Even in this rather rough and ready illustration I popped together from an image on Kerrash's twitter feed you can see it roughly Thargoid shaped, at least on top. I know there is more under there. But this is rather depressingly convincing for me. I say depressingly as this is pretty much what I was hopping we would not get.

That would be a rather small Thargoid, wouldn't it? ;)

Its not that small

is it just me ?

looking at the video and pics ...smooth surface
looking outside .......canyons after canyons , as if the wreckage is scatterd on a glacier ?

I'm sure some of you have considered that there are in fact two wrecks at this site. The "Thargoid" octagon has some distinctly different features than the "wing" sections. What if this follows the lore that there are two races; the Thargoids and the Orreresians, which are genetically similar to each other (much like Vulcans and Romulans), but often at odds with each other. Maybe we are witnessing the aftermath of an encounter? That would explain the differences seen between the artefacts/probes and the barnacles, and how the meta alloys seem to counter-act the effects of the UA/UP.

My take on the 'is it Thargoid or not' question depends a lot on some metagaming. Or more like meta-game designing.

In my mind, as far as I understand the design philosophy behind ED and its lore, there's simply no way they'll be using 8 fold rotational symmetry on anything else than the Thargoids. The consistency in design simply doesn't allow for that.

Just like they followed the original ship designs for the iconic snake-ships, they will definitely follow the octagonal design for the Thargoids, which is just as much iconic. Hence, no 8 fold rotational symmetry for other species, ergo this thing is either directly Thargoid, or based on some design someone learned from Thargoids.

I could of course be wrong but in this, I don't think I am.

Ive been up close and its not Octagonal its round. There arn't edges.

It does have smaller eyes around the main eye.

I believe its Thargoid/Human related or at least a Carbon/ammonia life form.

A guardian of the barnacles or Meta Alloys

Ah.. right.. 45mins around an AW, finally getting the anomaly threat 2 to spawn, celebrating by not paying attention and hitting the fsd a second too early. Good times. I think i need a beer.

The arms/appendiges are attached to the central core. There are several other appendages scatterer around.

I think it may have 8 legs there are 2 large central legs the others appear to be smaller or they could be fragments from the larger legs.

This entire "thing" looks like a living creature. Not like a ship, or unmanned craft, but just like an space travel capable living creature. Similar to Tyranids in WH40k.

It's not 'octagonal' in the sense that it's got a more organic design this time with the new graphical possibilities but they got around not having defined edges by using an 8 fold rotational symmetry around the central axis.

Also, around the central circle which sort of looks like the underside of a mushroom, there is a definite octagon.

Additional info: I'm pretty sure there are four 'claws' or 'blades'. One is wedged into the ground right next to another lying on its side. One is pretty far away from the others. These 'claws' as I like to call them are all in one piece, other than the fact that they got ripped apart from somewhere. I believe these to be the 'landing gear' or more like 'latching onto stuff' gear.

The wing shaped parts definitely have some kind of airfoil design to them, suggesting they may aid the craft in atmospheric flight. I couldn't have a definitive count on these parts as they seem to be broken in different pieces but it seems like there are also four of these wing shapes.

The overall craft may very well look like an octagonal central body surrounded by four wings and four claws alternating.

We'll have to wait and see unfortunately. Mid October can't come soon enough!

Well I believe its certainly got Thargoid connections but we wont be seeing these things flying around space.

I want to know what tonked it.
