The rumour was right...mines are brilliant!

I had a good play around with mines and overall came to the conclusion that they were fun but just a distraction from waking out. I run no weapons on trade ships as the AI can simply be ignored. Not to say I have never lost a trade ship to a particularly nasty interdiction or two it's just less of a monetary hindrance than wasting time trying to kill interdictors. Also If you want to run more mines on a Conda without them bouncing off your windscreen tap down thrust as you release....obvious solution is obvious.

When NPC pirates drop in to get their hands on my big haul of tasty fruit and vegetables (all 6 tonnes of it - for charity no less), i'm so very grateful to have 6 hardpoints worth of mine launchers with which to 'scratch their paint'. They soon go down in a hail (collective noun needed) of carefully placed, ahem no, hurriedly ejected projectiles which prove an impenetrable barrier for any ship of ill-intent.

Read about it a few times on the boards, but couldn't believe how great these were. When you get hassled continuously for carrying the most innocuous of household supplies it's just great to be able to dispatch them without lengthy engagements. Now I run these missions and often have a nice little bonus at the end of them.

Seriously and Please FD - don't touch this mechanic - it makes mission hauling and trading somewhat sane again!

After reading this thread I fitted my Anaconda with a couple of class-2 mine layers and must say, popping NPC ships has never been more fun! I submit to the interdiction, line the NPC pilot up directly behind and level with my own ship and start dooking out mines. The NPC pilots fly straight into them. Their shields drop, I can turn back and after a couple almost lazy laser & multi-cannon salvos their hulls go "Pop!".
Advice: Don't run too fast or boost too much while "running" or once they take damage they slow down and drop off the scanner depriving you of that sweet bounty credit.

I no longer worry about NPC interdictions.

i had 3 on my conda and have now 3 on my cobra mk4.

roughly same speed and damage output for 2 very different ships. killed an elite gunship with the cobra.

this is the perfect ship balance. in terms of npc-interdictments (is that a word?) every ship is equally strong.

hi
i too am a recent "miner" on my T9 currently have 2 racks on my medium hardpoints, what other points are good for mining? thanks.

I have same question. Recently outfitted my T9 for mining but am concerned about inevitable interdiction by the dangerous/elite Anaconda. My cutter with 4 class 2 mines can take out an Anaconda. Any thoughts on a defensive mining T9? I currently have 2 class 2 mining lasers but limpets can't keep up (3 class 3A). Maybe 2 small mining lasers and 3 class 2 mines? Thnx!

Mines or Shock Mines?

The people need to know!!
I run 4 class 2 regular non-engineered mines on medium hardpoints of my trade cutter (A grade FSD, D grade everything else, 720 cargo). I used to run from Anacondas but recently figured I had the speed to jump if I needed. To my surprise I've taken out the last two Anacondas with no damage to myself just using the mines. Conversely I ran my T9 miner with no mines, submitted to the interdiction, and an Anaconda had me to 79% before I could high wake, boosting and not wasting any time. So, I was wondering if I could get enough mines on my T9 to help. Cheers!

I'm not talking engineering - I mean the different types of Mine Launcher available in Outfitting.

Well, I've just fitted 6 mine launchers and 1 torp launcher in the size 4 slot.

If they follow they get a surprise, if they try to run after a few mines - I turn around and they get another surprise. :)
