UAs, Barnacles and other mysteries Thread 8 - The Canonn

The presentation of the mystery is fine. The problem is the execution for many people.

+1 - and i may add:

FD set the expectations way too high. This "event" (this does not even qualify as an "event") was hyped on all channels, brute force forward. And now, 9 hours into it (assuming that 10:00 was the start), still kind of nothing, but more clues, and badly executed interactions. I for myself played in open, and did not encounter anybody related to this.

Due to the Video-interferences in the "Braben-Interviews" everybody expected something, something at least, but not this .... whatever that should be.

I'm greatly dissapointed, and i'm usually one of the fanboys of FD.

Sad thing is, FD did not execute anything, it seems they did not even try, and overhelmed themselves by the burden of the expectations they raised themselves.

FD go into a corner and shame yourself for now.

The 'latitude 34' in Dillon's message...

Is it talking about the coordinate on the planet or the system in galactic coordinates?

If you come to Massagetae be prepared to face 2 PvP squads who are in "truce" and only killing other players. CMDR Delmonte just fallen a victim to this plague ;(

I noted before take-off that my contact list included 5 system vessels, a FDL and 4 heat sinks! [big grin]

im still gonna says that our red hering is dillon

binarly pulsar is a bit far feched also he wants tobacco
so he might be saying false information till he gets his stuff

I second that because of the binary pulsar.
I don't see how this could be in ED. My Knowledge of such is very limited but shouldn't they rotate on each other extremly fast? And if there were one such close enough to us we shoudl have been able to measured the gravity waves a lot sooner already.
Heck if there is one in ED let me know I want to see it!

No I get what it's saying but I thought that WAS the 9pm hint. If not then that's my mistake and I'm less bothered by the Pic Tok incident.

I guess I got mixed up somewhere along the way with this topic just churning lately.

That's what we tought yesterday, yes, and perhaps is still true that Granger will come at 21 in Apademak.
But, right now, I can only take what we already know, and Dillon was in Apademak at 15.

What is left:

  • A Cobra is due to arrive at 21.00
  • Granger doesn't carry cargo. He hangs around Apademak.

No, not at all, this is exactly was I was expecting, and I love it. Just that the current game state is forcing me to spectate and not participate. I've been saying to lower the expectations for two or three days now, but even nailing it I can't enjoy it.

Ok well saltiness and mis-managedness aside, I still want to solve this damn thing! So let's get to work. Here's what we know so far:

Kohl is a trader, he flies a t9 to Cail and will arrive at 10. He was carrying "fish" (UAs?) during the "incident".
Dillon never carries cargo.
Someone who wasn't carrying cargo will arrive at Apedemak at (no time given)
The ASP is yellow.
A Cobra is due to arrive at 21:00
"Granger doesn't carry cargo - he hangs around Apedemak"

So first off, Kohl arrived and gave a clue "One of my friends always lies, the system has a single M-Class star"
He also promised a second clue in exchange for narcotics but met a tragic end. I AM GOING TO ASSUME that the CG message is what Kohl would have told us had he not died before getting his drugs. This is in no way confirmed, but it seems the most like assumption to me.

The second message was "The explorer was last seen in Pic Tok, he returns each day at 3PM GMT".

So, what happens next? Dillon is found in APEDEMAK, not Pic Tok. I don't know what ship Dillon was flying unfortunately and it's rather important that we figure that out ASaP. Dillon gave several clues.
First they mention "Granger and his stupid games" So it seems safe to assume that Granger is the leader of this little group and the one who gave the messages in the Pleiades on Saturday.
Second, "I visited a rocky planet at latitude 34 near binary pulsars"
Finally, Dillon asks to be delivered Tobacco at McMullen Vision for another clue.

Based on the fact that a) there are no pulsars modeling in E: D and b) there's nobody at McMullen Vision looking for Tobacco, it's somewhat safe to assume that Dillon is the liar that Kohl was talking about. Thus the system in question has a single M-Class star, not a pair of pulsars.

So what do we need to figure out?

Where is this system in question?
What ship was Dillon flying? (If dillon is in the ASP then that mean Granger, the leader, is flying the Cobra that is set to arrive in Apedemak at 21:00"
Also, we should probably continue looking for Dillon to re-appear near McMullen Vision and ask for some tobacco.

Anyway that's all I got. Hopefully someone else hasn't done the same thing but better by the time I post this :p

There's nothing poorly managed about this at all.
If you don't see that this is poorly managed, you need to put on a different pair of shades. It is, period.

We already knew the actual alien stuff was coming in 2.2 and this one is just the teaser they didn't explicitly show at gamescom.
This has nothing to do with meeting aliens. If someone believes they will meet aliens today, or sometime the next few weeks, they haven't been paying attention.
It has to do with how FDev has handled themselves since the first message was placed on a News Board yesterday.

This is the best a game company can do without shoving a heavily scripted and crafted story down everyone's throat.
If this is the best a game company can do, I am perplexed at the state of the gaming industry.

I agree about PIc Tok being a red herring: the CG text said "last seen in Pic Tok", but we knew he'd arrive in Apademak from yesterday's hints...
But we have to admit some confusion was unavoidable right now... really...
There is no doubt that the text says "last seen in". I am however disappointed that FDev took the time to scramble an ad-hoc CG to deliver a message that was deliberatly misguiding. Disappointed.

Dillon said: "I visited a rocky planet at latitude 34 near binary pulsars" and Kohl said "One of my friends always lies. The system has a single Class-M star". As Dillon is probably lying about the system having binary pulsars, let's instead assume the system has a single class-M star.

Now, we've previously received a clue about the explorer (Dillon): "The explorer was last seen in system Pic Tok". Why mention that system name in the clues unless it's important? Turns out that Pic Tok happens to have an M-class star and a single rocky planet. Perhaps that planet warrants a closer look at latitude 34.

So, what next. Where do I need to be, when do I need to be there, who am I looking for and what are they flying?

This thread is moving SOOO fast that less than 10 minutes ago I was looking to spot Granger in Apademak at 2100 and now I'm not even convinced I should be in the Milky Way!!!

Nice recap.
But we know that Granger hangs around Apademak, and that a Cobra will arrive at 21:00.
So we can still get him ;) Where? Well...

How very Sean Murray of them... Seems to be a trend these days. Perhaps its an attempt to appeal to all the No Mans Sky ship jumpers.

But if you knew how this would more or less pan out (I did too), then why didn't you expect the chance that you might not experience the exact interaction first hand?

This was bound to be mostly played outside of the game, solving riddles and finding waypoints. What made you think this would all play out in game and everybody was individually capable of solving it without getting outside of the game? This never happened with any of the mysteries, why this one?
