How is "Savegame" handled?

Hello there,

my name is FrickenBubba and I am very glad I finally joined this incredible adventure. I think I´ll express my hopes and fears concerning "Elite Dangerous" later, when I had the chance to dig deeper into this wonderful game.
But: I am (!really!) dreaming of a thing I wanted for a long time. My very own commander´s chair, with a triple screen setup, joystick to my right hand, throttle to the left and a keyboard between my knees. I am willing to dump my homecinema installation (beamer and stuff) for this :)

My question:
I don´t get the "save game" thing right. Is it really a local file on my hard drive? I understand that the final "E:D" will offer both offline- and online-modes, so an "offline save game" would make sense. But: isn´t that the open door for hackers which would have a million credits two hours after we all started equally into the game? Wouldn´t we get blown out of space no matter what?

So: how is what "I am" and what "I achieved/own" persisted?

Btw: sorry for my poor english, I am from germany. And: I tried the forum search, but did not seem to fight the right thread.

Thank you very much,
FrickenBubba

Welcome to the forum and you're English is fine.

Not sure where the save is stored, but someone will I'm sure.

Have fun, :D

It's stored on the server.

Michael
Thanks Michael.

If this is the case, is it by design that the game only saves 'instance' states right now, or currently a placeholder of sorts? For example, player money, status and position upon entering a new shard of an area as opposed to absolute status.

This is highly exploitable (right now) and I for one was personally expecting a more mmo persistence to save game states.

No, it is WIP, more aspects will be server moderated as we progress.

Welcome Commander! Have you joined Prem Beta?

Hello there, too!
Yes, I have decided to find the 120,- Euros needed. I couldn´t stand watching all these youtube-videos anymore. I wanted to see myself :)

I only had a three-hour-block of playtime so far after a very short install-session. But as soon as I saw myself holding a blank piece of paper and writing down some product prices, I kind of timejumped and felt like sitting right in front of my old ATARI ST where I enjoyed Elite for the very first time in my life.

That were the times, right...? :)

In fact, my memory was wrong. The ATARI ST-version of "Elite" was NOT the first one I played. After having to think about that yesterday evening I remembered that it was my SCHNEIDER CPC 464 where I had my first introduction to the game. In general I went ATARI 600 XL, SCHNEIDER CPC 464, ATARI 1040 ST and then PCs, the first one being some 286AT, followed by a 386-33-DX-something. :)

But that aside:
I am really, really looking forward to this new PC Version of ELITE. I like the way David Braben and his team work on it and how they produce themselves to the outside world. Dedicated, somehow "silent" and focussed.
Unfortunately there has started that ugly thing that always happens inside discussion boards when the development opens or gets more interesting for "the public". Meaning rage posts, rants and stuff and people I really, really wouldn´t like to PLAY A GAME with.

I really hope that ELITE DANGEROUS succeeds in becoming a cleverly thought-through game for a player base that in my opinion wasn´t adressed in years and that has understood that sometimes the "rewarding aspect of achieving something" lies in the process of doing so.

Same experience for me last night, watched so many vids and sucked in so bad! Hooked, got my flight and docking down, still trying to figure a lot of things out, just working on perfecting the basics of my gameplay...
