Last night I considered myself unfortunate to have to see this event unfold from the sidelines (post fact) as I knew RL would interfere. Seeing how the events unfolded (in retrospect) I am actually glad I wasn't there. I would have gotten absolutely nothing out of it, which made reading about it here actually a better experience. That's a real let-down, especially for the people who spent hours waiting for "something cool" to happen.
This was a failure on so many levels, and I hope FDev takes this and learns from it. Right now it's "Lesson Identified." The next such event will show whether it's "Lesson Learned."

Our first clue of a failure should have been yesterday's coded messages. They contained some information, but lacked all information needed to solve the riddle. That is an obvious clue that FDev didn't line it up correctly. The sudden appearance of a CG that gives that important information today, shows that they screwed it up.
Now, placing it as an Open-only event compounded the issue, and FDev should already know what happens in Open when you give players a specific spot to converge. In come the KOS-players (They are not griefers by definition, even though some disagree with the strict griefer-definition out there, and they are not PvP'ers. So KOS is the only correct term for them imo.) That's not new to anyone, and definetely not FDev. Now it shouldn't be new to us either, but this is not really a group known for its battle prowess. So, this ended up being a thinking man's game forced into the realms of the juveniles who think ED is a "shoot'em up and win" game.
It also excluded a huge player base that for one reason or another don't play in Open. And I haven't even touched on the instancing issues the game has with its P2P setup.
Basically, FDev hyped a "huge event" which ended up being "you can solve a few coded messages, but count yourself lucky if you get to experience anything special interaction-wise in the game".

I for one am disappointed...truly. And I wasn't even there to experience it :(

Finally, watching it from the sidelines was also a nightmare. This thread suddenly got bogged down by people I have never seen post here before, working on "new messages" they found and trying to solve them. Or people who are just out there to troll. Luckily for me, some of the latter group I already have in my little ignore filter. The former group though...where the F%&¤ did you come from and where did you learn to interact with others on forums? You're acting like 9 year olds with the attention span of a cricket on meth. Next time you enter a thread and think about posting in it; go back a few pages, see what people are discussing, check the OP for any clues you may have missed, and then wait a bit to see where the conversation is going. Don't just jump in with both feet and expect people to listen to you, especially when you are a day late! You have opened your mouthes and removed all doubt. You really shouldn't, for your own benefit!

For all the riddlesolvers out there; You are doing an awesome job! I am amazed at how fast these coded messages are solved. You are incredible. Keep that up, regardless of the negativity from me or others. It's not directed at you. I wish what you do would rub off on others; unfortunately that's too much to be expected I guess. Following this thread and what you do, I feel like I am walking in the footsteps of giants. Thank you for that experience!

Finally, I am unable to meet up with an Explorer, KOS-players, instancing issues, and perhaps another CG in about an hour, but good luck to those of you that do. I will follow the events as best I can, and maybe join on the final known event this evening. How the 3pm event unfolds will give me the information I need to make a sound decision on whether it's worth it or not to me ;)

TL;DR: Lots of screwups this last day or so, at no fault of the Canonn group who do an amazing job. I may be there for the event this evening, I may not :)

i dont get it...

so the cg was just a help to solve the last riddle wich was missing yesterday, so that we dont miss the explorer at 3pm.
then we should still care about kohl's hint and search for the M-class star and deliver him narcotics???

whats the deal now?

Ok... I have read the first page, but I'm more than a little confuzzled still - since last night we seem to have had Kohl turn up ... but no bounty hunter yet - I think ?
I'll be logging on in a bit - we still expecting action in Apademak and Cain ?

Anyone turning up to cause trouble - beware, actions have consequences.
You keep poking the sleeping bear it might wake up, pve players can interdict pvp players all day long and run away without offering a fight - I for one have never fought a fair fight in my life and dont intend to start now.

Too bad you can't disable self destruct subsystem of a player ... so he/she has to pay alot and wait for R&R PVE team to take a looooooong tiiiime to arrive and repair the ship.

