FD: Please code the Thargoids to grief the griefers

Full disclosure: been playing since premium beta, and have only ever been attacked for no reason once or twice. But others have clearly had a different experience. So this is for them...

FD: In all likelihood, you know of the most prolific griefers. I'm not talking about pirates who demand cargo. Or players who take down players of the opposing faction in CZs. I'm talking about players who gang up on folks outgunned or outskilled, and blow them to bits for no good reason, and do so all the time. And if you don't know them all, you could surely create code to identify them.

So here's: the idea. Have the Thargoids attack them relentlessly. They need to be blown to bits constantly. Nowhere will be safe. Sure, we all want to experience the Thargoids, but tweak the code so that these players are attacked perpetually, or at least until they stop attacking others unprovoked or without demanding cargo as a pirate. Their tears will be absolutely delicious. And they'll never know. And the game will be better for it. Thanks in advance!

:)

I don't thing FD is going to actually code in a griefing mechanic, which is basically what you're asking for.

Would be much better if they would just implement a sensible crime and punishment system already.

I'm not seeking anything reasonable. I'd like to have fun at the griefers' expense. You know, grief them with no consequences. It'll be glorious! Just got an email from the top brass at FD confirming this as now being top of their development roadmap. Promise!

Funniest part of this is that the so-called griefers, aka, "open players" are generally far better equipped and skilled than the average commander and will likely make short work of any alien ships sent against them.

Whoa there - not all open players are griefers. As for the Thargoids: they'll be indestructible for a while. Of that you can be sure. And griefers aren't skilled: they typically hunt in packs (safety in numbers) and rely on their ships/weapons more than skill. That's why they love taking out low rank traders, and you rarely hear of conflicts involving a similar number of pilots in similar ships and of similar rank/experience. Skill doesn't come into play the vast majority of the time. If they wanted skill-based fights they'd be in Arena/CQC not Open.

Indestructible seems like such plot armor. I really hope that isn't the case. Gameplay with no counterplay is bad in my opinion.

They might code a retaliation mechanic though - a troll faction that griefs aliens might find itself hunted down like dogs. It would be rational of aliens to behave this way.

More likely that aliens will be broadcasting things like "So the rumours are true...modular terminals do exist" and attacking indiscriminately though.

That's essentially what happened in the original Elite. I suspect their ships will feature superior defensive and offensive capabilities, which means that the vast majority of CMDRs would lose a fight 1:1. That makes Thargoids fearsome - with the best bet being a quick exit. I suspect that to win against Thargoids, CMDRs will need to team up and/or be very highly skilled and be flying heavily modified ships. That'd be totally cool with me. Would be fun hunting Thargoids in packs and knowing there'd be a high chance you wouldn't make it back in once piece.

Even if they do that, I doubt it would last for more than 5 minutes. Right now they have a balance of "The AI is too easy" versus "The AI is too hard!" feedback. Making the aliens indestructible would be bad for business if carried out for any length of time.

I said to a mate the other night - if any aliens in this game even came close to mimicking the Thargoids in the original game, judging by the amount of outcry on here following the original 2.1 npcs the thread crying for them to be nerfed would hit 1,000 pages inside the first hour after release.

Fine by me. :)

I just hope aliens display more intelligent behaviour than human NPCs.

We're actually going to make an unholy pact with the Thargoids and blow up any CMDRs that show up to interact with them. Immersion.

Cool, so basically punish people exactly the way you don't like them acting in the first place? With some sort of "griefing" mechanic. Yes, yes I can see this has a huge amount of logic, and zero emotion attached. Absolutely.

Bonus points for using "I don't want to sound like a jerk.. but-" as the opening salvo. And I am sure people who are entirely innocent should be ignored by said Thargoid and his many legged friends, then? Of course. What was I thinking.

lol. thanks for the chuckle, OP. ;)

You know it's coming, right? Actual threat in game is akin to those really nasty paper cuts I mean who wants that? Don't be silly. Our many legged foe will be about as scary as it is having a breakfast in the morning.

There is the rub though isn't it. Those of us in max engineered would loooooooove an actual challenge. But the reality is that the aliens are going to be laughable because so many people can't be bothered to learn how to defend themselves.

Sounds like favoritism to me.
I wouldnt mind seeing a Ghost Ship mechanic. For example, you drop out of supercruise to attack a cargo ship and while you are stealing his cargo a ghost ship appears. The ghost ship would be a different color, heavily modified, always elite, and fly unlike anything else in the game. The chance of seeing a ghost ship would be very low... maybe 1%. But Imagine the surprise of the unsuspecting trader that is rescued by the ghost ship and the pirate that is chased away.

I hope that the cheezy builds that currently devistate CMDRs will have little effect on the Thargoids. Their technology is better than ours, so it is only brute force that should be able to hurt them not tricks like thermal cascade.

Dear Frontier:

Please make the Thargoids actually challenging, and not 1v1 mode. I want to need 4 people winged up to take 1 ship down, none of this turret wielding shield boosting afking while watching netflix difficulty that's in the game currently.
