k a month, source is CCP's own hard server reports. Now that is an established game that has super low numbers and has NEVER expanded its player base. It has shut down its big projects, let go subcontractors, and fired a bunch of employees recently. Currently they are trying to shove some very bad shooters out the door to consoles to make up some cash.

Imagine what will happen to Elite Dangerous if word of mouth gets out that this game is degenerating to EVE online play style. Bad indeed.

Every time I see a post like this, it makes me nervous that this game won't live on. It's a star trading Space-sim that has no subscription...i need this in my life.

I don't think this is much to worry about, it will eventually calm down and those that hang around for the process will start to enjoy seeing new features added and old bugs get fixed, place holders will be removed etc and this kind of discussion can be had more realistically at the standard Beta or Gamma phase

Not an Eve online player, but please dont spread such blatant bullsh*t. Eves Userbase has always been growing and has currently over 500k subscribers. 1 2
Also, if you look at actual server stats instead of wild guessing, you can clearly see that they have around 45k of concurrent users playing the game. 3 4

Came to the wrong sector mate :)

and don't forget at the moment were testing the mp side of things, final release will have some form off offline/solo online options, there is a big post on it somewhere or other.

but my advice to you is just to practice the combat and not spending any money. and there is plenty of threads/youtubes on that. :)

What a fantastic response. Well played, sir, well played.

I've been ganked by another player a few times, and it's not nice. My sympathies. It's especially aggravating when you run into a pair of players who can take you out with frustrating ease.

Here's my advice,

Restart, fly to the Eranin system. Once there, go to the Federal Distress Signal. when you arrive, pick a side as the Eranin, and go to work on the Federal fighters. Dont pick Federal, because (well, whenever I go) most players have picked Eranin too, so you seldom have to worry about other players, and the federal fighters go down faster then the Eranin sidewinders.

You'll get about 400-500 a kill (depending on how much damage you did) and can quickly make the 6k you need to get a gimbaled Pulse Laser. From there, keep going. Once you have enough to buy some Tea or coffee from the agriculture system, haul that to the Hi-tech system, and come back with Teriformers (or something like that... Terran machines....kinda thing).
