A little bit of Elite heaven...

Around 22:00 this evening it all seemed to come together nicely. I played for around an hour and a half with no disappearing stations, docking timeouts, supercruise hangs or any of the glitches that I've come to associate with network issues. I made some reasonably profitable runs and started to get to grips with using unorthodox supercruise trajectories. I love this game...

So, a big thank you to everyone who went to bed early. I appreciate it! ;)

Anyway, it's looking like the core of the game so far is reasonable stable but isn't scaling well, network wise. Hopefully, the hammering we've given the system this weekend will have generated enough data so that the devs can squash the worst of the network bugs and get it scaling efficiently.

Yeah, I did quite a few trade runs, got myself about 15k saved up. I started to get the hang of it. I dont know where today went.

Not many real issues of note. A few freezes, Occasional stutter and lag, thats been about it. Once I had to keep requesting docking clearance for a good 15 mins, not sure if it was a bug or just busy traffic.

Supercruise - I'm over shooting all the time. I end up being further away than where I started just on the opposite side :)

Out of all the game so far I think supercruise needs the most work. Probably because it was added late as a player request.

How did people get anywhere before without it? it would have took years.

Yeah, great so far though. And the good news is its only going to get better.

It really seems to be worth learning how to use supercruise effectively. Bring the throttle back to just above the blue zone once you're under 90 ls away from your destination and correct for drift on your final approach. Think about your route to avoid any gravity wells by a wide berth. Sometimes a longer distance can be covered more quickly than a shorter one if you're not having your velocity dragged down by nearby masses. It also seems that some types of route are less prone to interdiction than others. A nice bonus for those entertaining the notion of a smuggling career.

Their is an art to the Supercruise if you get it just so :), you can ride the limit all the way in finishing in a spiral to (in reverse) bleed of speed off, you can really reduce the "cruise" time. and is damn good fun. am loving it at the Moment :)

Ps: will have to record some 'Cruises tonight :)

Yes, yesterday (Sunday) gameplay was smooth. I didn't experience any bugs, except the temporary freeze when exiting supercruise.
I loved the feeling of an "alive" universe with all the spacecraft entering and leaving the stations!

Not sure if it was better because of lower number of players or the servers were tuned? Or maybe everybody was done downloading the new release? :)

I must admit I haven't had that many issues yet. Station disappeared three times. Only once while docked which was a game-breaker, the other two times I was just flying around, either looking for my pad or trying to land, and managed to get out of the way before it reappeared.

A couple of game crashes. But for a BETA release I think it is looking fantastic and working really well. Can't wait for the next round of bug fixes and a larger playing environment.

I hope they don't issue us all with a million credits, as they did in the final part of the Alpha (which I wasn't part of) as that would spoil my enjoyment of trying to make my own way in the world of Elite.

Keep up the good work FD, I for one think you are doing a great job, despite the niggles which are to be expected.

Yes, I had a nice potter round last night as well. Realised that I am a lousy trader and Bozo the clown could super cruise better than I. The only regular game issue that I have is 'the wobbles' coming out of cruise but if I wait long enough it sorts out without a ctd, I am sure a fix will be on its way.

All in all loving it.

What a weekend... I wasn't in Elite for more than a few hours, but it was bliss.

The a few stutter problems when coming out of a jump, but within moments I dropped in to real space.

Was doing well trading, managed to buy a second weapon and even managing a few kills. And then I lost it all by making a silly mistake...

I was showing the wife the approach to a station and how to land (I'd been practising and thought I'd got it cracked). I requested docking permission, got the OK so flew in to the station and then to the landing pad, slowed down above the pad, adjusted position and then pressed the 'Deploy Landing Gear' button... And pressed the 'Boost' button by accident.

Result: Wife laughing and me having to go back to the starting ship with 142 credits. Oh well :)

Talking of stations, did anyone else think Bladerunner when docked in a space station? The background noise and the announcements instantly placed me there!

Greetings, Cmdr Waterhouse,

That's a familiar surname... Cmdr Enoch Root sends his regards. :)

Many UK ISPs are notorious for providing lower bandwidth across the board during "peak" hours. I suspect that the improved performance is due to this as well as to the lower number of players.

I hadn't noticed this but, with hindsight, I think you're right. "A new life awaits YOU in the off-world colonies." The holographic advertising "boards" help with this impression too.
