Tired of Large ships

The Replicated Man

T
Hey Guys. Just wanted to say that I've been playing the game for 4 months or so and have gone from a Sidey to a conda. And it doesn't matter what ship I'm in I usually end up dying to a heavily modded Fer-De-Lance or Python. I love the firepower of these ships but they are big clunky bricks (without class 5 dirty drives). I'm going back to the small ships and working on em. Class 5 full engineer mods on a sidey anyone? What ships do you guys prefer? Large? Small? What style of fighting do you use? Stealth? Maximum shields? Crazy firepower for the win? Flight assist off at all times? Cheers guys!

I have a G5 DD Python, but I'm working on a G5 iCourier for a change of pace.

It's hard to give up the firepower and versatility of the bigger ships though.

To be fair, I also have an Anaconda. I tried it once in combat and said to myself "yup, this will be purely an exploration vessel".

Cheers!

i'm very much a small ship pilot. i fly my cutter for trading, and my conda for exploration above 15k ly.

small ships will also bring more interesting npc spawns.

for combat i mainly fly a DBS, engineered shield, military armour lightweight, engineered HRP, small beam, high capacity missile rack, medium pulse and medium mc. bit of a "best of all worlds"-set up.

alternatively i have a highspeed courier, and a HRP cobra mkiii.

but my main ship is a fairly engineered DBE, large multicannon ftw, dirty drive tuning L5 - as nimble now as an unengineered dbs :)

You could always try the Imperial Clipper if your willing to work for it. Its fast, large, and can turn pretty good but its only flaw is its shield strength and hardpoints being spaced far apart.

Whenever I don't need my Python or Asp, I'm flying around in a old, rusty Cobra Mk3.
Most iconic ship IMO, can't go wrong with it's small scale versatility.

Small ships are heaps more fun. I keep an anaconda for long range travel, but apart from that it's iCourier and iEagle madness.

For everyone suggesting drive upgrades, is it the dirty drive or the clean drive? Is one better than the other for small fighters?

I'm a big fan of medium ships myself. I have a Python (best ship for mission running, period!), Federal Gunship, Keelback, Asp Explorer ... if it can land at Outposts, it makes me happy. The only large ships I want are two passenger ships, the Orca and Beluga. I want to create a space-cruise company ;)

As for Dirty vs Clean ... Dirty for slow sluggish ships. Clean for fast agile ships. Dirty drives can really heat you up on high G turns. On slower turning ships like the Python, you don't feel it. Put Dirty on something like an Imperial Courier or Vulture and boost turns will turn you into a fireball.

Python, works for everything, FDL is only a fighter ship

Wait... is this post real?

Instead of coming down here whining about how you lost your large ship demanding x or y or z to be removed or nerfed, you actually think of downsizing and working to gain skill not only that asking for tips and tactics?

Mad props to you.

Mine's a dirty, dirty girl.

Edit for more info:

Dirty gives more power, but more heat. The moment I fire a missile rack on my FDL, I start to cook it. The colder-running clean drives produce less power, but less heat. Less heat is nice, not only for combat but also for 'quality of life' general flying.

I'd go dirty for combat ships and clean on explorers, taxis and things which are already running hot.

Can't beat a Cobra MkIII for versatility. When I start working the Engineers, that's the ship I'll mod for combat.
