Frontier's Secret British Discount

Elite Dangerous is $29.99 USD and is £19.99 GBP

£19.99 GBP when converted comes out to $26.20 USD Last time I checked, 26.20 < 29.99

Is there some sort of deep resentment towards Americans? Or should us dumb yanks just remember to purchase in Paypal using GBP so we get the secret discount too?

This seems to be the case with all items in the Frontier Store.

We've just had our pound devalued after brexit, the exchange rate has changed. The website hasn't. Or something like that. I'm guessing.

It's easy to get around. Just use a credit card to pay in pounds instead of dollars. You'll pay a small fee, maybe 5 bucks or so, but you'll get your game at the same price as the British.

If this doesn't seem economically viable, remember to order in bulk. The key is volume. ;)

Is the actual answer. The Pound to Dollar rate this time last year was around 1.53, now it's around 1.31. It's not uncommon at all, I've played games before where the Pound to Dollar or Pound to Euro rates have meant that one currency has effectively been disadvantaged due to unequal pricing but it reflects the economic reality.

Having said that, if OP feels it's significant he can let me know and I'll mail him three bucks.

Funny thing is I bet he's thinking 'three bucks, that's nearly a gallon of gas...' :D

It's obviously an import tariff. Big American developers are trying to fight the forces of globalization by lobbying their lackey congressmen.

You had your chance to get it cheaper, but no, you had to throw all that tea into the harbour....

Ah, but look who carries the big stick now.:)

You should try buying it in rubles it's even cheaper.

Fixed prices when there is a daily variable exchange rates of currencies causes differences in those fixed prices when compared to said daily variable exchange rates of currencies.

Well never thought that would happen

That is pretty much exactly what I was thinking. :)

Good to know everyone messes with currencies to get the best price though.

When I bought the LTP I paid in my native currency the euro, but I believe cmdrs who bought in rubles got it a fair bit cheaper.

Yeah, they were the same when the prices were set. The pound's value has dropped recently, so paying in pounds is temporarily cheaper until they either adjust it or the pound's value goes up again. It's also not exclusive to Brits, as long as your bank offers currency exchanges for free or cheap enough...

lol, this has been a thing for ages. I deliberately set the pricing to pound sterling rather than USD to take advantage of it when Horizons released.

Oh get on yer bike. The rest of the world has to pay more than the US for just about all software and electronics. Ascribing an obvious shift in currency values (Brexit) to 'resentment' is childish.

Average petrol price in the UK right now is £1 per litre.

4.54 litres in a gallon, so a gallon is about about £4.54

Pound to Dollar rate is currently 1.31

Therefore in the UK a gallon of petrol (sorry I can only call it gas once a day :p) is $5.94

I only bought Elite once. I fill my car up all the time. :(