Really?
In game time is two hours prior to my local time,
being in germany gmt+1.
There is a difference i guess.
UTC = GMT-1

No I don't think thats quite right because of Daylight Saving Time (DST) known as British Summer Time (BST) in UK which is UTC/GMT +1 hour

You are CET (UTC+1) + 1 hour DST in Germany and living in Finland (EET = UTC +2) +1 DST I am 3 hours ahead of Server Time but only 2 hours ahead of current UK time...

edit: Ninja'd by Lord Zoltan who clearly had a time zone all of his own ;-)

FD fd can someone confirm the time please this is getting silly and i think we are getting close to breaking the internet. good luck commanders im off to my dads 74 birthday to get drunk. have a great time id love to be involved but i will catch up tomorrow.

fly safe o7

Update: It's HIP 20586, by the way. Ok so after flying around for several hours checking every USS with no results, I finally realized I hadn't actually Disco-scanned the system (yes, I AM that idiot). When I did, I got a new message leading me to HIP 20586 AB 1 B, a rocky world. When I try to land, I get a "Body Exclusion Zone Hit" message. Any ideas?

Yes. The body exclusion zone is removed when you play OPEN.

So?
So WHAT?
Why would I care what they do? Why does that have any bearing on my fun? Why are you wasting time fantasising about these people? Don't give it a second thought. I don't care if they are fat and in their mom's basement, or bored multi-billionaires, tbh.

Big deal: I lose a collection of pixels, which I replace with no real personal impact on myself, respawning instantly at a station thirty seconds away. I have literally stood up and gone to make a cup of tea *while* gunned down to PKs in other games, because I cared so little. It only sucks if you give two ****s about these people, and I don't!

Maybe I would care slightly if I had exploration data, or an expensive rebuy, but in this case we are not going to lose anything more than a couple of minutes of time.

Bingo - we have a winner - and what's worse for them is they care, so if you invconvenience them for even a few minutes it does actually ironically cause them some grief :p

Well as said previously you may not care but i do as do a lot of fellow pilots in the community.

And many OTHER pilots in the community either don't mind or are actively okay with it.

we are not here to pvp. we do not want to be forced into a gameplay style where we have to deal with pvp'r. it isnt fair,

You are not 'forced' into it. You never have to go anywhere near the pvp, even in open. However, as with all good risk/reward structures, you do have to be willing to put more on the line to earn the more interesting rewards.

Next time i suggest the clues and the puzzles which the geeks like me love to do stay separate from the pvp, fighting, politics in ANY event.

Being a geek and enjoy combat are not mutually exclusive. I am both.

I'm not shooting you down, I'm just trying to show that you can't make such demands because your views, even when shared by many, are not representative of the community as a whole.

I'm sorry but I think you'll find GMT stands for Generally More Tea.
We're currently in BST which stands for Bring Sausages Too - for the barbecue that we generally have during the short Summer. ;)

But just so we are all happy bunnies:

1500hrs = 3pm
3pm GMT = 4pm BST
3pm GMT = 5pm CEST/MESZ

And since UTC is calculated with Longitude Zero passing through Greenwich in London, 3pm GMT = 3pm UTC. :D

At a guess each of the people in the decoded messages (trader, explorer, etc) will probably drop us hints about a system we go to to find a bounty hunter or go to in order to find more clues about a bounty hunter or this group that have found something so super awesomesauce they could not put it into words.

The explorer will no doubt follow the same MO as trady McFish boy, but fish boy told us one of his crew is a liar so we need to rattle our braincases to solve the overall cryptic inferences into something a little more absolute location wise, then go there and do something or find something, or all be eaten by thargoids.

while I'm prevented from the main timeline in the story, I dont know what to do.. either:
- submit a Galnet submission about how Raisa got lost in oblivion and something mysterious happened to her..
- submit a Community Goal to provide exploration data to help finding her.
- both..
