So how do I fly the FGS

Well I'd like to atleast keep a somewhat open mind to ''It's not the ship, it's me.'' even though I do very much enjoy the Federal Dropship and do alright in it.

Teach me how to fly the FGS maybe even give me a loadout and think of me like I've never flown anything less agile than a Python. Oh and prefferably something good for PvP, I won't be doing much else in it apart from assasination missions.

You fit...

a large multicanon,
a medium multicanon,
a medium multicanon,
a medium multicanon,
a medium multicanon,
a small multicanon,
a small multicanon.

That's it. Feel free to mod them with incendiary rounds if you want. I definitely recommend a dirty or clean drive upgrade. I have rank 3 clean drives on mine, its ok. Looking forward to getting rank 5 dirty though. It can handle the extra heat i think.

How fly it? Point at target. Hold down trigger. Target goes boom. If you need to shoot it more, then you really have to utilize FA-Off. Also, it has good yaw, take advantage of that. And it makes a decent strafer. Don't try and get into a turning fight though with more agile ships. Use reverse thrust to stand off. All else fails, remember its got a damn sold hull. Ramming speed!

I really don't like going all one thing especialy multicannons since it's very vulnerable to chaff. I'll give it a try but I don't think I'll enjoy flying the ship much. Maybe I'll put on a Railgun or two.

Go with fixed multicanons then.

One thing i found is that it has very good heat management, so you can fire 5 plasmas without melting. The med side and med under have great convergence so i run Lmm and mm in two fire groups.

Can also do the same with rails and stay at range if you've got the accuracy.

Not tried it post 2.1 though.

Didn't know it had good heat managment. Good to know.

I know coming from the FAS i was pleasently suprised that plasmas could be fired. That said it may just be 'comparitively good' but i recall being able to fire that plasma build without having to spam heatsinks.
I used to run a plasma loadout on my FAS. Took some fire discipline to keep the heat low, but it was very effective.

Regarding the FGS, my experience is whatever its configuration, its best flown in tandem with something else. Its way better at fire support than a superiority fighter.

It can definitely be quite a good missile boat if you're winged up with someone who can pop shields for you. :D
