Frontier's Secret British Discount

I think the price may also be related to processing fees. Blame the banks for that one. As for the price of gas, the US is slightly larger than the UK and have a couple more cars. Perhaps we get our gas at bulk rate prices here in the states.

I'm pretty sure us Yanks also got our XBones a whole lot cheaper than you Brexit folks. So us paying a bit more for the game and extras is just leveling out the trade differences. My wife likes Bubble and Squeak too, but it's regular ham and eggs for me.

Average petrol price in the UK right now is £1 per litre.

4.54 litres in a gallon, so a gallon is about about £4.54

Pound to Dollar rate is currently 1.31

Therefore in the UK a gallon of petrol (sorry I can only call it gas once a day :p) is $5.94

I only bought Elite once. I fill my car up all the time. :(

In the U.S. a gallon is 3.875 liters. So the cost is actually $3.88 per gallon if you want to compare to U.S. prices. I filled up my car the other day with 93 octane (comparable to the 98 used in the UK) for about $2.79. So about $1.09 per gallon price difference. Most of it is due to taxes and such.

just realized I forgot to convert the British pound to USD.
I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader.
Anyway, you get the point... US Gallons are different from British gallons and taxes suck

The exchange rates have varied since the prices were set. PReviously, it was cheaper to buy the game in $US, but people seem to prefer stable pricing as apposed to variable pricing.

Nothing stopping you from using GBP...

Z...

It's actually because we produce more oil and gas then any other country. But who's counting
I dunno; I can be pretty gassy after a pot of lamb+cabbage stew....
(edit: forgive my lack of seriousness, but this thread is sliding off the deep end) :D

Elite Dangerous is $29.99 USD and is £19.99 GBP

£19.99 GBP when converted comes out to $26.20 USD Last time I checked, 26.20 < 29.99

Is there some sort of deep resentment towards Americans? Or should us dumb yanks just remember to purchase in Paypal using GBP so we get the secret discount too?

This seems to be the case with all items in the Frontier Store.

Yeah mate - it's a conspiracy and all British secretly hate yanks

(Or maybe the site isn't index linked - raise a ticket to FD support rather than spout nonsense on their website ?)

Tax aside, items are usually priced cheaper in their country of origin. This is because currency rates are more volatile than is acceptable for consumer prices, so a mark-up has to be included to "soak-up" any reasonable fluctuation in the exchange rate before new consumer prices can be set.

Add to this that consumer prices like to be rounded to traditional "price points" (9.99 etc?!), the $26.20 rounding to $29.99 is not surprising. In fact the 14% increase relative to current exchange rate is quite small when you consider the UK Pound recently dropped by 10% following our vote for economic suicide ("eiy, but that'll teach'em eh?").

You are quibbling over a matter of 3 or 4 dollars? Really? :O

Whenever I see an argument about a perceived commercial advantage of the UK over the US, it always reminds me of this classic rant from "Mr. X" on the Star Trek newsgroups back in the mid 90s. It was 20 years ago and I still recall it clearly as one of the first times I saw someone "go off on one" with a full explosion of incoherence and exclamation marks in a public forum over something so relatively minor. The OP is nothing compared to this.
