Why do we want to be friends with the aliens?

I like them already.

We do that. (North Korea, USA). And your point is...?

That's what they'll say...

I'm curious as to what system of values in the entire human history has elevated humans to this level so quickly other than a Judaeo, Christian democracy?

I don't know about you guys but I'm looking forward to sitting in a hub somewhere talking to some new guys about the great war between our race and the -insert catchy mega alien beatbox name- and how as we stomped the ever loving crap out of whom ever. and their dying words are that they were running from -insert even badder of badassness alien name that when uttered makes a little poop come out- and that we're most definitely next.
I'm looking forward to these animals cleaning my house

Regarding the ignorance and hatred in this 1% of idiots spoiling the whole game, the Thargoids - if they ever appear - will run for their lives.

A Thargoid sympathizer. monitor his communications and travel. Research his family and friend's background. Create profiles of potential traitors. Too much is at stake.

I'd play along, I may get a reward for doing so.

Besides, we all saw how the UA probe shut down the players ship when he scanned it. Whos to say any alien would give us a chance to fight in the first place.

Rather have peace.

I also have a lot of ammonia worlds book marked. Wonder what I'd get from them, if I hand over their locations.

Peace of mind when we launch at super cruise speeds mass drivers and nuclear fusion bombs. If they don't work the egg heads acroos the Empire and federation can come up with a bacterium or Virus that will finish their home worlds.

I actually think that, as in The Human Bubble, alien civilisation may be factional across huge distances of their sector(s) of habitiation.

This may allow for:

1. Potential trading between Humans and some of the less warlike and more commercially-minded Hemorrhoid factions.
2. Cross-species sporadic conflicts based on factionalism.
3. All out war promising the joy of Mutually Assured Destruction where looking at a Hemorrhoid vessel or scanning is a cue for them to vapourise you (or at least try to).

Either that or they're Daleks and they just like wrecking stuff for fun.....

Damn Ninjas do it again.

It depends on what they look like.
If they look like big ugly slimy bugs, then I want to vaporize them.
If not, then maybe we can be friends... we'll see.

If we can understand their language it might best to gauge their society and prop up dissidents within their sphere. Provide resources and intel to their internal malcontents. Make promises to fringe factions, that we will obviously betray. they might not be unified and be more fragmented than we are.

What ever outcome we must prepare for an extinction level event.

Remember in these situations it is important that we learn their language not the other way round.

That way we can have secret conversations easily and they can't.

That way, when they try to steal our precious cargoes, we can tell them to "get bent" in their own language.

Because if America has shown us anything, war make things much worse for everyone.
Yep; that seems like pretty much it..........

Ha ha peace. Yea, I wanna play a game where everyone gets along and every day is happy and uneventful. Oh wait, I totally don't want to play that game because it is utterly boring.

Come and get me aliens!! I have 8 hardpoints that can't wait to meet you!

In all seriousness, I think a race of aliens with their own "bubble" that we can interact with on a non-violent level (at least some of the time) has a lot more gameplay potential than just straight up violent conflict with the buggers. We already have ample opportunity for combat with pirates who demand all of our tasty cargo; I'd like to see tech/missions/trade/exploration opportunities arise from this.

.
There's a lot of truth to this. Just one more ship type to shoot is cheap and boring, there's so much more potential in meeting an alien race when not being bent on just shooting each other.
.
Edit: and for those who just value shooting stuff and nothing else, imagine the potential of finding that an alien race also is not one big collective but actually has internal struggles and has use for outside force... and might reward people with exotic weapons and equipment.
