...I bet you wish that "thread merge" feature hadn't been removed now, don't ya?
Why?
Did you actually listen to the whole thing? What was talked about seemed perfectly reasonable to me. If you are talking about THAT Sandro comment, it is being taken out of context, and also Sandro wants a ship delay in the end.
It's the same old story again and again with Frontier. Engineers - Instead of making it a genuine challenge and player driven, keeping it hard to obtain upgrades but rewarding the player and making it incremental they just make it trivial. Combat - Instead of basing the strength of the AI on where you are and what the system security is or making battles more compelling, involving stations or bases they just nerf it and make it trivial. Travel - Instead of adding in content like fully fledged war zones, wreckage, pirate bases etc for you to get pulled into as you travel around, removing the tedium they just remove travel and make it trivial. This is the trend with this game. Welcome to Elite: Trivial.
FD - The problem isn't that the galaxy is too big.. It's that you made it too empty! Fill it with stuff.
They lost their "science based approach" the moment they implemented the gambling system for the RNGineers.

I listened to the entire interview as a podcast. I was certainly put off by the idea that once you accept instant transfer it doesn't really matter how it's done. To people that like to RP the in-game rules are very important. If new rules are added
that don't make sense it can be quite difficult to reconcile. It's as if all of a sudden the Star Trek universe developed the kind of transportation technology that Gary 7 used in Assignment: Earth
Just for the record:
Despite my outspoken criticism of Insta Transfer and subsequent hissy fits where I've done the forum equivalent of throwing myself on the floor crying hysterically whilst drumming my fists and feet and occasionally looking up to see if the devs were paying attention to my tear and mucus stained outbursts...I've found myself wanting to come slinking back and slide into the cockpit of my ship and fire up those thrusters...just one more time...
Yes, I'm pathetic and lack resolve. *sniffle*
BGS though is really the only way, to handle the creation of events in the procedural galaxy. There are roughly 20,000 inhabited systems around the bubble as I understand it. That's a heck of a lot of authoring, to inject events individually?
Makes me miss original fuel costs.
The BGS is boring and sterile. PP could be interesting if they actually allowed one of the powers to get overwhelmed or steamrolled.
I wish they would just wall off a small section of the galaxy where they experiment with different mission types and activities. Instead of the same tired variations of bring X amount of items from point A to B, or go to X and kill Y, how about escort a ship across space and defend it for a certain amount of time. Or navigate a predetermined course through an asteroid field before time runs out. Or have an enemy capital ship suddenly appear and participate in an attack to bring it down. I'm just spitballing here, but I think these are the kind of things that would add depth and fun to the game.
See now you have bought Star Trek up ... The Star Trek universe has changed the 'rules' so many times that its unreal, as far as believablity or realism is concerned you chose a very bad example to compare it with. And thats coming from a life long fan.
What you are doing is personally picking out something you don't like and you are now ruining for yourself because you cant get past it. I could sit down and watch any Startrek show or film and pick it apart to the point where I wasn't enjoying it. But in the end thats self defeatist.
There is plenty of stuff in ED already messes up the RP rules as you put it, but you chose to ignore those, why not this? Even more so given that its optional and you can simply just ignore it if you like.
The instant crowd won't and does not feel the need to compromise. That shuts down any hope of common ground. Really, it's like arguing with a 5 year old at the candy store.
I knew if I picked Star Trek you pick on that, but then there's really nothing you wouldn't pick on. There's no compromise with some people. And this is from a life long fan of Star Trek who saw the TOS pilot when it aired.
I had to run off for a second so I'm finishing up now:
I was referring to the episode being self-consistent in that no such beaming technology could even be imagined in the TOS era presented in that episode. If all of a sudden Scotty saw the alien beaming technology and said, "I wish we could do that" and the writers just added it to the next episode with some handwavium ST fans would have their heads explode. This is instant transfers to players that care about the lore. I'm fine with instant transfers so long as there's a way to insert the functionality into the game that is lore friendly. I suggested ship rental services but that's not the only possible solution for an immediate need of a specialized ship.
This instant transfer mechanism is magic in the Elite universe, it's like a trap door from any shipyard to another. Any "explanation" from FD is fraught with so many holes it's not possible to ignore, unless you willing desire to keep it out. It's not suspension of disbelief, it's embracing disbelief.
I also don't know why we have to keep explaining why some shortcuts make sense and can be ignored but his one can't. It's been explained dozens of times multiple threads but I'll try again if it helps you. We accept that we don't wait for repairs, cargo or refueling since FD hasn't added any game play elements that we could accomplish during those actions. Hopefully after we can walk around stations FD might add it but with the instant crowd it will just be seen as a waste of time. We accept instant escape pods because there is no mechanism to do otherwise. If there was some kind of gameplay element added after your ship was destroyed or if you could select Ironman mode I'd love that.
At this point I think it's obvious that there's no reason to even discuss this further. From the threads I've read from people wanting some realistic elements added to ship transport most have suggested some compromise alternatives. They are rejected fully and immediately by the instant "faction" and why not? You now have FD on your side, even though it's likely the majority of players feel otherwise and would be willing for some compromise.
The instant crowd won't and does not feel the need to compromise. That shuts down any hope of common ground. Really, it's like arguing with a 5 year old at the candy store.
This precisely why he is on my ignore list along with a few others who sound suspiciously similar. I recommend it, it makes the forums much more pleasant. I only wish it blocked them posting in your threads too.
u miss the original repair costs too?![]()
I miss that a lot... Not as much as the T7 toughu miss the original repair costs too?![]()
Key word here : compromise
If only we could all take a moment to just try to hear and understand what the other "side" wants, fear, enjoy so that we could all try to compromise...
What an "interesting" attitude. Please don't stop and go add me to your "ignore list of people you gave up trying to establish a balanced communication with".
Really, this is pathetic, to say the least, to my opinion.
Sad it have to come to this, really.
You can ignore Engineers altogether if you want, it's not needed to beat NPCs
