Super maneuverable large ships...

True again, but the Bismarck wasn't sunk by a single plane. :)

Nor did our ancestors kill a mammoth with a single hunter and a single spear.

I have no problem with a group of small ships killing a large ship. I have a problem with nerfing large ships to the point where they can be killed by a single small ship.

Sadly we don't have a bomber role yet :( But that's something I really wish would come :D

While not WW2, the harrowing lesson of HMS Sheffield in the Falklands does show the vulnerability of unsupported ships against single aircraft.

OK, then Stinger vs. Mi 24 Hind.

I agree that a "realistic" approach doesn't result in good gameplay, but there is no reason why a big ship shouldn't get destroyed by a small ship beside gameplay. There is no reason why a big ship shouldn't need an escort of small ships to avoid getting destroyed by a single small ship - again, beside gameplay.

Yup, that's why I'm really excited for 2.2 :)

Little fighter ships to keep small ships of your back :D

The Sheffield had no shields ;)

That's actually a good point why small ships should be a serious threat to big ships. Otherwise the big ship wouldn't need a fighter. ;)

In groups they are a serious threat for big ships. Alone not. They simply don't have the damage output to be serious threat alone (at least not against combatfitted large ships).

from ground, from carriers.. small torpedo-boats.. real life no place for magic.

Already out dated at this time but still a fighter.
Anyway thanks for confirming the point, numerous small strike fighters sinked it.
Don't straw man, we are talking of ships vs ships all with substantial tonnage and autonomy : empty, the Cobra is 180T, the Clipper 400T and the Corvette 900T.
So, if you really want this analogy we shall see how "heavy" ships handle vs small strike crafts in Guardians.

"Maneuverable" is a very vague term to me.

Which is more maneuverable ? Vette or Conda ?
If you drive enough both of these you will find Conda has higher pitch acceleration while Vette has higher maximum pitch.
How about FAS?
It has absolutely insane low speed turning capability but lack stability at high speed turning.
Even when we say smaller ships have better "maneuverability" it is very difficult to judge.
Some ships tend to drift because lat/vert thrusters are way less powerful than main thruster (look at Cutter)
Some ships has insane lat/vert thrust to keep it very stable at FA.

The only large ship that can become more manouvrable than a smaller ship is the Corvette with modified drives. :)

I have to agree with this statement, partially. DD G5 does a great job on the corvette putting her above medium ships, maneuverability wise. Small ship are still more nimble.

It actually does not matter unless using fixed weapons or keep some distance, gimbal and turrets will only turn smaller ships into Matrix[wacky]

yeah 2 choices 1) OP like in gamescom stream ( why then DBS or Eagle have less firepower? ) 2) they useless, like DBS and Eagle now.

i dont really get it why you comparing Elite ships to Sea ships? weight? Swim or Flight model? Cocpit?

There is more thing similar to planes than ships.

Additionally the thrusters on the back could be able to reverse thrust like plane engines.

Airplane engines don't provide reverse thrust in the manner we see in Elite. In Elite, this whole "fly backwards @ 350/sec" thing is simply "Because Magic Engines."

And it completely fraks up combat potential.

I have turreted lasers and gimballed MC.
Always forget Vette has beams in the belly while the other two have on the top.
But 90 deg gun arc is so lazy-friendly:D

True, true. If only we can fire and unfire the turrets, I would've fitted her with turrets and stay stationary, drink some tea and wait for the enemies to die :D

Because water helps simulates low gravity and many things that go with it like inertia (note i didn't say copy, only simulate).
Even if it is far from being accurate it is one the closest thing you can have to "space" on earth and certainly the most common.

I've honestly never seen a big ship flying backwards with 350m/s.

That might happen on some occasions with FA off but not under regular circumstances.

In space, there are no speed limits. ED has that for some reason.

You know nothing of orbital physics then. There are many speed limits in space, going too fast or too slow will send you cannoning into space or burning to the ground. The "max speed" in elite isn't really the max speed, it's the maximum g-force/centrifugal-force imbalance a ship can counteract without quickly leaving the area of interest or more simply the maximum difference in speed you can maintain from you orbital velocity.

No ship in Elite should be able to fly Backwards, faster than any ship can fly Forwards.

And that is certainly currently possible.

Reverse thrust should be capped at 50 - 100/sec.

Erm - yes it is, and it's nothing to do with orbital physics. It's an artificially-created limit, intended to diversify ship abilities.

But it's not just about the Clipper though?

What about people have been saying about fast turning corvettes, after upgrades..? Just as bad and game breaking.

It is not game breaking. It is called an upgrade for a reason. The upgraded corvette turns almost as good as an unmodified A rated FDL. But it has much higher inertia to overcome and has a higher tendency to drift.

And upgraded small ships allow you to do the sort of acrobatics that you would only see from professional pilots using specially designed aircraft at airshows.

Everything is better with engineer upgrades. Does not mean it is game breaking
