For all practical purposes Game time and GMT are identical. How FD decide to offeset in-game planetary positions and rotations between IRL 2016 galaxey and IGL 3302 galaxey is -for all intents and purposes - irrelevant in the original situation. GMT is GMT galaxey/solar system/planetary/object location and rotation are something entirely different.

This is why I push to day in game time is in game time and NOT connected to a real world time zone so there is no confusion, clarify on the matter of times.
Just the same as to avoid all those annoying threads about people getting upset game time doesn't shift with their local day light savings.

Is that time in game or a particular realworld time zone?

In game time.
Messages and missions and CG in game always reference in game time and a universal standard clock.

Umm.. i really havent followed whats going on since this thread is making my brain melt... :D

But what are we expecting happening today? I recon we dont see any aliens though instead of just a bunch of new clues..
I guess i have to go and see myself to that system mentioned at 2100 IGT. That is, if that is IGT...

we're expecting to meet someone, or string of people, that will lead us to evidence of alien life. No, we won't be fighting off a Thargoid base-star in a wing. Like the Barnacles, there will be a POI/Crashed ship/Wreckage. Eventually. If the gankers don't blow up our contacts first.

Seems to be an awful lot of speculation on the first posts these days ;)

Bullet 1 is very strong.
Bullet 2 is pretty strong.
Bullet 3 is weak and represents a theory.
And where the hell did white come from?

Sorry, if we're demanding that people read the first page as gospel then we can't put up pet theories.

actually i have to agree. FP should be facts only; with a section for 'speculation'.

OK <gets out the plastic brain>

For those harking on about GMT and not GMT in game...
the Earths rotation is not exactly 24 hours. it is a few minutes longer than 24 hours. Overall the difference is an increase of aproximately 1.5 hours per year more rotation than the 24 hour clock suggests. The in game YEAR is 3302 which is 1286 years in the future. Using 1.5 hour deviation that's a change in rotational position of some 1929 hours (aprox) or 80 days and 9 hours deviation in rotational location between Earth of today and earth of 3302. The Important number is 9 hours. Wherever the sun is right now for you it will be in the same location 9 hours away from now in 3302.

As I said, GMT is GMT. In game planetary location Vs IRL planetary location is something completely different.

But just in case there were Thargoids there, we know one simple trick (and you don't have to pay me) to finish off every mother ship:

when daylight savings ends, UK time will be the same as in-game UTC time. Which is GMT (cos GMT is unaffected by daylight savings, it is a constant). Doesn't matter what happens in game, its what happens in the Cambridge offices and the server farm :p

as for the players doing PVP in Cail and Apademak, they got me 3 times, but I put up a fight each time (granted a dbx is no match for an FDL - but at least I nearly got his shields down in the process!) after a few good fights, they left me alone to fly about in both systems. Afterwards the group of us at the station had a stock sidewinder battle at Cail Autocracy for a while, and then everyone went on their way.

Point being, if you want to have some fun while we wait, dive in on open and see what you get yourself into - well aware of potentially rebuying, or just stick with a PG or Solo for the time being. PVP is inevitable on open, either expect it and have some fun with it, or just avoid it all together. We should all know by now that big events bring hungry CMDR's waiting to spill blood, shouldn't be a surprise any more. Just have fun with it, IF you don't mind potentially rebuying. Luckily my DBX is only 500k to rebuy, haha, and it's also been months since I've seen other players (been out in the depths for too long) so you could say it was oddly refreshing to get my ship destroyed.

Don't want to see anybody get robbed of their experience, we all should enjoy it one way or another (open or solo) - let's just keep our fingers crossed that it will be a global event, and not tied to one instance or only open. We're all doing this for fun in the end, so do whatever you need to do so it stays fun for you :D

Not trying to ruffle any feathers, just wanted to share my experience encountering these players tonight.

on an unrelated note, a buddy of mine asked me what the hunt was all about and if he should head this way. Do we know, or is it safe to assume this will be open for all players? He doesn't have Horizons, so I don't want to have him make the trek down if it'll be a dead end for him at some point.

unknown at this point. We know one of the clues we had to find was on a planet base, but the rest (so far) has been in regular space. He can come along, be part of it anyway, it's eyes we need at this point.

Sounds good, that was my assumption as well.

I've said this upthread, but it still seems relevant.

We are looking for a Red ship with a cargo of Fish.

Red herring anyone?

Quite a few people have made that joke/assumption and many have seen it, I think people get the picture by now :p

Most people are focused on the Cobra anyway from what it seems, the only reason people are heading to Cail now is for something to do at 10:00 until everyone goes to Apademak at 21:00 :)
