supplies

Ok, so i'm out here doing something that I don't want to do because it is very boring and barely pays off compared to every other activity in the game. Mining looking to engineers stuff.

I am watching a NPC mine this asteroid next to me and get the same stuff I need out of it. But nothing is coming out for me at all, no matter how long I shoot it or at what spot. The same rock they are shooting. And yes it's one of the redish brown ones and can be mined as I mined some out of it before I realized I forgot a refinery.

What am I doing wrong =/ or does mining just suck?

Are you using mining lasers?

Get a prospector limpet controller, set it to a fire group and shoot a roid. Target the limpet and it will tell you what the roid is made of and how much is left. Once a roid is depleted, shooting it again won't help.

Sounds like it might be a bug. If you "mined some stuff out of it before", especially without using a prospector, you might have depleted it quite quickly. If you can confirm this, and the NPC isn't respecting the asteroid's depleted status, I'd ticket it.

It now occurs to me to question whether asteroids ever deplete for NPCs, or if they sit there all day pulling ore out of the same rock? It's not something that's occurred to me before, but I've only recently started mining in earnest and I always try to do it away from NPCs so I don't often get to see NPC miners at work.

Just a small how-to-do in the hope that it help you:

-get prospector limpets and shoot them on the rocks before firing your mining laser. Without them you only get random stuff and only a handful of it!

-collector limpets are your friends :)

-class 4 refinerie with her 10 slots give you some space, you don't have to delete her much
