This was brought up over 6 months ago, im sure if fdev care or not but I assume a cease & dessist or lawsuit is in progress if they do care. Generally IP lawyers are fairly eager if the Bethesda vs Majong case is anything to go by... either that or this is an older image.
His website says they were established in 1989. I assume the Elite logo was still trademarked, but it might not have been enforced. Once something like that happens and goes on for decades, it becomes difficult to retroactively enforce a trademark. There would be lots of lawyer money involved and since FD aren't into towing, there's no competition to oppose. Still, they can send a cease and desist letter and see what happens. That's a cheap way to test the waters anyway.
Failing that, why not get FDev to 'set up' a "Mikes' Elite Towing" company within the game, transporting ships from one location to another. This 'company' could be a continuation of the real company, with an "Est. 1989" segment to the logo. Done amicably, the real company might get some trade from it (from Players in the game who live in Florida), while they might say something like "We also transport space ships", and then go on to explain the link to the game (which might then get a few more Players into the Galaxy).

It's not like the Logo causes brand name confusion - they are not competing companies and the nature of the products are worlds apart - i.e. towing vs. a video game.
The only thing I see it as is a benefit to Elite as in someone may ask about the logo and he says where he got it from. No business harm in this case, hope they leave it be.

THIS is how the world SHOULD work !
He can easily argue that no will confuse a local car towing company in Florida with a famous Video Game developer in the UK.
If anything he is probably a fan of the Elite games and just didn't realize the legality of what he did when he named his company and used that symbol

It would certainly be a nicer place if things could be done this way. Done amicably nobody would get hurt (as they are not in competition), it might make people chuckle, and it might help trade for both companies.

This guy probably googled "elite" and found the logo nice looking enough to use. About adding it to the game, I sincerely doubt FD would add anything that encouraged copyright infringement into ED.
