So according to a Dev there is now in game content that is available in open only, the only reason I know of this is due to another forum post linking to the comment, had I been following the hunt in solo or group would I have been notified that I needed to be open for any particular stage or would I have been left hunting in the dark with no possible progress?

Not sure if the whole open only aspect is a good thing or not and I am sure there will be plenty of differing viewpoints on it but the fact that it goes against the whole play your own way is a bit off, however please can somebody confirm that a player is notified that they need to be in open when necessary rather than being left in the dark?

You can't interact with NPC's so FDev's needed to present a cmdr to give the next clue on the hunt.
Meeting an other cmdr requires to fly in open.
That's all, this makes sense but it turned out to a grind-fest since all sorts of griefers, gankers, killers and biowaste were already floating around there just waitjng for some easy meat for their guns.

Sounds like a pretty easy fix, no need for Open only. Open, Private, Solo is only a difference in instancing. We're all connected regardless of mode, and I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard for an official FDev 'CMDR' to instance with anyone regardless of mode.

Open only was in this case because the clues came from FDev controlled accounts.

Since they couldn't join any private group without blowing their cover, let alone joining you in Solo, they did it in open.

Get. Over. It.

Get over what? I asked a question as to whether a solo or group player would be notified that they needed to be in open, perhaps somebody would like to answer it instead of reading far more into than what was posted.

FD are trying out different forms of story delivery. It's interesting I think, although we all know what the inevitable occurrence will be given certain elements of the community - so alright guys; who ganked the FDev controlled CMDR and when did it happen? ;)

Open only content. I can dig that.

1 shot kill big ass Thargoid Motherboats in Open only. The Brave Open CMDRs will just have time to think: "Jeebus Cripes! That is one big ..." and then they'll rebuy. Real hardcore nose to the pavement stuff only real players like them can appreciate.

The carebears and other cowardly CMDRs hiding in Solo/PG get a more docile and escapable batch of alien buggers.

And still no-one has addressed the OP's point: I agree OP there should at least be a signal of some kind to tell cmdrs its open only content so they don't bother looking in other modes.

That FDEV CMDR should just grab one of his development accounts with unlimited shields and super weapons next time and blow the crap out of offending griefer

The open only content in this case makes sense. If you're to interact with an FD CMDR, I don't see how else it can be accomplished.

If people aren't wanting to partake in this in open, how about letting the open people take care of this and go exploring in group/solo? I'm a few hundred lys south of Jaques right now and in a huge cluster of Neutron Stars. There's a cg at Jaques to gather exploration data that'll end on Sep 1. Come join me and wait for the information to pop up on the forums. In the mean time, make 100m or so collecting data.

You can put your name on quite a few stars out here. Nobody seems to be interested in scanning the yellow and red dwarf stars that are in the neutron fields. Lots of opportunities out here. :)
