There goes any meaning to any part of the economy in the game, along with any sense of value to the achievements of those who have been playing over the past two years.
Eh, if Seeking Luxuries, Wing Teleportation, Capship Turret Snoozing, Powerplay Bonus Synergy, Robigo/Ceos/Sothis mode switching, Dangerous Games Gem Fountain, Powerplay Expansion Bug Snoozing, or all the other ways to earn money considerably more rapidly than Frontier originally intended didn't already break that, then one CG which gave a few hundred commanders a few hundred million credits isn't going to either. I'm not even sure it's the biggest easy money giveaway either, in terms of total credits.
And for what it's worth, I didn't participate in this CG (or any of the other fast money methods I've named above), currently have around 375 million in assets, and don't feel in the slightest that the existence of those fast money methods devalues anything I've done.
All in all it
is probably for the best that Frontier allowed themselves to be talked out of offering credits in exchange for real money, though. I can't imagine that would be getting many takers nowadays...
