Anyone else hate engineers

How can FD think this would be fun to do?

You spend weeks unlocking engineers, then more weeks getting the resources you need for upgrades then roll the dice and hope you get lucky. Then if you get lucky you then need to spend even more time getting the rarer resources to get the next round of upgrades, starting to get tedious to say the least.

Then we come to combat, 99% of all hostile ships seems to have every upgrade possible for their ship meaning you can spend ages killing them (or end up doing what I do most of the time) and boost away and leave them behind.

And FD thinks this would be fun to do?

Well I'm not having fun in engineers FD!!!![down]

Hate... no. But I find myself bored just by taking a look at requirements for unlocking, let alone leveling. Needless to say, all I've got out of them were FSD upgrades for my Asp explorer and Conda trader.

I refuse to engage with the engineers gameplay until I can store materials/resources etc

Engineers is a good idea that just hasn't been properly thought through imho, a few small changes and it will be fine.

I thoroughly enjoyed unlocking the Engineers (and it was the hard way at the time) and now that I have the 15 of them unlocked, I enjoyed upgrading a ship from time to time. I just brought a fully upgrade FdL to Jaques and I like it very much. Took me very little time to upgrade everything at grade 5, maybe 2 days.

The only thing you cannot store are commodities. And most of them can be bought on the markets anyway.

First I hated them becouse they were hard to do.

Then Frontier made it easy, I still hated it becouse people who did engineering got an advantage over me.

Still later I got over my shadow and tried the sweet fruit of engineered modules, and damn it, I started to like it.

So I travelled the path from a non-believer to a converted follower of the way of the engineers.

The only thing I still hate is thermal shock/cascade especially in combination with packhounds and I refrain from using this.

Also the way to gain rep is silly. If it just was possibel to donate materials to the engineers to gain rep instead of the useless clicking through the process of making a upgrade and discarding it making it and discarding it - I would embrace the engineers now and be happy.

I like how they are now!!

I enjoy the small adventures when I have to gather some special commodities. Upgrading my ship with few tweaks is awesome. It really feels im making my millenium falcon.

I like that there is this longer aim in game now. Maybe someday my ship is grade5 a-fitted but I dont feel hurrying.

Just relax guys and stop unnecessary whining.

No they do not.

Only Deadly and elite NPCs have engineers upgrades.

As to the 'weeks'.... Level 1 upgrades tend to only require a single lump of something common!

I dont hate them at all, the only thing missing is storage for engineer-commoditys even if ti were only on engineer bases i would be happy about it.

Thats the only thing annoying about engineers right now..i do some missions and my cargo fills up with commoditys for engineers...either i sell them or fly around the engineers and trying to make them worth while.

I like the concept of the engineers a lot.

But still, even after 2.1.05, I find it extremely dull to gather stuff.
To Hell with it.

Despite some flaws, I've really enjoyed Engineers. It got me to do a lot of things I would not have done otherwise, and increased my knowledge of the game. Plus my modded ships are awesome. So no, I don't hate it at all.

It has become a lot easier since .5
You have to decide for yourself whether it's worth it for what you think you need.

You think it is tuff now??????

Wait till you have to find the Modular Terminals for Marco!!!!!

That will drive you round the flippin bend...... :(

I was fine with it until they changed the drop rates again. Before I left for Jacques a few weeks ago I was able to get Chemical Manipulators within a day's grind. I wasted three days without success again this week. DAYS.
It gets old. "Oh look, a USS. I will... nevermind that is a blahblah. Not what I need. Oh! This one is though!" And then it is chemical everything EXCEPT manipulators.

The best part? You can do Trade Missions that give all the magnetic emitter coils you could ever want. Every time FD gets a chance to made the game more connected without being a monotonous grind they immediately turn about back into the grind.

What I've learned since Horizons is don't Explore unless it is for hobby. Definitely keep away from 'story events' because they take three months to unfold. In the mean time you wasted all of your time you could have been improving your ship(s) or playing with friends. Don't do Engineers unless it is for FDS Increase, and then ask your friends what they want to do for the day because that's where the game's at. Return to the Engineers only where necessary to game with your friends.

Hate it? No, not anymore anyway.

However it is extremely boring... FD made something amazing with the special off-the-shelf modules, that is to say performance thrusters, bi-weaves... To a lesser extent the PP modules.

If I were designing the Engineers mechanic, I would have kept the best possible modules reserved for the grind... But I would also have put in a lot more off-the-shelf modules unique to various engineers, such as the thrusters. Of course they would have their own specific drawbacks, cost a fortune (guaranteed results for mega-bucks, providing a much needed credit sink), and it would give an additional reason to unlock engineers, whilst removing a significant grind for those who don't like the material hunt.

I actually like it. I'm someone who likes a goal and engineers has given me new things to work towards.

It's got me trying new things like base assaults, wake scanning, murder of traders etc... Which have been fun and grindy in equal measure.

And I also like the reward, I now have a beefy clipper with a jump range of 26ly than can boost to 580m/s, gotta be the fastest big ship in the galaxy, and due to the insane amount of work to get that grade V truster from Palin I have a real sense of accomplishment. Can't wait to annoy pirates at the next trade CG by running away!
